- NEW CFA STORE creekfishingad... Florida trip part 4. This was my second day fishing in Florida and my first time ever fishing in the everglades area. I started out using the hellgrammite made by Nikko-fishing.com and it delivered. I was getting hits left and right and ended up catching a bunch of colorful fish with it. The peacock bass would only hit it when i would jerk it. I had so much fun using it, you will see it used in the next florida videos.

Me and my Dad used to hunt for Hellgrammites in creeks. Those pinchers are brutal, and have brought a tear to many a man's eye.
i have caught a few live ones and dont want to test out the pinchers

Out in Butte County Calif. Live Hellgramites, and Hellegramite Flys, and to a lesser extent the plastics, are the ONLY thing you can get the big non-native Brown trout on fishing the Feather River upper reaches before it runs in Oroville Dam. You can get the Native Cut throat, Rainbows and the non-native Brookies( aint many of them, but they're there) on Worms, Grasshoppers, Salmon Eggs and small in-line spinners like Rooster Tails and a wierd little lure called the Super Duper as well as many different flys, but the Hellgramite is the king of baits for all species there, and like I said almost the only one for the big Browns!

True ! I always take a few casts before going to close to shore so I don't spook the fish and sure enough they end up being the best catch of the day ..
Well typically the shore isnt this clear.. thats the advantage of the boat. Also in areas with high pressure... fish are wary of lures coming from deep water into shore.
Joe Blow; Yep, I have noticed that to, and I have also noticed that the majority of the people I see fishing, seldom catch a significant number of fish. I suspect the reason so many people do not catch many fish has to do with the tendency so many people have to use tackle that is either too heavy or in some cases, too light. Then there is the fact that so many fishermen do not seem to understand that rubber, metal and plastic, are not items that are on the fish's menu ! Yes, you can catch fish with artificial lures, sometimes, quite often even, but if you really want the fish to bite consistently, it helps to remember that fish, just like people, like real food, not man made, decorative, fake food !
Speaking of food ,'' and fish, '' down in the part of the country I grew up in, we fishermen , although we did love fishing, we almost never fished just for the sake of fishing, but instead we fished for food. Heck, when I was a kid, I can remember eating fish for breakfast, lunch and dinner, along with goodies from the garden and hush-puppies, for 3 days in a row sometimes ! These days, its almost as if most fishermen are fishing, just to try to impress someone with their fishing skills, or as is often the case, the lack thereof ! LOL.

That said, MDs chicken nuggets might contain ammonia, bleach, and god only knows what else, but for the most part they are organic , usually tasty and more often than not, somewhat digestible as food, while the contraptions that so many people insist on using as fish bait these days, fit none of these criteria !
I think I can speak on behalf of many other sportsfishermen/ and ladies out there in saying that the Nikko Hellgrammite is probably the hottest lure to hit the market in a long time. Just look at how many different species you can catch with them! I absolutely love them. Great video John.

@11:18 hooked into a mayan chiclid at those pipes on the upper right side of the screen, a 7 foot gator rose up and instantly grabbed my fish and snapped my line. Scariest moment ever while fishing. That's at Coopertown airboat rental I believe.

Haven't tried it yet but I would think letting a wacky rigged hellgramite tumble out of some rapids into a pool would be deadly for trout.

i caught a 5.6 LBS rainbow trout on a hellgrammite lol Was fishing in a lake that had them and smallmouth in it and i was fishing some structure for the smallmouths and this trout came out of cover like an ambush predator!! never seen anything like it since lol

@@CreekFishingAdventures They are called Triploids, u ever heard of them?? They are a larger and more aggressive Rainbow trout... They are not able to breed and the females can grow to some really large sizes cause of it. One of the funnest fish i have ever caught.

That's pretty amazing considering hellgrammites are cold water nymphs. Must mimic other larvae in the water. You fishing right off alligator alley?

@@CreekFishingAdventures Nice, I haven't driven down that way yet. Certain spots have much fishing pressure. Your guide has done well. I find that I rig a plastic worm through the or near the front and slow retrieve it like a little snake or eel and I get good results from bass here in Florida in those kind of murky waters.
They have some cool fish in the everglades.
Anywhere that has dragonflies has hellgrammites and has fish that will leap to eat those hellgrammites.
the lure is also scented and i have caught fish in ponds and every where with it

Oscars and cichlids are probably someone's old aquarium fish that got dumped in the wild. They are definitely not native to these waters! Fun fishing, but invasive species nevertheless.

Yea, a different world in South Florida fur sure. Tho ya had fun eh ? Four lb. line has no place down here. Ya gota step up to at least eight lb. up for these fish. Some get really big here. I lost a hellgramite yesterday in a snag. It eats you all day because they are hard to come by. I have to order directly from nikko since BPS nor academy carry. Nice video!

I started using hellgramite lures after watching you using them a few months ago. Ordered some nikko lures off amazon and I love using them! I’ve had good luck using them on a ned rig.
I love them hellgrammite..everyone else sees the price and runs..they are worth it if you dont snag every cast.

The fish over here in the rivers are not so much into lures. They like live bait. I've tried plastic fish and worms but they won't bite.

It takes time and study to find what the fish are eating. Then getting the presentation right. But if you go with a shrimp grub and present it with a dead drift 99.9% of the time you will get a bite.

Sorry bud, I've been in the hospital and away from the keyboard for a week. I just got home tonight and wanted to comment on this video. There are places along I-40 that run from Raleigh, NC all the way down to Wilmington, NC that are sort like this, but on a much smaller scale. I've noticed the water standing before, driving to the beach as that is the way we go to the Outer Banks on North Carolina's shore. I have often wondered if anything lives in that water, the only problem is, you are not supposed to pull over unless it's an emergency! You just can't pull off and drop a line in the water. Where you were in Florida, it appears you can do just that. That is way cool. I'm glad to see you had a blast in Florida and I would recommend you doing it more. Get out, explore over state lines, see what you can come up with and all of us, you're fans will love it.....

Why would you go to Florida fishing with 4 lb line?
because i like catching fish on 4 lb line
I have caught 5lb rainbows and browns on 4lb test in fast water. Proper drag manipulation is more important than line weight.
i graduated to 6# many years ago and that is all I use in fresh water bor 50 years. 4# will fail with any small knick in the line but the 6# will continure to work. I even use it on my plug casting outfiit that I take to Canada in the Quetico.
