It's not only the pin that makes pedal strike painful, it is the mass - physics. The more an object has mass, the more inertia it has. Which is why even if you file the pins on a metal pedal, it still hurts more than a plastic pedal with metal pins.
True.
Ive been riding shadow ravegers for years. I also sometimes ride the odyssy plastics. They are both great. I hate oversized pedals so I ride the older styles. If I ride peg less pedals can last me more than a year.
I’ve rode the jcpcs for over 4 years and still work like brand new but I switched to the cinema CK pedals and i highly recommend them
Jcpcs will destroy your shins and have your shins steady bleeding like crazy but once you get used to jcpcs you can get used to any pedals especially plastic pedals but the jcpcs weigh a lot more then any plastic pedals as well
I ride pedal-less so this doesn't concern me. Pedal-less is a new trend I'm starting . Soon everyone will follow, give it a couple of years.
Hah. Lots of whips to crank arm landers, eh?
White Frost mid-school flatland style. Nice
Pedals: shins worst nightmare lol
at least odyssey bear trap aren't a thing anymore
chaff inch my shins hurt from reading this.
@@Mike_Jones1980 i still have bits of chipped bone floating around my leg from those things
A H Cotton Hill? Is that you?
Super late to the game with this comment but another video that includes pedals without the tightening bolt that allows them to run flush with the crank (Eclat Centric, Primo Turbo, etc.) would be awesome!
The Centric pedals are so good. I keep recommending them to everyone. I used to hurt my ankle a lot doing high drops and 180's, and that never happens anymore.
The animal rattrap pedals are what I run I put a white spot on one side of the pedal so I know which side to use. Before that I ran the Ruben pedals that I still have and may go back to one day
I’ve bought some tough nylon mtb pedals. Not sure if that’s dumb but I rlly like them. Just kinda wanna know if I’ve made a bad purchase 😂
Nice video. I take my Mountain bike pedals ( Shimano Saint MX80 Pedal) apart every 6 months. Fur a full clean and lube, and check all bearings seals. I have never done this on my BMX, running Odyssey Twisted PC Pros. Any reason too or not? My Saints get caked in mud grime etc, where the Odyssey's are mainly dirt sand rain. Thanks
BSD Jonsin Pedals😍
My most critical opinions:
Metal peddles
Good: last longer. Especially if they have
sealed bearings. Can withstand more damage. I have a pair of ANIMAL Hamilton metal peddles since 2010 (or around then).
Bad: metal peddles w/tall metal pins =
permanent scars and a week or so of
continuous bandaging and reapplying
bandages. Permanent scars. If you didn't spend the extra and get sealed bearings, not taking care of them, will make them stop spinning freely.
Plastic:
Good: light weight. Simple construction in
comparison to most metal. Many
companies have replacemen bodies.
Cheaper in comparison to metal
peddles, when first purchased. Some
slide extremely well. Larger.
platform and styles to choose form.
Metal peddles seem to be very
limited in style.
Bad: if it is a plastic body w/ plastic pins,
which are constructed as a part of
the peddles body. Expect to be
replacing peddles bodies often, as
you will be grinding the plastic pins
off them almost immediately.
Especially if you have a habit of being
heavy on your peddles during grinds.
This leaves you with pretty much
brand new, useless peddles.
Purchasing all those repacement
peddles bodies, will start to add up.
significantly. The cost may make you
wonder why you didn't just buy the
metal peddles you were also looking
at, when you purchased the plastic
ones.
In addition to that, I have been running the Kink Senec peddles for 6 m. Good traction out of the box. I like how you can squeeze the body on the axel, making it unable to spin freely. This helps you land safer when you are getting your feet back on them, before a landing.
Same problem I explained before. Slide a couple times and there isn't any more traction. Bodies are $5/piece.
@@roadrash9024bought the kink senec when they first come out, almost had no time to test it since they crack 3 bodies in one month! If they have changed the formula in the meantime I will give them a second chance if not I will sell them an not advise to get the kink senec
I’ve always liked Primo JJ Pedals 👍🔥🚲💨
theyre stock on my bike, i like them but one of the pedals feel rough. i wish they had sealed instead of loose ball bearings 😓
I use shimano xt mtb pedals that I used on my old mtb
Thank you for the video, more of these !
