8:23 “Why was he rejected by Hera?” Hephaestus was born deformed and not beautiful like the other gods, so on the day of his birth Hera literally chucked him off a mountain. Hephaestus found a home with some sea nymphs who he thanked with beautiful jewelry he created. When Hera found out what he could create she convinced him to come back promising him that Aphrodite would be his wife. In the stories I’ve read Aphrodite ends up choosing to be with Hephaestus because he works so much giving her time to “mingle” with other gods, especially Ares.
slight change, He struggled his way up the mountain and gifted hera with the chair to allow him onto olympus but she tok the chair and rejected him BUT the chair was the one we see in the episode and she was forced to allow him onto olympus and aphrodite was forced to marry him.
I wasn't familiar with it, but apparently there is indeed this version of Hephaestus getting revenge on Hera and trapping her in this chair that even gods wouldn't be able to get out of, and he used that to get them to hand Aphrodite in marriage to him. I liked the feeling of learning another new aspect of greek myths, it's one of the things I liked the most about the books 😊
One thing I loved learning about this series is the fact that they casted an actual disabled actor (Timothy Omundson) to play Hephaestus (who is known for being a disabled God)... and according to a post by Omundson on Instagram, the props department constructed Hephaestus' cane to the same specifications as Omundson's real life cane, so he could actually use it I love the parallel they give Annabeth and Hephaestus in this story... both betrayed by their mothers and realizing the Gods arent as great as people think they are... Hephaestus really was the perfect person to hear her speech and I like the little comment of him putting in a good word with her mother
Idk if it's a coincidence or not, but there's a point in the "What is Love" scene when both Percy and Annie stay silent and you just see Hephaestus being rejected and mistreated while the lyrics say "What is wrong? What is right? Give me a sign". That whole song fits Hephaestus so well - a god married to the goddess of love who constantly rejects and cheats on him, rejected by a mom who was supposed to love him... and asking not to be hurt anymore. He's there wondering what is wrong or right. That chair represents him doing the same thing all the gods around him do. But Annabeth shows him what is right: Percy has shown her that they had to break that chain of bullying, backstabbing and neglect, of not caring about each other. That was the sign he needed, and thus he lets Percy go. This is what PJO is about at the end, right? Breaking generational trauma and making things different... better.
Tbh the last 3 episodes were better than the book counterparts imho. I trly believe that the choices they are making narrative-wise, also having in mind the rest of the books, are so well done. Medusa's update, tying it up to ep 4 and Annabeth/Percy having their worldviews challenged, which is now tied to how one sees in the other something that they lack. I can already see certain gears turning for future episodes and even seasons, and it's so nice that every little scene and aspect isn't wasted here. It's been an amazing journey to me.
@heyitsmira17 I'm loving how Rick used this as an opportunity to input in things that he wished he had included or things that he think could've been different. So I always find it funny when ppl complain and don't realise the author was very heavily involved
The reason you don't remember how the water park scene went down is because they did something entirely new with it! In the books, it was just a normal abandoned amusement park -- not one specifically made by Hephaestus. What was made by him was a golden net made from animatronic spiders' threads who attacked Percy and Annabeth as the careened down the river. He also set cameras up around the ride to broadcast Ares and Aphrodite caught in his trap back to Olympus and embarrass them. In that version, Ares really did abandon his shield there when he realized there was a trap and made Percy and Annabeth go get it to avoid the bad publicity. Nobody had to sacrifice themselves, but we did learn that Annabeth is terrified of spiders, and we got to see Percy and Annabeth combine their skills of wisdom and water to launch themselves at the perfect time to exit the ride without being crushed. A totally different series of events, both with their own strengths.
