I remember when this was part of the Saturday morning cartoon lineup (together with George of the Jungle and Tom Slick). 1967. There were SO many good cartoons back then!
I remember this from watching old "George of the Jungle" reruns as a kid. That theme song will always be stuck in my head. "Just caaaaaalll for Super Chicken."
Really, I bought George of the Jungle on dvd a lot time ago, as a memory, and I've never watched the set. It will be nice if I ever decide to watch the series because hopefully Super Chicken is included but in good quality.

I thought my two gransons 2 & 5 would get a kick out of listing and watching the super chicken theme & song ,,they got a real kick out of it .I watched it MANY MANY years ago Super Chicken will always be COOL. tommy g So,Cal, USA
I love Super Chicken! I grew up watching Super Chicken, Ricochet Rabbit, George of the Jungle and so many more awesome cartoons! We had 4 tv stations, ABC, CBS, NBC and the one public access channel. Kids just don't know what good cartoons are! Bugs Bunny and the Road Runner were some good ones too. I sure miss the good old days, but then again it sure makes me feel old.........but only sometimes!
Cartoons like these (grew up watching Tom and Jerry, Rocky and Bullwinkle, The Inspector, Pink Panther) was why TV was awesome back then. The stuff they got going on some of the cartoon channels are pure junk (well, maybe one or two are good). Sad some of these are not on DVD, but kudos to the one that upload these for those of us to watch.
Not just Snagglepuss, but Yogi Bear, Quick-Draw McGraw, Huckleberry Hound, Elroy Jetson, and the original Cap'n Crunch, as well as dozens more. His name was Daws Butler.
WE NEED more....of these.. cartoons....this helps relieve the tension of the week. I use to love watching Super Chicken, Tom Slick, Dudley Do Right....George of the Jungle....Space Ghost and Johnny Quest. I almost forgot Mr. Magoo.
While I love the oldies, that is a gross generalization. Have you ever seen Avatar the Last Airbender (The cartoon not the movie) or it's sequel the Legend of Korra. Both are well written and have solid plots, great characters and even a decent message.
I remember that cry- I always wanted to put it on my Yak-Bak so I could have it, but it was always a tad too long for it, so I was always disappointed. Thank you for posting this- please post more!
I love when he drinks his Super Sauce and invariably says,"A little heavy on the lemon peel...AAAACK! " He says a variety of ingredients if you pay attention!
Henry only turns into super chicken after he drinks his super sauce which is served in a martini glass. He fumbles about trying to save the day until he finally drunk drives into the perp. 😬
out here in L.A., super chicken was shown on sunday mornings on tom hatten's (?) popeye show. i actually won a contest on that show. i got two tickets to the now non-existent Sea World here in southern calfornia.
When I was a kid I always thought the super sauce was actual sauce and I never understood why he drank it out of a martini glass. Now that I'm an adult I know the super sauce is booze.
In the episode "Briggs Bad Wolf", Fred is dressed as a lady, and he also asks Briggs, (quite emphatically in fact), "Will you take me through the Tunnel of Love?" Fred also giggles romantically. If that isn't gay... Besides, what's wrong with Fred being gay? I think he's adorable.
You know how cartoons are sprinkled with little adult-oriented jokes that kids don't get but adults do? I just today got one about Super Chicken! You know the "Super Sauce" and how it doesn't really seem to do anything? I just figured out what it is! It's not a "super" sauce at all -- it's just the sauce! Super Chicken knocks back a good, stiff drink before going out to fight crime! I think I remember my father howling in laughter at my dogged insistence that there was no humorous significance to the fact that the "Super Sauce" was usually shown being drunk from a martini glass!🍸😎😆
Super Chicken was clearly drinking a blue martini & I guess in this cartoon it just goes to show you that an alcoholic chicken makes a better super hero & a role model than some of the cartoons with sober characters on them. Lol XD
When I was growing up I could only get these on station out of Cleveland. The only problem: it was 100 miles away as the crow flies. The weather would have to be absolutely clear all the way for 100 miles in order to pick it up. I think I only ever got to see super chicken once or twice.
I loved this cartoon as a child---very clever. In fact, I named my pet Easter chicken after Henry--till I found out it vvas Henrietta. lol "Dear sir--or madam..." haha
When i was a kid in the mid eighties and this was in syndication on TV my stepfather would always sing the theme song to SuperChicken. I still don't know how he could remember all the lyrics LOL!
All I can ever think of when I hear this song is Rosario Fernandez an incredible Asturiana who would have me in hysterics singing this song. I in a misguided attempt to introduce two people I love introduced her to her soul mate my buddy Mike, and so it goes..... Oh almost forgot, I always did the chicken clucking.... clucking I said.
Carries around an oyster magnet. Just in case. Besides hat and mask, he’s not wearing anything but a cape, belt, and boots. Basically walking around flashing the whole neighborhood. I think Jay Ward and Bill Scott were hitting the super sauce. Not that I mind.
anyone here from homestar runner? very cozy asethetic reminds me of the various shows my dad would show me as a kid. i miss him a lot, he's in the age range to have grown up with this kinda thing, and liked similiar shows, like goerge of the jungle and rocky and bullwinkle. with its reference in the recent HSR episdoe I wonder if this was formative to the brothers chapps' sense of humor as kids, since a lot of it feels sort of proto-homestar runnery.
6:08 "The Oyster went to jail to serve every month with an "R" in it for 30 years." Warden: Alright, Oyster. It's May, so you're a free man for now. See you first thing September. I trust you won't take this obvious opportunity to escape for good.
Man, imagine how safe the world would be if there were a real life Super Chicken fighting evil and protecting us! Too bad we ran out of super sauce in the 1950s 😩
I remember when this was part of the Saturday morning cartoon lineup (together with George of the Jungle and Tom Slick). 1967. There were SO many good cartoons back then!
They don't make them like that anymore.
I was babysitting for two little girls who watched this every Saturday, along with the others. But this is the theme song I can still sing! 😂
Aahh, childhood memories of the re-runs on KTLA-TV Channel 5 back in circa 1981…
My former boss had me install the part of Super Chickens "cry in the sky" on every computer in his office. Priceless
Bakka bakka bakka bakka bakka bakka bakka bakka bakka bakka bakka bakka baaa!
Your boss is a man of class
That's one of the best cartoon intros ever.

