@@DylanGravesYT you somehow manage to convey that. I know there are many media outlets with bigger budgets and so many people involved and they don't manage to match what you're doing. These are authentic, interesting insights. The storytelling is great and authentic, The filmmaking and editing is pleasing. You select good suitable music and I think you even play some of it yourself, right? Im just really stoked about every single video you post. @@johannesdenecke2422 thank u 🥰 yes I make some music myself. Found these cool songs from artists that allow revenue share that I felt paired well with the footage in this one, and I made the final song. I see a lot of content out there try to “make” surfing cool. Surfing IS cool, it’s beyond any label actually, you don’t have to try and make it anything, surfing will represent itself if u give it the chance.
I recently went surfing in Japan (on Hokkaido) and it was such a great experience. Beforehand, I had read stories about heavy localism in Japan and was a bit worried. When we turned up (at 7am) it was super crowded already. The spot looked similar to yours, next to and industrial area. The carpark scene was exactly like you described it; people had thought of everything, our guide/friend had his own portable shower. The waves were amazing and the lineup was so friendly and respectful, I have never been in a lineup that crowded where people really respect surf-etiquette. People were smiling at me when I was surfing and it was so much fun. Our friend even told us that the locals had sent him messages afterwards that they really enjoyed sharing the lineup with us foreigners. Gone were all the ‘heavy localism’ narratives. It really was one of my favorite surfing memories and probably my favorite memory from the whole 3 week trip. Stoked to see that it’s the same in other surfspots in Japan!
I don't know why: you don't send photos or videos of yourself just to me!!! Why: don't enter my whatsapp, why: You avoid me!!!??? Please don't throw me away!!! Why!!!??? I'm your secret admirer!!! I live in Japan. I don't surf super often but there are a few places where localism do exist. Last one I found was kind of hidden but had signage saying "locals only", in Okinawa southern coast. I also was advised not to go to the right side of the Torami area in Chiba. I recently had an absolute blast though in Shimoda. Super clear water, nice locals and foreigners (it's fairly touristic) and a great landscape with even a Torii (temple gate) up on rocks right in front of the spot. Highly recommend!
wow Dylan, your approach to different surf cultures is so caring and really contributes to sharing it while respecting local surfers while putting them on the scene well done mate !
@@DylanGravesYT Great! and you're always welcome to check out the Dutch surf scene. Small but developing, with every now and then some great grey North Sea surf.
I learned to surf in Japan. Such a sick scene. So many spots. Even back in 2005. The wave energy is different., too. Punchy as hell when small. Great vibes. Thanks for posting this.
Been wanting to go for a while. So many spots now on my list, just taking it slow and waiting for more budget to come in so I can go to all these amazing places / countries 🙌
Your videos put my faith back into the cool chill surf vibes I once knew when I first started surfing. It’s tough to maintain positive attitudes surfing in LA after Covid.
This video was top notch! I'm a Japanese American whos family migrated to Hawaii in 1900, first generation mainlander 😂being born and raised in Florida though, but its always been a dream of mine to spend time in Japan to score good waves, skate the streets of Tokyo at night, gorge on the best cuisine on planet earth, and you're mapping it out for me! This stoked me out to get out there soon, super hyped. Shinko seems like a definite spot on that trip now, thank you Dylan!
Good to have you back on you tube, its been a while! You bring the best of surfing worldwide! The most memorable was Italy! I was shocked to see pretty good waves in your telecast! Good job! Aloha
Been posting every month but obvi haven’t gotten into your feed, but thank you! And I love all kinds of waves, even good ones 😂 most of the time people don’t like when u share they’re “good wave” spots, hence the weirdness 🖖
Thanks for showing us this. The video is too short ! Want to see more! I am personally glad to see there is still some great people who completely understood the surfing vibes, out of the crowded Malibu chaos, competitive asshat in the lineup and getting robbed on the parking. I live in LA area, unfortunately the surfing vibes is not what it was anymore I hope you had the chance to visit Sendai’s Volcano, natural hot springs and the town are amazing 🤩
That was tight! Surf was pumping. A swell magnet, good banks, peaks everywhere, good community and parking lot setup, etc. Like a little amphitheatre for Japanese surfing. An ideal training ground for the next gen of rippers 💚✌🏼
Like Alkantstrand in South Africa. You can be surfing whilst you have massive container ships going past you in the background on their way into and out of the harbour at Richard’s Bay.
Thanks Dylan for showing this. - The last time I saw the coast of Sendai was just after the Tohoku Earthquake and Tsunami of 2011 I'd been working in the snow fields of Niseko I assisted a clean up operation just North of there and it was completely devastated. I heard stories of this and remember seeing it on the news. Wild to think that that happened and to see it like it is now, just how resilient the land and people are 🙌 Would definitely love to go back and experience the snow and get into the snow/ surf scene there I love watching those guys so much ❤️
The Sendai coast was particuarly hit hard. To see people back enjoying the ocean is incredibly gratifying. I'm going to ride my bike down that coast surfing where possible The snow and surf scene in Japan is unlike anywhere else I have been in the world. There is a level of particular freedom and joy in the subcultures of Japan that runs contrary to the orthodoxy of everyday life.
If you can get there (have the time/money), I recommend a side trip to Okinawa. It's beautiful, and if the waves are not working, the free-diving and reefs are pretty, too. Spent a memorable 14 days there down in Naha and then Ikei beach. The far side reefs on the other side of the island are where you want to look, if you go. I found some great shallow reef spots, 3-4ft, light offshores, 30 degrees celsius water temps. Oh, and definitely enjoy the sesame soba noodles. Best I ever had!!!
