I don't agree. Letting people play as they want to play would be a viable comment in a game where i don't have to play with others. Which is why i am fine with people having modern controls as training wheels in offline and non ranked modes because i don't have to play with people in those settings.

I loved the quote 'A rising tide lifts all boats'. Modern controls aren't strictly better or worse. They're just different and make the game more accessible for players of all skill levels and lowers the skill floor for people suffering physical impairment like arthritis or learning disabilities, in my case it's autism, which can make learning new things a struggle especially when i feel stressed out in online matches knowing another person is watching me make mistakes. I think trading 20% damage and some buttons for easier execution of special abilities is fair as it lets the Modern user focus more on fundamentals while allowing room for Classic users to have a higher ceiling for potential.

@@sucubai I don't agree. There are already characters with more or less damage in all fighting games. That has never been a reason for making something viable or unviable. Losing a bit of damage for incredibly high consistency is a highly favorable trade off. I mean losing 20 percent damage for never losing the anti air battle is a steal. Like the air is essentially 100 percent shutdown for a loss of 20 percent damage and that's just one benefit. Nobody can tell me that's a fair tradeoff.
Also, a lot of normals are useless in competetive matches already. So once again, losing a few normals isn't exactly a cause for alarm. I think

As long as modern controls are presented as an option and carry its own strenghts and weaknesses, I'm ok. Providing a way to have a more accessible option to newer players is a necessity nowadays, and going for this route is the best option, instead of dumbing down all of the game's system and negleting the old players. Also, newer players can migrate to Classic If they feel restrictions on what they can do with the character of choice. Caring about both playerbase, old and new. It was the best choice.

I'm pretty new to Street Fighter, I can't for the life of me get the super and special attacks inputs right, I always mess it up, modern helps me solve that problem and have more mental bandwidth to focus on the strategic and timing aspect of the match, which I'd say are the skills that matter the most? I do feel guilty for using it tho, because I get the sense it's one of those things that it's looked down upon by the players who are more experienced.

I feel Modern controls are better suited for players using a gamepad instead of a fight stick as a gamepad's triggers take longer to engage and thus wasting time. I didn't grow up in an Arcade in Japan so my preference is using a gamepad over a fight stick.

Personally I like the addition of Modern Controls. originally I hated the idea as the video first showing it off was a guy winning with one button the whole time, but after trying it out, it's actually not as threatening as many, including myself were making it out to be. I would still use classic for some characters and modern for others. There's probably a few characters I would play where I would play with both. It just comes down to playstyle and what risks are you willing to take. Heck I would also switch between modern vs classic depending on the control method I'm using too, like using modern on a hitbox or keyboard and classic on controller.

Totally agree. Obviously really high level players are gonna smoke new players that use modern, but that doesn’t really have to do with control type anyway. People who are in low to mid level are just at a disadvantage, period. I don’t find that the damage reduction does too much to balance things relative to number of perfect anti airs and no-mistake auto combos that modern gives you. I feel like it takes away such a big part of fighting games as well, things like choosing which options/combos to do and when and dealing with the mental stack

People complaining about modern is pathetic and petty. Let people use what they want. I play modern and classic for different characters. I’m a SF veteran so I’m not using modern due to being new. People can use whatever they want. It doesn’t dictate their skill level. If you are a better player than your opponent who uses classic. You’ll beat them. And vice versa. Being able to do easy command inputs doesn’t make you good. It makes things a bit easier so you can focus on the other parts of the game. And it has drawbacks to make it fair. If you think modern is op, use it. If you don’t, then don’t. But don’t complain that others are using it. You won’t get better if you always blame your losses on everything except you. Focus on yourself.

When you or your opponent reacts to a clutch situation with a movement that required quick reaction time and a frame consuming motion to perform its like damn that was sick. Some of the hyper moments in fighting game history are exactly those kind of situations. That doesn’t exist with 1 frame specials and supers. It cheapens the game and makes what would be exceptional mundane. It’s the fact that it takes precious frames to perform the motion as clean and as fast as possible that makes reacting to a DI with a super when your backs to the wall so dope.

Theres a reason the majority of pro players and high level players agree Modern isnt gamebreaking, nor does it negate the skill level of a player. Calling out the person not wanting to not make mistakes is the most scrubquotes thing I've heard in awhile. Ppl have been trying to find ways to minimize mistakes since SF4, for example hitbox controls arent just for more instant reactions but better execution as well, and since forever pro players have been trying to make things easier, this ain't new, it's not disruptive, this is why the real community embraces modern. Level up so you dont have to complain, because nobody talented is.