I remember this was one of the features that was part of the "George of the jungle" cartoons on ABC Saturday mornings...along with "Tom slick"
You knew the job was dangerous when you took it, Fred.
This is when cartoons were good.. It entertained kids and did them no harm.. Now, everybody has a " message" for your kids and mine..
I was the first one at Peabody Elementary to learn the song , I was a big hit at morning recess.
When you find youself in danger,
When you're threatened by a stranger,
When it looks like you will take a lickin', (puk, puk, puk)
There is someone waiting,
Who will hurry up and rescue you,
Just Call for Super Chicken! (puk ack!)
Fred, if you're afraid you'll have to overlook it,
Besides you knew the job was dangerous when you took it (puk ack!)
He will drink his super sauce
And throw the bad guys for a loss
And he will bring them in alive and kickin' (puk, puk, puk)
There is one thing you should learn
When there is no one else to turn to
Call for Super Chicken! (puk, puk, puk)
Call for Super Chicken! (puk ack!)
My kids hate when I sign this.😆😆😆😆😆
I used that line on my first wife,"you knew the job was dangerous when you took it"then she divorced me.
😂
😂
That's what ya get for being honest.
Next time lie.
Always loved the introduction.
i watched this back in the Longago
I'm a 63 year old kid! Love it! 😎Phillip Austin
Love his favorite advice, "Let that be a lesson, Fred..."
Never trust an oyster!!
My favorite part of the theme song is the montage of photos of John Barrymore, Valentino and the Frankenstein Monster.
I wonder if Super Chicken was supposed to be not just heroic but also a sex symbol like Valentino.
I thought my two gransons 2 & 5 would get a kick out of listing and watching the super chicken theme & song ,,they got a real kick out of it .I watched it MANY MANY years ago Super Chicken will always be COOL.

So you are in your late 60s ,right babe?
@@mariahardy1201 You forgot Wally Gator.
libby the lion and hardy haha
I Loved this cartoon as a kid. Thanks for making this available.
Enjoyed it as a kid....also now as a grown up.
Thanks!
Thanks..didn't realize till I got older what 'super sauce' was.
Thanks
Thank U
Any cartoon with Daws Butler in it is a good one, too.
Used to listen to the radio version, at Ft Benning while pulling myself together for a train at the Infantry Officer's school in late '71.
Nothing like the old cartoons.. They will never be like this again.. Glad I was around to see them as a kid..
I'm sure you all feel the same way..
True, especially when network censors will see the Super Sauce and think it's alcohol.
Could be. ‘On the sauce’ is old slang for alcoholism.
Loved this show as a kid back in 1967...
Maybe the video is not as great as today. But the work the writers and voices did was fantastic!

better than most things on currently
Better than anything anime, with the exception of Speed Racer.
Not just Snagglepuss, but Yogi Bear, Quick-Draw McGraw, Huckleberry Hound, Elroy Jetson, and the original Cap'n Crunch, as well as dozens more. His name was Daws Butler.