Walker’s acting brings me to tears. the emotion in his eyes when him and annabeth are arguing over who is gonna sit in the chair and he tells her she’s the one who’s supposed to sacrifice him if the quest required it was amazing. i literally started crying when he asks annabeth to come back and free him from the chair later and she says “you think you had to ask?” And he just smiles sadly and says “just making sure.” ALSO im sick as well 😭
First off all, this episode was definitely my favorite, Ares was hilarious but intimidating, Grover was being a gaslighting genius, the freaking “what is love” jumpscare was too hilarious , I could not stop laughing😭 and Percabeth was PERCABETHING🤭🤭
Hepheastus is not actually Zeus’s son He was delivered by Hera alone, but she thought he was ugly so threw him out of Olympus as a newborn Artemis found him and brought him back up At least that’s the version I know

The one thing I wished they would have done with Ares, is his eyes. In both the Percy books and the Olympus books both versions of the war god is told to have explosions going on in his eyes, “it almost looked like nuclear explosions or super novas in his eyes” I wish they would have put that in there, at least during his introduction scene
I'm curious to see whether Grover has actually figured it out already because in the book, the lightning thief is not actually revealed until after the bolt is returned and the thief reveals himself to Percy. I'm really loving the show so far
The reason you don’t remember this part in the books was because they changed it completely. in the books, there are mechanical spiders (showing Annabeth’s fear) and Percy creates a tidal wave to get rid of them. Grover also goes with them to the amusement park in the books, but i don’t really mind what they did here, though i thought Hephaestus was a little odd
Historically yes Athena was a woman hater. The Athenians and other followers of Athena arguably used her to justify a lot of misogyny in their culture because she was born directly from Zeus' head and is motherless (Zeus consumed her pregnant mother to avert a prophecy that she would give Zeus a son who would overthrow him...as you do). Because of this, Athena thinks and strategises in a way that men were expected to do so and her appreciation for beauty and crafting came from the perspective of architectural perfection and aesthetics rather than more emotive places. As a result she favoured male heroes and punished women who displeased her more harshly than most of the other gods (witness Medusa and Arachne)
The Rated R Superstar was meant to play Ares. Seriously, when I saw Adam Copeland on that bike, I could hear Metalingus by Alter Bridge playing in my head.
Honestly, Hephaestus has always been my favourite God from Greek mythology. He’s just a guy who loves to make things; you gotta respect the grind. Also Aphrodite is for the streets, according to one other comment I read here 😂 Also POTENTIAL SPOILER: In the preview for what comes next week, Percy bumps into a person, who could potentially be Nico.

They are not cousins. In the books gods don't have DNA and their godly side doesn't count when it comes to dating, Percy explains it in 5th book. It would be weird only if people are from the same cabin, which in case of Percy and Annabeth they are not
No in the books the gifs don’t care at all about their children. Because the request the Zeus gives Percy at the end of book five. Percy asks for the gifs to acknowledge their kids. As if that’s something hard to do.
8:22 When he was born, Hephaestus was already a little deformed Hera, completely disgusted by her son's appearance, threw him from the top of Mount Olympus, which left him even more deformed
The fact that Fates wearing a crocs is everyhting. Lol. Hephaistos doesn't have a father. Hera give birth him alone. And those CGI is like so cool. Gold is kinda mechanic make everything sense cuz Hephaistos made the throne for Hera. In the Greek myth gold can effect Gods. like the one story they trapped Zeus something made with gold
7:43 He didn't have to do his sister like that either. *Ba-dum-tish* Get it?! Because Aphrodite and Ares are half-siblings. Greek myth is highly highly incestuous.
In some versions, Aphrodite is born from the remains of Ouranus being tossed into the sea. I believe in later books they bring this up in the series. Doesn’t mean Ares and Aphrodite aren’t related in some other way with how Greek mythology works.
@@NatReads You say remains, but you're avoiding what it's usually suggested it "actually" was. I'm well aware of Uranus/Ouranos and Cronus's relationship as an Aquarian who has read the stories. Yes, there's a lot of versions and a lot of twisting between the Greek and Roman changes.
Because the alternative is:"Zeus was feeling horny," it makes sense that "being born from primordial remains with no mother" is the most accepted story Because it's unique.
The show is far from perfect, the writing is kinda off sometimes... But you have to give it to the young actors, especially Walker .. shown his comedic chops in The Adam Project but dam this kid can pull off emotional scenes so well..his eyes convey so much emotion...

Yes the original Disneyland park in California is the best one! You should definitely go check it out!
Percabeth is Percabething harder than it has ever Percabethed before and I love it SO MUCH
I really hope it doesn't get awkward for Leah and walker when their characters annabeth and Percy find out they like each other
I mean they're both fans of the book so I think they're prepared@@juanitamorgan5475
@@juanitamorgan5475 Lol
Wait a sec... "Perk-abeth"? There's no such thing. "Pers-abeth" FTW!
I pronounce it as Perk-abeth not Perce-abeth... Don't know why LOL.
when I tell you i was kicking my feet and giggling during this episode 😭
Also not Percy and Annabeth being second cousins!!
