It is a real shame to see the Memorial forgotten in the woods like that. Lt Cook deserves to be remembered and his Memorial deserves to be relocated and in the public eye for all to see and appreciate. "I mean, they say you die twice,. One time when you stop breathing, and a second time, a bit later on, when somebody says your name for the last time." Thanks for bringing the Lieutenant's name back to life and keeping his memory alive.
Agreed. I wonder if there is anything that the Navy can do about this? Even if it was just to re-locate it to their Naval facility up the street in Norco.
Great vid. I was out that way in January and was angered to see the dam being stripped of the mural. I'm pleased that it will be restored. I remember it from the 70s growing up in South Pasadena.
More kudos for the "local knowledge." I live about 10 minutes from there and I pass that stuff almost every day. Never had the slightest clue that Rincon area was even there. With the rains we just had, I am sure that is under 10 feet of water right now.
Thank you! I just road by the memorial today and fortunately it looks like the water hasn’t backed up to it but the area around it is very overgrown with weeds.
Although that spillway has been a target for graffiti since... forever, the 1776-1976 mural covered another grand painting. In early June of 1972, a group of Corona High students spent a dark night at the spillway (the Army was very good at prosecuting trespassers) and painted a very large "72 Rules" across the face of the spillway. Member of the CHS Class of '72.
I'm also Class of '72 from Walnut High School. I think our football teams competed against each other. Sounds like you may have first hand knowledge of the what you speak, lol.
Anyway I can get some of the GPS coordinates, to the Boy Scout camp and the Old Town? I would like to ride my bike there too. Great video, are they definitely going to repaint the 1776 Freedom mural, I see that news reporting something different, they might change it.😪
Thanks for watching! Unfortunately, I do not have any coordinates but if you take the dirt road on the west side of Butterfield Park in Corona toward the dam you will pass by it. It is about 2 miles from the park in the trees on the north side of the road. You can easily see the flag pole from the road. In regards to the mural, what I had heard was they were painting the exact same thing. I know they started this week but once it is done I will post a new video of it.
Hmmm.....I thought they were going to reconstruct the spill way since they raised the dam. Now they are redoing the mural? No reconstructing the spillway?
Normally I would agree with you regarding our state but in this case, the dam is run by the Orange County Water authority and the Army corp of engineers. Almost 100% of the water is captured down stream and used to refill Orange County’s water table.
@@advfamily exactly what I was saying. They are letting water flow tot he ocean, not all, but they are. There is t a reason for that. The entire area behind the Prada damn can be flooded and held for storage. Makes no sense that any water is let out to sea.
Restored now and looks great !
I agree!

My pleasure and thank you for watching. Long live Lt. Cook!

Thank you! I will be posting a new video soon of the completely restored mural.
This was great. I grew up in Norco, class of 89’ and still visit my parents quite often. Really love history, especially where I lived
Thanks!
The old prado camp and memorial is really cool! Didn't know that was there.
Yes it is! I just wish it was easier for the public to get there.

I enjoyed this, more of these types please 👍🏻. Love local knowledge
Thanks for the feedback!
I have driven past the Prado dam thousands of times since the early 70s and never saw what you showed in this video. Thanks. New sub, 👍👍
Glad you enjoyed it and thanks for subscribing!
I was only expecting a tour, but was pleasantly surprised with a history lesson. Thanks!
Glad you enjoyed it!

They are already almost done repainting the mural. Thanks to Veteran Air for being the biggest sponsor of the renovation.
@@NsixVHF yes it is looking really good and kudos to Veterans Air!
I think there was a golf course in that area that closed down because of flooding. Not sure if that’s where you were when you saw that rock structure.
I remember the gold course as well but that was actually on the north side of the airport.
i live in oc many years always wounded what behide spillway
There was certainly more there than I thought!
I’m sad to hear corona airport will be gone come 2035. What a bummer.
Me too!

That was the original plan but apparently it has changed…
Os this area where all that water is?
California chp police
That’s enough to piss you off. All that water wasted and just sent to sea. Stupid California government.
