  • Marmora, Ontario's first mining town. Settled in the 1821 the town became a huge part if industry in upper Canada. Marmora Ironworks was established by Charles Hayes, a foundry was born. The town became a center for blacksmithing, forging and mining.
    There are many iron ore mines in the area, marmora mine, Blairtown and other mine sites served as fuel for the furnaces in marmora. The miners loop is a driving tour you can do of mine sites in the area. Marmora has rich history of industry.
    Nearby is the ghost town of Elderado, the site of ontarios first gold rush. The Madoc goldfields of the grenville province have alot of mineral wealth within them. Deloro is another town with a rich mining and smelting history. There was alot mining and industry that took place here, it set the foundation for the country that would become Canada.