The only recurring theme here is that its become apparent only scrubs or ppl who reached the peak of their skillset are the ones who complain about everything you say. Always trying to find excuses why they dont do better or why new players who have just been playing SF for a yr are already surpassing ppl like you in results, who have probly been grinding for yrs. Theres nothing wrong with that except your salt. It just either means some ppl are really skilled out the gate, some ppl need to grind a long time to get skilled or the true reality is, you're just not as good as you think and wont ever be, and thats ok too, not everyone is good at everything, you always have other fgs to make your mark in.

That is a very bold generalization.
Also a black and white blanket statement.
There isn’t just good and bad players.
To most average mid players on classic modern controls represents an issue.
      It’s not about dropping inputs.
The problem is that 1frame supers, auto canceling and instant anti-airs give a huge advantage.
Pro players are 1% of the community. The vast majority are casuals, long term or short. But if you play a game how it was played forever and all of a sudden they add an easy mode where new players can skip the execution skill one worked hard and long for the uproar is absolutely understandable. Not only that, but a trained reaction is rendered obsolete if someone can just mash and be quicker. It’s like giving the free option to take out dribbling in basketball or lower the hoop so anyone can dunk. Better players will still win. But they won’t appreciate that the game is made easier and damaging competitive integrity.
I beat 9 out of 10 modern players. But every once in a while in highest ranks there is a modern player that plays fighting games as long as me. And losing due to reaction time and an instant raw super definitely seems sketchy.
I am ok with modern tho. But they definitely need to give the option to play only against same control scheme. You shouldn’t be forced to play against modern.

What that tells you is he's just mad he's had to put in so much work for yrs to get good at SF, and newer players are being just as good out the gate. Sounds like the issue is the person reached their skill peak and cant face it. Thats like being in any sport and complaining about the new young rookie being better yr one while youve been practicing for a decade and hes only been doing for 2 yrs. This aint new, that's how it is in any industry even with hollywood actors, some ppl have to put in more work than others, some ppl are just minding blowing from day 1, should we segregate anyone new and good and achieving results, just because they're already doing better than you?
You know what that sounds like? SALT, pure SALT.
Some advice, any truly talented person will tell you this, time is not a testament of skill, all because you been grinding for yrs and yrs, and all because what you perceive as difficult doesnt make you good, your natural talent, ambition and dedication is the testament of skill. That's life, we all come in different shapes and sizes and we all grow/get better at different rates.
"But would they be good if they played Classic'?
You can ask dumb questions like that all day. Would they be just as good if they stopped using Hitbox controls? Would they be just as good if they stopped using Fighting Game Pads? Would they be just as good if they used a character without a invulnerable reversal dp?
Skill is innate. What they're really asking is, "would they be just as good if they didn't find a way to enable their innate skill?" Do you see how moronic that sounds? Ppl have found ways to let their mental skill shine, which is what FGs truly is, a mental game not an execution one and any pro player will tell you this, and have said this.
What these scrubs are really saying is this "We're just mad we have to work harder now. "We're just crying because we have to deal with a bigger pool of ppl to compete against so now it's harder for me to achieve quicker success, wah wah." "We're mad its not as hard for them"(guess what its easier for you too now, you have no excuse, adapt or die)
That's what you actually sound like every time you mention how many yrs you've had to dedicate to get where you're at, and how modern players don't have to. Sounds the issue is really just you.
I say this as an old man who's been playing SF since SF2 in arcades, who mains Classic controls, ya'll sound like old men yelling at clouds, its embarrassing.

Honestly. You are way out of line.
You going on a childish tantrum over a respectful and reasonable comment of OP.
He wasn’t undermining anyone or disrespecting new players or modern controls users.
Yet you lash out like a bitter, angry old man.
Your analogy about sports and hollywood falls apart in itself.
you are comparing modern and classic to a rookie who is naturally more talented than a long time player. that’s not what is happening here. that is not the issue of modern and classic.
fighting games were always a mental game. but also always about execution. about reaction. physical execution is as much part of a fighting game as aiming in a FPS game. one button supers, 1F anti-airs and auto cancels removes an entire collective of skills.
a correct analogy for sports would be basketball changing to the free option not to dribble.
then rookie players coming in and beating older players that decide to keep dribbling and playing the game how it was always played.
you can’t fault any athlete to be frustrated. that’s not salt but reasonable critic. and the society and fan base would hate the no dribbling option. a completely understandable reaction.
actually most pro players welcome modern but agree that modern takes away a lot of skill required, that is the point of the crutch that is the training wheels that is modern. pro players still win. but 99% of the playerbase are casuals.
you also can’t compare hitbox or pad and stick, a control device, with a completely different control scheme. modern is shortcut skipping complex, intricate execution that is acquired by cultivating skill and yes time requiring practice.
and what you said about skill is flat out wrong.
the most successful people in the world will tell you that skill is absolutely something we are not born with but based on hard, dedicated and relentless work. putting in the time and passion into a craft. from jordan, ali to ronaldo or phelps. any legend will say the same. from ceos, to athletes, comedians and entertainers. they all agree. talent will only get you so far. it’s the training that makes your skill. your ambition and dedication in putting in the work and time is a testimony of your skill.
so taking out execution which is an essential part of the game, it damages the competitive integrity of a game.
like lowering the hoop in basketball so anyone can dunk. same for removing dribbling.
everybody collectively agrees that if the entire game would be only modern, the game would be dumbed down and a limited experience. modern is missing half of a characters buttons while giving automated execution.
if two players modern vs classic fight, they both play a different game.
to welcome modern is good to grow the FGC. but it is absolutely reasonable to suggest selective matchmaking.
I also play fighting game since SF2 and the early 90s. but I don’t think your logic checks out.
it is quiet odd that you react so clearly emotional and mad when OP phrased his opinion respectfully with rational logic behind it. your reaction revealed that you got some personal issue with people who are against modern being paired with classic. I don’t know why you so angry. but that has no place here. we can discuss this like civilized adults. but don’t give me shit or go on an emotional tantrum like you did on OP because I have a different opinion than you.

