    I own both...I tend to go with this Seiko.
    Why?? A combination of vintage and modern look and I like the way it feels on my wrist just slightly better.

    • @DeanoTXR53
      @DeanoTXR53 3 роки тому

      In which way does it feel better? Bib plus for me is how the 65 sits fantastically low on the wrist and is nice and light, but the skinny bezel makes it look larger than 40mm to my eye. The Seiko looks a little less maxi-dial, but I worry to make the jump due to the thickness. It looks like it would be a bit top heavy by comparison. Never bonded with my old SKX for this reason, too tall and off balance.

      Late to the party here, I’ve gone for an Oris, yes they are pricy compared to the Seiko, but the better movement, lower production numbers is inevitable to end with a higher retail, but also you see less of them, and for me, slightly slimmer which I like, and I don’t need 200m water resistance, as it will only go in a pool maybe on holiday, so that’s me sold, I’ll take a punt on an Oris. Cheers.

    I got spb149 few days ago and man it’s a beauty. The camera definitely adds some heft to it, but in person it’s perfect for my 6.75inch wrist. It looks so classy, vintage and modern at the same time. I am so over the moon with it that I don’t even care how fast or late it’s running. Each time i compare the time on my apple watch and the seiko, i see almost same time. Very satisfied and happy with the purchase.I recommend anyone who is looking for the seiko to go for it if you can find it.

    SPB149J1 Was later put back on timegrapher. 0ms beat error. I think there was some interference with the case and noise with the timegrapher? but on wrist does about +5-10s/day not regulated. EDIT: after 30min dial up +11/s and the other key position 12 down.... -10seconds. so should be fine on wrist. just had to make sure after that horrible showing in the video.

    Close battle……it comes down to which dial design you like better. I’m giving the edge to a Oris….I like the gilt accents and glossy black dial.

      Great point. The feature on the Oris I like better is that Gilt dial, it looks exquisite. But overall the Seiko SPB line is killer and is going to appeal to many for years to come. Cheers!

    The Seiko is an easy winner for me. The looks, the case, everything about it is just the way i like, only thing i wish it had is a better movement. The oris seems like a very cool "dress diver" but the seiko is the one that stunned me the first time i saw a decent photo of it.

    The Blue dial on the Seiko is a limited edition which also comes with a second strap.... The standard grey dial and other versions are under $1200..... That would be a more apple to apples comparison and makes it a much, much better value.

  • @jiawei309
    @jiawei309 4 роки тому +15

    Oris 65 leans more of the "dress diver." Seiko SPB leans more of the practical/tool watch variety, but also a clean look with its simplicity. Depending on what you are looking for in a watch, you'll have a preference for one of the other. These watches are for different people. I am of the belief that at MSRP, the Seiko is a steal, especially if you get an AD discount. Your base premise regarding similar market value is based more on the anecdotal secondary market values vs extreme AD discounts.

    • @DeanoTXR53
      @DeanoTXR53 3 роки тому

      I think you nailed it. Dress diver that vs more of a hardcore tool-ish diver. On a nato instead of the bracelet some versions of 65 actually can look pretty tool watch-ish (not sure about the blingy bronze detailed ones)... but I have the numerical dial Oris and am currently coveting the Seiko. Not instead, just in addition. So damn, I guess it really is a tossup haha *facepalm*

    • @EscapementWatch
      @EscapementWatch  2 роки тому +1

      That's if you are regulating it manually without a time. Grapher. That way you can adjust it to how it performs exactly on your daily wear. After adjusting it a couple times you don't have to do it anymore. The reason why I mentioned the 3 days was because you don't have a timegrapher, so it's hard to tell how it performs with an app or something else, unless you don't give it enough time. Then the app is reliable.

    Great review. I just tried on SPB149 and Oris Sixty-Five 42 mm, and bought the Oris. I went to the AD thinking I would walk away with the Seiko as all reviews were positive and Oris, on paper, doesn't have the best specs (only 100m water resistance, 38 hr power reserve). Seiko specs are better. Then... the Seiko's thick bezel, less than superb finish of the hands and the overall vibe just threw me off. I thought SPB149 looks better in videos than in metal. Then I saw the Oris Sixty Five with a green dial and my heart melted. Totally agree with your X factor comment.

    Not often I give anything the nod over a Seiko, but... The '65 is a beautiful, cool watch. The Seiko is a huge step up in quality from what's been made before for the mass-market and worth the price for the build quality. But against the 62MAS, I think the bezel is a bit heavy looking and I can't really get over the PS 'X'. Diver '65 is so well designed, looks great in the metal (photos and vids somehow don't do it justice). Movement ok and lume weak, but hey... always something.

    I'm a Seiko collector, but, in this case, my vote has to go with the Oris. It's a true re-issue, where the Seiko is simply a 'homage' to the 62MAS. That would explain your 'X factor' for the Oris. Ultimately, though I find some of your reasonings flawed, your final talley is spot on, IMHO. The real difference between these 2 will be personal preference, nothing more.

    • @varanid9
      @varanid9 4 роки тому

      Yeah, that was a deal breaker for me, because, I love the thin bezel, the 12-pip that's just a big circle without the triangle, and, the beautiful box crystal of the original 62MAS. Seiko could have easily made the SLA017 a regular production model with the 6R15 movement, but, chose to give us mere mortals this SPB149 stripped of all original charm. Yes, it's a nice '60s style dive watch, no argument, but, a 62MAS it's not. I love my Seiko 'Willard' re-issue green , and my Marinemaster 300, but, I'm keeping my Oris 65 and probably won't bother with the Seiko shown here.

    That's a very significant beat error on the Seiko... I had to thoroughly regulate mine, which showed (new out of the box) minus 13sec/24h and a 0.9 beat error. It now averages between +1 to +2secs per day when wound. I don't Seiko can carry on expecting customers to accept shoddy regulation on their watches. After all, not all that many people can regulate their movement on their own. And let's not even get into the all to common QC issues that have popped up (along with higher expectations) around the release of the new Spb lines.

      i put it back on after the video in 2 main positions for 30+ min. 0.0ms beat error. im going to chalk up the deviation to me talking and the mic picking it up or error in the machine. But I get your point. seiko should regulate these.

    The only good thing about an automatic watch is the fact that it can be repaird..if one is willing to spend the money for a repair or service.....is one willing to do that?...even if its a rolex?.....The whole purpose of a watch is to tell you the time witch automatics dont do well at all.....The only reason we want them is because they look pretty...and that love affair soon dwindles when you start having to give it too much attention..like wideing and setting the time every week..the novelty soon wears off....automatic watches are like expensive woman..you have to feed it money and your time so that it can give you sub par time!.....I have the SPB149..number 2622...i got lucky with the movement accuracy...I love the watch but im not willing to become a slave to it...BL-1280-54a...

    EDIT: I still support Oris and will buy their watches even if they are less then perfect because they are independent not part of any big organization trying to manipulate the market.

    I disagree for the comments that 63mas or Black bay are boring i will say they are one if not the best looking and proportioned watches ever made with iconic designs for Seiko and Tudor. That Oris looks boring and weird to me, the best looking Oris for me is Divers Sixty-Five 40mm with 12 3 6 9 markers, thats exiting diver. But its good we yall have a bit different taste so we dont wear same watches.

    • @EscapementWatch
      @EscapementWatch  3 роки тому

      As in going backwards in time. It's never recommended to move hands counter clockwise alot. And when the movement is so fast after 3 days it's often. check with your watch manufacturer but it's usually not recommended and if the watch does not hack that's for sure not recommended to back hack.
