Sergeant's voice is the same as Sugar Bear on the old Sugar Crisps cereal commercials from the '60s. "Can't get enough of those Sugar Crisps, Sugar Crisps..." Vintage 1960's Post Super Sugar Crisp Sugar Bear Commercial
Close enough. Gerry Matthews was "Sugar Bear" in the Post "Sugar Crisp" cereal commercials [and "LINUS THE LIONHEARTED"]. Sandy Becker was "Sergeant Okay Homa" in this series {in fact, in the first episode, he sounded too much like John Wayne; his lawyers sent a "cease and desist" letter to TTV/Leonardo, and his voice was "modified"}. Besides, the "Gophers" were originally part of "THE UNDERDOG SHOW"---which was primarily sponsored by General Mills, Post's cereal rival.
Originally seen on "THE UNDERDOG SHOW" in 1966. Kenny Delmar is "Colonel Kit Coyote"; George S. Irving is "Ruffled Feather"; Sandy Becker is "Sgt. Okey Homa" and "Running Board".
They sure did! The Go Go Gophers did have their own Saturday Morning series...but it didn't last too long! It was on CBS, and locally here in Chicago on WBBM-TV Saturday Mornings, it was on @6:30AM. Also, there were two other opening themes for the "Go Go Gophers... Watch Em' Go, Go, Go! It would be great if they included those too in the set...at least it is in the Underdog Set, after the way Classic Media failed to include the Original Openings (except for 1 cartoon) for the "Harveytoons" Set!
I guess they were a part of "Underdog" show, but, I do remember "The Go Go Gophers" having their own show on Saturday mornings. Anybody else remember this?
Thought so. All radio stations west of the Mississippi begin with K while all radio stations east of the Mississippi begin with W. Except for KDKA in Pittsburgh, the very first radio in the U.S. which is historically significant for covering the Harding-Cox presidential election of 1920.
@clintonearlwalker I knew it was hard to find, but I didn't know UA-cam removes it for being racist. Hopefully, they don't take down this video. I have some other rare shorts and openings from Jay Ward and Total Television that I have yet to see anywhere else. I plan on uploading those in the future as well.
It's an independent station from the bay area. It used to be a WB affiliate until it merged with the CW. The station aired these classic cartoons a couple years ago, and I recorded them when I had the chance.
@bullwinklecanada Thanx for that, I used to watch the gophers every Saturday morning as part of the Underdog show. Apparently, some Native Americans (Indians) complained and it's been very hard to find that intro anywhere. I could only find the audio on the entire internet without the video. Be careful about copyright and UA-cam guidelines, it's a pain in the ass to get banned. I was banned from another site after I spent about $300 playing their computer game.
0:54-0:58-I don't mean to be a wiseguy or a know-it-all, but I learned in English that in military terms that the title of a man who is Colonel is a never abbreviated when only his last name is shown on a sign or a written in a book. Colonel Kit Coyote's sign on the entrance of his office is simply written Col. Coyote, that's inaccurate. But who cares it's a cartoon.
This is amazing example of free speech we had 40 years ago. Basically an anit-war narrative played with historical factions. I watched this when I was a todd 40 years ago and thank goodness as it showed me the folly of acting superior.
Most people don't know this but the sergeant's name was Oakie Hama. But his name was never mentioned in the cartoons. Perhaps it sounded too strange to be mentioned; the name made the sergeant sound Japanese rather than English.
I know it is a bit racist, but hay the Indians win all of the time, for me, being an American Indian growing during that time if felt kind of good to know that in cartoon form we were the smart ones and the ones that could win against the white people, if only to show we are all just people.
Thanx for this!! I guess you know the intro is "racist", it's been removed from UA-cam several times and is very hard to find anywhere. I just watched it about 6 times :)
Help. There was a cartoon segment on The Rocky Bullwinkle show that was about a scientist character who drew things (pictures) on a chalkboard and then they came to life. Anyone know/remember title? Thanks
Considering the win-loss record in these shorts is tilted entirely in the Indians' favour, I find it difficult to see how the Indians are being made to look bad...
@bullwinklecanada DubbaDubbaDubbaDubbaDubbaDa!, What em say? What em say? Him say those with racists attitudes for this heapum cartoon needs to take LONG walk on short pier.
Even after all this time the Go Go Gophers still has me howling with laughter, Great stuff.
Man i miss those carefree days when i was a kid.Best times of my life.

This was always one of my FAVORITES of Underdog!😆

Aired in early ‘65.

1968-69?
IMO these cartoons have awesome background music, particularly the cue used during battle scenes.
Col. Kit Coyote sounds just like Theodore Roosevelt with his "Bully" and his "CHAAAARGE!"

how were you able to upload them on you tube?

If anything, I loved the music that was in these cartoons, and it took some clever writers to come up with the lyrics for them! :)
The Go Go Gophers kicked rump roast!
Love this stuff! Takes me back to better days :-)

I believe that this was the very last GO GO GOPHERS episode.
I believe this was the very last GO GO GOPHERS cartoon.
That was during the 1968-69 season.
Instead of "the Unsinkable Ironclad," he could've tried naming it the "sugar" or the "alcohol"--because those sunk a lot of reservation Indians later.
I pretty much already have.
"Gopher Indians" made compete sense 10-year old me.
ha ha good old times
What bay area, in Califonia or New York City? They should've kept airing those cartoons.
This is amazing example of free speech we had 40 years ago. Basically an anit-war narrative played with historical factions. I watched this when I was a todd 40 years ago and thank goodness as it showed me the folly of acting superior.
Now that’s comedy!
Friggin hilarious > 1:48 > 4:43

So damn funny! Liberals would be up in arms over this cartoon now a days!
I know it is a bit racist, but hay the Indians win all of the time, for me, being an American Indian growing during that time if felt kind of good to know that in cartoon form we were the smart ones and the ones that could win against the white people, if only to show we are all just people.
When I saw it years ago, my mother did wonder what real Indians thought of this cartoon.
Thanx for this!! I guess you know the intro is "racist", it's been removed from UA-cam several times and is very hard to find anywhere. I just watched it about 6 times :)
Verygood.nice.
4:57-5:00 how about the unsinkable Titanic?
What him say????
A shame that politicaly correct police would sap the fun out of anything like this today. So long free speech and creativity.
* Yet since the characters were animals they could get away with otherwise ethnic stereotyping. ☺
California.
I wonder who the voice actor for the sergeant was?
Sandy Becker.
yay old skool !!!! !!0. Too bad for the INFANTILE. WILL they ever know what is truly important
Help. There was a cartoon segment on The Rocky Bullwinkle show that was about a scientist character who drew things (pictures) on a chalkboard and then they came to life. Anyone know/remember title? Thanks
1:05-1:14 GO GO GOPHERS is a hell of alot better than HOUSE OF PAYNE. The latter should be banned from tv.
Actually this could never air on tv today not too PC
That's a good thing
Considering the win-loss record in these shorts is tilted entirely in the Indians' favour, I find it difficult to see how the Indians are being made to look bad...
Very absurdly politically incorrect, but it's really funny! because it just IS!
What's KOFY?
KOFY TV 20 San Francisco
when did they stop airing this cartoon?
Racist? I don't really think so. Given what we have come to see as racist this is actually pretty mild stuff.
@bullwinklecanada DubbaDubbaDubbaDubbaDubbaDa!, What em say? What em say? Him say those with racists attitudes for this heapum cartoon needs to take LONG walk on short pier.
I mean banned from You Tube.
This was one of my least favorite cartoons
i remeber this every saturday morning next to the last cartoon than the news