Metal bear traps filed to a point. 🤘
Less ouch on plastic pedlas.
Yes that’s why I will alway have plastic
Cult PC are the best imo
Anyone thought about plastic pedal helping to keep your shoes longer!? I remember early 2000 when I was using the wellgo those metal pedals was killing my shoes more than my shins! Do you also know that they created shin pads!? Also for turndowns or tables I found plastic easier to move on.
I recently switched to metal pedals and the pins ate chunks out of the soles on my shoes. I’m considering switching back to plastic.
Hoffman soul mate pedals with primo cranks equals my ankle ball always being chopped out.
Sole mates ( sealed version ) are so good though
I had the spiked plastic pedal I jumped staircase and it ate my chins
8:46 there discontinued in the UK you can’t buy them anymore
Just bought some plastics with metal pins, Odyssey OGPC petals.
Nice. I still like 'em, but they're not as popular anymore, from what I've seen.
@@OurBMX I wouldn't know, just started riding 2 months ago. Kink complete pedals wore down quick, I forgot to grind on one side only. So this was 1st time buying new ones.
Hell yeah. Welcome to BMX!
planning in using metal pedals again.
I hope you have shin guards
Primo Tenderizers
Do modern BMX cranks have the same pedal spindle threads as MTB these days?
16:12 The most expensive flat pedal I know of is the Pinnd CS2+ at £265 (probably about $300 by the time you've imported them)! They are an 'MTB' pedal though so depending on the answer to the above question wouldn't count...
Always love you contents❤️
Shimano saint or Chester pedals
I hate those merritt pedals , kept slipping and shinning . Went back to stock ody twisted - zero slippage!
Just put some bsd safari's on my bike today but damn do I miss my metal pedals...so much better grip, they are just ceased onto my old cranks
seized
@@patthewoodboy haha no they are worse than that so they went from seized to ceased
@@younggotti8195 :-)
@@younggotti8195 Old comment I know, but try using penetrating fluid like PB blaster, and even *soaking them* for days in the stuff. I would avoid heat cuz it could damage the cranks, but if the cranks are beat, feel free to heat the *cranks, not the pedal spindle* and they'll come right out after a few taps/impacts.
Bought the kink senec when they first came out, broke 3 bodies in one month, one of the worst pedals i had accompanied by the wellgo...
Now i would have choose the éclat seeker or the salt stealth sb, a overpriced body pedal part but worth it the effort, more companies should come at front at this idea and not trashing the whole pedal when just the body is bad... there is enough trash...
I didn't see the coloney,pedals
fire
Eclat Seeker pedals best pedals
Super long lasting plastic pedal
my right eclat slash pedal stuck on the crank cause i forgot to put the grease on. so what should i do to remove that ?
apply brake fluid then leave it a couple of minutes then try loosen it
@@norwin2791thanks for recommendation. i tried using motor oil and wd40 but they still doesn't work
brake fluid will do bro..it will penetrate between the threads..
@@norwin2791 i'll try tomorrow bro. thanks for info. peace
Can have one
Animal rat trap pedals still d best
Nah I snapped those in less than a month
Arlo Hadley oh! you hardcore rider
You haven't lived until you've pried an old bear trap pedal from your shin.
urchins didn't just look mean. they were... lol.
Even though i now have hammer forged shins, I prefer oddyssey or shadow plastic nowadays
The rattle that metal pedals tend to get after a while is the worst.
Since i didn't rode metal ones since years i forgot about that. I remember now... XD
Dude, just pack them with grease and tighten the 10 or so MM nut down.
how bout talking bout different sizes?
what about curbrider flow pedals?
Hahaha
does bmx pedal fit on mtb cranks ?
metal pedal
metal pedal
metal pedal
I don't like the pedal without the allen key because you scratch crank arm.
ANIMAL : GRALA RAT TRAPS
Every time I get new pedals I have to curb all the pins off... too grippy.
Plastic pedals, I like the odyssey version their can change there color XD
Cinema CK are a shit of pedals, eclat slash or shadow surface are great
Explain stem
Eclaw?
Yup
@@OurBMX yet none of you pronounce Verde or Madera correctly.
Huh? It may not be in a perfect spanish accent, but I pronounce them how the company pronounces them.
That's how you pronounce it.....
Plastic for me.