Actually Nico, Thalia, and Percy would be Annabeth, Clarisse, and Luke’s uncles and aunt.
They are not cousins. In the books gods don't have DNA and their godly side doesn't count when it comes to dating, Percy explains it in 5th book. It would be weird only if people are from the same cabin, which in case of Percy and Annabeth they are not
@@nerein28 so Percy only got his moms dna
No in the books the gifs don’t care at all about their children. Because the request the Zeus gives Percy at the end of book five. Percy asks for the gifs to acknowledge their kids. As if that’s something hard to do.
I mean there were more involved gods like Apollo, Percy’s dad, Hermes, etc. but they overall weren’t helpful aside a few
"Nature is brutal." The Big Bad of Heroes of Olympus...
Early! Also golden chair scene not in book
8:22 When he was born, Hephaestus was already a little deformed
Hera, completely disgusted by her son's appearance, threw him from the top of Mount Olympus, which left him even more deformed
wonder if this will be availabnle on amazon or DVD sometime.
*Ba-dum-tish*
Get it?!
I know right? It's really messed up but to the gods, it's not really wrong for them because they don't have DNA.
Because the alternative is:"Zeus was feeling horny," it makes sense that "being born from primordial remains with no mother" is the most accepted story Because it's unique.
She's his Great-aunt.
How tf did i not clock that youre british😂😂
I swear I didn’t notice until she said she’s from the UK then all the sudden I heard her accent lmao
@@mumboojumboo honestly and the fact that I'M British makes this low-key embarrassing
I would love if they included Jason and the heroes of Olympus Roman gods side of the books.
It’s confusing the idea of both Greek and Roman gods existing, because they are basically the same being. Are they like alternate personalities?
The show is far from perfect, the writing is kinda off sometimes... But you have to give it to the young actors, especially Walker .. shown his comedic chops in The Adam Project but dam this kid can pull off emotional scenes so well..his eyes convey so much emotion...
Great video
I love your reactions to this series!! Have you thought about reacting to Alice in borderland?
I LOVED THIS EP SMM ITS NOT EVEN FUNNY AHAHA
If you want peace never look at the Greek mythology family tree
W ares
Percy and annabeth are cousins because Poseidon is Zeus's brother and Athena is Zeus's daughter
So does this mean they can't be together even though we all ship them so hard?
And annabeth being Percy's main love interest throughout the book series it's not going to be weird for me at all
@@juanitamorgan5475 They are not cousins. In the books gods don't have DNA and their godly side doesn't count when it comes to dating, Percy explains it in 5th book. It would be weird only if people are from the same cabin, which in case of Percy and Annabeth they are not
Does this count as a date?
No they’re only 12 and it’s a slow burn
Early!
First
Wise girl is so damn lame i hate it in the books i hate it here they have no chemistry at all
I personally did not like this episode at all. Do not hate on me but they are NOT adapting the BOOK the right way in regards to the plot details
Not going to hate, but Rick worked closely on this project. Think of it as changes he would make that he wants to be better than the book
@@Kristafarious I know he did and I realize that people imagine the books differently. But it’s just not giving the book details correctly. This is me being super critical i guess but I don’t want it to turn into the opinion we all have about the movie version. The plot just isn’t plotting correctly and it’s really bothering me. Like Percy was supposed to see the fates not annabeth, imo we should see a slower connection of percabeth forming or more like subtly than her clinging on to him in a hug, and other stuff. Sorry that was way too long
I've seen this opinion a lot and I just think people who see it differently won't be able to come to the same conclusion. Like I know it's your opinion but it still bugs me (subconsciously) and like I feel like the views on this show are so opposing despite book lovers being the primary audience@@alyssar7477
@@alyssar7477 You do realize that if people like you keep dunking on the show, we won't get a second season, right? Season 2 has not been greenlit yet; Disney will be watching both the ratings and word of mouth very closely in order to decide if the show is worth renewing. This stupid fandom being so butthurt over this show not being a complete carbon copy of the books could GENUINELY hurt its chances of getting more seasons!
@@ninakrishnamurthy6674 bruh I know I just want them to do better it’s not that hard that’s all I will say
the show is so bad
She is MY annabeth, this episode SEALED it for me
We know uncle Rick was behind that cliffhanger😭
