Honda civic was a solid d man for the habs, wish him well

No he was not. He doesn’t have that baseline NHL skill, often a liability on defense, and got outmuscled on 1v1 battles

Personally, I understand the move by Montreal, but it is a numbers game now. I liked his grit and size and think he can be a regular if given the opportunity.

Horrible trade, there were times where the entire def team were in the - and he was the only 1 in plus! Reliable, big, great 7th def and could very easily be a top 6 def for a 4th pick in 2 years? Useless

The play was to get rid of a defenseman. We have a ton and he wasn’t in the plans for the future. Trading him frees up a spot on the roster for one of our prospects

Pretty sure highest is used to refer to the highest value, since it’s higher in the round. We say the same about first rounders when we use high vs late, so I’m just assuming

When talking about draft picks the lower the numerical pick, the “higher” the pick. The best 4th rd pick that the Devils have in 2026 will ultimately be the Habs compensation for Kovacevic.

ThIs move for NJ is bigger than everyone thinks.
NJ gets an inexpensive RHD for future peanuts 🥜.....
...which now means Pesce is off the tabl for NJ.
Which means that NJ will now focus on a premium top 6 forward and gritty left-handed defenseman.
Expect fireworks 🎆 in NJ on Monday

After acquiring Johnathan Kovacevic from the Canadiens, the Devils will look to trade Jake Allen, Jonas Siegenthaler, Arseni Gritsyuk, Seamus Casey, and a 2026 1st-rounder to the Senators for Brady Tkachuk and 2025 and 2026 2nd-rounders.