The reason Capcom will never separate the matchmaking is because if they do then I think no one will play modern/only a small percentage of the fan base will actually que up Modern matchmaking or just to fuck around and whatever your rank in modern simply will not matter to most people because you’re playing the lite version of street fighter. By combining the two in matchmaking it makes modern players feel like they are a real street fighter competitor. To summarize Capcom keeps modern the way it is for casuals and more casuals is more money. I will say though Capcom did try their best to make this work and keep everyone happy but I don’t think that’ll be possible

@triplemardito Clearly those same pros must've thought there were enough advantages to make up for it. It's a weird argument, "they're just really good, those pros would destroy you either way!" Well don't you think that a pro player's decision to learn a new control scheme, when their job is to win, tells you something about that control scheme's viability in high level play? That they thought they had a better shot at winning using Modern instead of Classic, despite literally having decades of experience playing with Classic controls?

Modern doesn’t need to be competitively viable at all. It’s training wheels. Imagine Lance Armstrong doing the Tour de France on a tricycle. If the control scheme is “for beginners to get their foot in” then they shouldn’t be viable for anyone over silver.

Training wheels but it removes tools and has a damage reduction. That seems more like it’s playing with 1 wheel. And Capcom didn’t make it as a beginner friendly scheme, they wanted it to be a viable alternative to compete with classic. And seeing how well Haitani did at Evo I think they’re pretty happy with them

Pros (and people that wanna make money) will keep a positive demeanor when people these days value inclusivity. This serves in every aspect of culture (trans, LGBTQ, BLM, race swapping). The truth is, Modern controls eliminate execution, which is an important part of fighting games, to try to pander to casuals without complaints and boycotts holding any water against the feature. The truth is nobody respects modern but as there isn't a way to see dislikes on UA-cam, being negative or a "boomer" and not embracing "progression" makes you look bad. All of this is done for public image and in their case money also. Anybody that wants to argue this is just naive or a troll.

Sorry but i have zero respect for modern players. You can climb the ranks with your insta anti airs, 1 frame supers and autocombos into l3 supers, but you will never be the same as players who do it the hard way, as it has been for the last 30 years.

@@midgetsnowman That guy trying so hard to sound like a hardcore fg player/fgc head. Meanwhile not realizing(because if he actually followed SF) since SF4 days pros and players have been trying to find easier ways to do all these things for a minute, I alot of these pros and players he speaks of must suck then, so who is he exactly talking about? The scene and players have been using things like fighting game pads and hitbox controls designed to give you quicker reactions and insta-moves for too long now, heck something like a hitbox lets you literally cheat(depending on your view) because you can charge sonic boom and flashkick at the same time(something that game isn't designed for, again based on your view), you know who uses a hitbox? DAIGO, one of the Gods.
Modern isn't a peripheral that lets you cheat. Modern just gives you access to those tools from those controls from within the game. But still can't do some of the things those controls do. Ppl acting like this hasn't been a thing since at least 2010.
None of it is cheating. You know what time has taught us? All these alternative methods of playing have NEVER proven to give anyone a edge, the majority of tournaments W's is still dominated by ppl who use Nintendo/PS/Xbox controls and those who use arcade sticks. At the of the day, only true skill has shined, you either have it or you don't, no amount of execution or method of controls will change that. So stop crying about Modern and just git gud, or maybe its time you walked away from trying at something you're just clearly not gonna be better skilled at.
Also if you're complaining about autocombos into lvl3, holy CRAP that is some scrubquotes material right there, you def should not be playing the game if you actually think thats a real issue, holy cow...
On a positive note, the beautiful thing is so many more ppl can play SF now due to yet another new way of playing being born! Ppl with less fingers, slower motor functions, less finger dexterity, one had, blind, deaf, you know name it can all play SF now at a better level thanks to Modern.