Deputy Dawg
huckleberry hound
Wally Gator...did I mention Roger Ramjet.
Tim, you're just scratching the surface but a good list. You must be one of us baby boomers.
born by parents...raised by TV...I began in 1963...I recall vividly the 1968 Democratic Convention...but not understanding the violence.
I grew up with most of these cartoons, Tom and Jerry, Bugs Bunny, etc. I am a perfectly normal adult living a perfectly normal life.
I'm 63 years old and the words to the Super Chicken theme is still in my head. LOL!!
These cartoons are way better than what kids watch today.
While I love the oldies, that is a gross generalization. Have you ever seen Avatar the Last Airbender (The cartoon not the movie) or it's sequel the Legend of Korra. Both are well written and have solid plots, great characters and even a decent message.
I remember super chicken it was my most favorite show
"I'll blast him out with my lightning ray bolt!" *Fires flame thrower*
I remember that cry- I always wanted to put it on my Yak-Bak so I could have it, but it was always a tad too long for it, so I was always disappointed. Thank you for posting this- please post more!

As a kid who grew up around a lot of German immigrants, I've always loved the Germanic accents in Jay Ward cartoons.
I like how Fred can't seem to get the super sauce quite right.
That's Daws Butler, doing his Phil Silvers "Sgt. Bilko" voice, which Jay Ward used extensively for years.
When I was a kid I always thought the super sauce was actual sauce and I never understood why he drank it out of a martini glass. Now that I'm an adult I know the super sauce is booze.
I need to find the sound effect for the super sauce. Heard it on other cartoons too. Loved Super Chicken and Fred!
lol: at 1:02 "the" Oyster" says "...it's also a dandy place to store mushrooms".
he does shrooms!
Ikr!! 🤪😂
@@Bargoth60 also known to a choice few as poopsie.. 🤗
@@Bargoth60 Meh, it could be more in line with when Bugs Bunny dresses in drag to trick Elmer Fudd.
Some things you just will never forget. Superchicken's themesong is one of them for me!!!! I knew the job was dangerous when I took it!
That and Tom Slick's theme
"I'm the mother of pearl!" LOL
That was my favorite line, although there were several other funny ones as well.
Good Lord, that was...entertaining.
Ohh man I used to love this cartoon so much. The theme song is the best. Buck buck buck buck.
There's no substitute for genuine Super Sauce!

This Superchicken was awesome in the 80's.Thats when it was awesome know they have just good movies
Ahhh - childhood memories! "Excuse me: You just dropped your world's largest pearl."

ROTFLMAO!!! I loved this show. Too bad we'll more than likely never see it released on DVD. :(
the world lacks superheroes now because all the phone booths are gone.....
Yes, he did Hokie !!! I loved his voices, especially Jinxs the cat and Dixie the mouse-- ( Pixie & Dixie) !!
3:22 Hey, Super Chicken, Underdog just called. He wants his transformation back.
Stay away from oysters in the hottest months of the year! Hilarious!!!
Love that song
This has got to be the funniest cartoon ever :)
Just CAAAAAAAAAALLL FOR SUPER CHICKEN
Loved super chicken as a child but my friends had never heard of it.
How are you going to get him out of the shell, so funny LOL..

these are the cartoons of all time. These cartoons are stress killer

Now that's what I like. Good old fashioned realistic crime drama.
Ha! This had me rolling in laughter. Anyone else notice that Super Chicken didn't actually do anything to capture the Oyster? Dooooh!
The hoister , what a pearler !
Super Chicken was part of the Jay Ward version of George of the Jungle. There was also 1 more cartoon called Tom Slick.
Carries around an oyster magnet. Just in case.
Besides hat and mask, he’s not wearing anything but a cape, belt, and boots. Basically walking around flashing the whole neighborhood.
I think Jay Ward and Bill Scott were hitting the super sauce. Not that I mind.
I wonder how many kids got the joke behind “Henry Cabot Henhouse III” when this originally aired.
What joke? Changing Lodge Jr. to Henhouse 3rd? 99.9% of adults didn't get that joke.
I still don't get it
I love Super Chicken! Is it me or does his cry sound like the theme to "F Troop"? Great stuff!
the BEST theme song since the early roadrunner cartoons (well maybe tied with Dangermouse)
Always loved that sound effect at 3:18
Same here - back in 67 I tried to imitate it by using my Mom's pots and bottles and playing with sticks :)
Need Cry in the Sky as my ringtone :D
