Thank God it was. The rest of the game is utter garbage. I've been playing metal gear for 25 or so years (since my dad got an imported msx for work,) and mgsv is just an insult to me. I'd rather have two 8 hours ground zeroes than the shit TPP came out to be.
@@mrxlvcrft you're fooling yourself if you don't think this the best playing Metal Gear. The gameplay in MGSV is incredible. If you're talking story then blame Konami for not giving the game the time it needed to be fleshed out. Even then it's still wildly entertaining and cutscenes are masterfully done, and the worst part is maybe one or two dangling threads at the end.
It's funny. This was the first time I heard of Metal Gear Solid and it got me interested, so I bought the HD Collection and fell in love with the series.

Plus the final shot with Big Boss you can see he has none of the facial scars amd the placement if the horn is below his hairline and onnhis forehead.
after the twist of MGSV, the beginning of the trailer makes a lot of sense. Especially with the perspective of the camera, and the line, "What about him?"

I had never been so hyped for a release of a game as much as I was for MGSV. I know the game we got was not bad but at the same time not even close to what some wanted, but I look back fondly at the long pre-release fantasizing about what the game was SUPPOSED TO BE. There were so many things I was expecting and dreamed of. I've stopped hating MGSV, but I haven't let go of that wonderful time when all of the fans were analyzing every little detail and predicting what would happen and hyping ourselves up beyond all reason.
Oh my god thank you dude. I felt the exact same way. Nice to see a recent comment now that I'm looking back at MGS 5.

Man I remember being so fucked up seeing Mother Base in flames. I had no idea how invested I was in the damn thing.
I always pretend that I'm getting my favorite soldiers from MSF back during the "Wandering mother base soldier" ops. Pig, Crane, and Badger. They will be missed.

Still one of the greatest trailers ever. I watched it years ago as someone who never played the MGS franchise and I immediately knew I had to get into it.
That bit from 'GZ" at 3:41-3:43 is just awesome. The expressiveness on his face is just amazing. It's real quick, but it says so much.

Greatest Bond song ever made.
My 10-year-old brain never had a chance against the original MGS trailer back in 1997. For long I thought nothing could ever surpass that feeling, but I also never could have imagined the perfection that this trailer is before witnessing it. It's as perfect as it gets, even more so after everything is said, done and played.

I remember seeing this trailer a long time ago before I was even the slightest bit interested in MGS and thinking it was weird because of the music contrasted with all the chaos. Recently I got into the series in a big way with GZ, TPP, and the Legacy Collection. I looked for this trailer again but couldn't find it, but then I just found it by accident later on. Now I have this song on my phone.

Man, I still remember pre-ordering MGSV and just wanting to play so bad cause the trailers were so hype with good music, this and the trailer with New Order were my favorites.
I still believe there is something deeply unsettling seeing a character like Big Boss in such a vulnerable state at the start. The first few moments of this trailer really set the darker, adult tone of MGSV off to an incredible start
I don't think people acknowledge enough the fact that the real Big Boss literally died for a second

In the first MGS, Liquid disguises himself as Master Miller, and is very convincing the entire time. Since this is supposedly Big Boss, it is very possible that the person beside "Big Boss" is actually Master Miller. It would be about damn time he finally gets some sort of mention again.

Phantom Pain is the best title possible in hindsight. Been playing MGS my entire life and its my favorite franchise by far. The hype I had for this was immeasurable and the final product was so unexpected that I've barely played videogames since. I think the trailers actually have cutscenes that aren't in the game, so there's literally more story in these than the actual game.

I remember when i saw this back when this trailer came out i was in elementary school and it really freaked me out. Oh how time flies, sheeesh i was 11 when this came out and the only thing i knew of mgs was of my child brain concept of 4. I played 1-5 now and god how i wish i could re experience them for the first time again.

I was so hyped for this game, huge MGS fan here. Loved the gameplay in V, but the story was so lacking. So much potential, so little delivered.
Same here man... I hyped it for 3 years nonstop. I wish the story would have been more emotional :(. I still enjoy playing it but not so memorable moments like in past games.
More emotional? When you realize the true subtleties of what went on you will realize just how fucking sad and painful this game truly is. Easily my favorite story in a Metal Gear and the one I personally identify with the most.

It is a sad story and I realize it. But the game barely had moments where I really cried and MGSV also definitely misses epic ending that makes you shed manly tears or just feel this epicness like in some previous MGS games. I expected more from the last part of the series.
There's a difference. If you understand the meaning of the story, even if being sad it might not make you cry because of the way it is told. Which was a disappointment to me in TPP. One of the things I seek most in games is tearful moments, where the moments it the game make you feel so much to cry. Those are memorable moments. There were a few but not enough. It's still amazing game in other ways though. My favorite story is still MGS3 and it's still one of the best games ever made imo...
How is there no tearful moments? Listen to Nuclear and you will understand Venom's mental state. It's the story of a man broken by Big Boss. He had everything stolen from him just so Big Boss could retreat to the shadows and all Big Boss can say to him is thanks? Not sorry for giving you all my bullshit and forcing you to deal with my past. People say the game doesn't show Big Boss's downfall but it does. It does in the only way Kojima could. By distancing you from the character and showing you that this is a man with no remorse, no guilt.
I listen to Nuclear and ball my eyes out but maybe it's because I experience alot of my own pain and sympathize so much with Venom as a character.
Now you know why Kojima made us farm Outter Heaven. So we could feel Big Boss' pain when it's destroyed.

This is so scary watching this trailer gave me goosebumps, while I was watching the trailer i saw the konami logo on the corner and then immediately thought of what konami did to the metal gear series and to kojima and everyone who worked at konami This trailer is a metaphor to konami and everyone who work for metal gear series for an example the mother base is the home of the people that worked for the metal gear series, and the xof soldiers that were killing off the mother base soldiers they were the worker of the metal gear series but instead of konami killing the workers konami is firing the workers.
The xof soldiers are higher up at konami, and skull face when he erased the xof logo that was konami eraseing kojima's name from the game cover and revolver ocelot is sony helping kojima/ kojima productions!
And also the music plays a key part and then kojima is snake. Near the end when the doctor says "you've been gone for quite sometime." I think that's what he said. that is also a metaphor to kojima waking up/releasing his new game/ death stranding and in the beginning when snake is getting cpr they said that snake is in a coma that kojima going dark and being mysterious about death stranding!
Fast forward to 2022, sony is trying to buy Konami! Think you're on to something kid...

Even though Kaz asks “what about him?”, he also didn’t realize it wasn’t the actual Big Boss until the end of the game, where he had a chat with Ocelot, and Ocelot talked about how he probably has to kill Kaz later, or another way around. Hinting at the fact that Ocelot probably killed Kaz.
