Oh also, this video was done live, in one take (no digital cut and paste or special effects), and Mix Master Mike provided the entire mix with using one record. Truly a phenomenal talent, this whole group!
This was the later 90s,./ They started in 1979 as 2 punk bands (The new Aboriginies/The young and the useless) that switched over to complete rap and changed their name by 1981. The first rap group to sell a platinum album (Run DMC and the Fat boys both stuck just under a million back in 1985 when the Beasties hit it big with SHE"S ON IT from the movie KRUSH GROOVE SOUNDTRACK. Mixmaster Mike. Tan----Michael Diamond (Mike D) Green-----King Adrock (Adam Horowitz) and dark shirt-- MCA---(Adam Yauch). Yauch was from Brooklyn heights, and Horowitz and Diamond grew up on Manhattans lower east village. Rap was struggling in 1986 to make any money yet, most of America not listening at all. The Beastie Boys did for rap what Elvis did for rock. They took it from their cultural area, that was very diverse, and introduced it the the "white, mainstream and mainstreet Americans". By adding familiar rock riffs with strong beats, and clever and funny lyrics, bands like Public Enemy, and artists like LL Cool J ended up having a career. (They got LL his big shot)
Green: Ad Rock Purple: MCA Tan: Mike D The thing about the Beastie Boys that's so unique by today's standards is they are super talented AND don't take themselves too seriously. Please check out So Whatcha Want, Sabotage, Sure Shot, and Root Down. You won't regret it
