Ryan - that box art background at 1.49 which you say features either an AT-AT being built or a Crane Walker has a very familiar shape to the right of the walker. So much so, that I can give you a real world location for it - Calshot Spit and the docks beside Fawley Power Station on the west side of Southampton Water in Hampshire, England. Those locations were used during filming of SOLO in 2017. They doubled for the Core Worlds industrial planet of Corellia and Coronet City and in particular were the location for the dockside speeder chase between Han, Qi'ra, and Moloch. I think it is more likely to be a Crane Walker than a partially built AT-AT as here it is shown standing 'ankle' deep in water.

The use of colors on the inside and the subsequent red and orange and tan bit shining through is completely inexcuseable. As you said, this set is ONLY for adults. I don't believe any adult needs a colorful inside just to have an easier build, espacially if the colored pieces are as big as in this set, so the "find the pieces in the boxes" and the "can read instructions better" argument falls halfway flat. Yes, the assembly will take longer, but that would totally be worth it. The griebling on the outside is also almost exclusively light blueish grey, so why cant the inside with big parts also be? Also: Lego wants 2 monthly rents for this set. At this price I feel like I can demand a perfect set. I don't care about minifigures or an interior as I would exclusively use it as a display piece. But I would like to have a just grey star destroyer, and for 700€ I don't think thats asked too much. Otherwise, I really like it. The Tantive had better builds at this scale. But everything else, really everything, I find to be very good. It's a shame.
@@mattytreks First off, I really appreciate your wording. He mentions when he films on it. Most notably its in the great gap and on 2 grill pieces on each side, but basically everywhere where two parts meet at a difficoult angle you can see color shining through, espacially with his lighting. Normally this does not bother me. But again, we are talking about a 700€ display set here. And I know its quite pedantic, but for a amount of money I could live off for 2 months I expect better. I also know its me having this problem, and yes, I won't buy this set for 700€ for this reason. I would if it was perfect, because it is undeniably a beautiful model. Also, for me it kinda goes against the premise of the detailing. Let me put it this way: If you put this much griebling on it, you certainly want to draw the observers attention to the details. By doing so you reveal all the weaknesses. Its just not necessary. I have similar feelings about the Technic Land Rover. There are a very limited number of blue pins on the surface of it, which in some shots really shine through the olive green paint job. It looks really ugly. I have never complained about blue pins before, not in other Technic sets nor in UCS stands and alike. But if it looks that bad on whats mainly going to be a display model I just don't understand it. (The reason for an easy build does not count for me. If you spend 700€ or 200€ respectively on a Lego set you most likely have enough expierence to build in a monochromatic scheme. I would also endorse the idea of building the insides of vehicles in black and greys and the paint job color to get the desired contrast. In my opinion a Star Destroyer should not have any green, red, yellow, brown or tan colors in it at all. I really believe that everybody who is capable of building the colored structure is also capable of building a black structure.) The main reason why it bothers me so much is because it would be very easy for Lego to just not make it (to be honest: I don't understand why they do it in the first place), it would not cost them any more and we would have a better looking model. Its quite late for me right now, I will search some time stamps tomorrow if you want.

@@wowisntitanamazinglyamazin9550 i mean i simply said dwarf this, not exactly be minifigure scale, hell if the star destroyer was minifigure scale it'd dwarf a whole house
Thanks for the extra insight for this one. Price makes a little more sense now, since there are a lot of bigger pieces on this one. Just got priority sets at tge moment...hopefully some sales during TFF??
Great vid as always :) But Ryan that thing in the top of the command center is not a communications tower, that is a tractor beam targeting array. This is the Devastator, which was an Imperial I-class SD, not a II-class when it chased the Tantive-4.
Is that true in the new canon (apologies, I scarcely follow new canon but am well-versed in Legends canon)? I remember according to Legends Ryan is correct as that is a comm tower, and the tractor beam antennas are the small dish pieces on the underside just forward of the larger main hangar bay. To me that would be the weirdest change if that tower is now labeled as a tractor beam antenna; why would such an antenna be located there? Wouldn't that require such an antenna to acquire a lock on a target THROUGH the ship itself? Why not have the antenna right next to the area (the hangars) where it would be most useful? But then again, I still like to believe the domes atop the bridge are sensor arrays as well since exposed generators doesn't make sense to me either.
@@austinkoeppen6122 Oh yeah, I forgot about that too. The domes atop the bridge have been referred to as shield generators as far back as the old X-Wing and TIE Fighter games. I think the idea behind it was to such least give the ship some sort of "weakness" that the player could exploit, and that makes perfect sense from a gameplay perspective. Just like how the point at the very front of the ship was a destructible warhead launcher, I used to blow that up and use the hole to fly inside the ship and shoot it up, perfectly protected from any enemy fire. XD
If LEGO uses a certain technique, then it's not "illegal". There's no such thing. Besides, the guidelines that they have in terms of sturdiness for the sets (which is where some lunatics got the "illegal techniques" from) do not apply to display sets such as this one. That's something that it'd be nice if people didn't forget (or knew at all).
A lot of people wanted an interior, but hasn't that not really been a thing in UCS sets? Like the only 3 I can think of, the millennium Falcon, ucs hoth, and the death star set. From past history with the previous star destroyer, the executor, the half finished death star 2, all don't have interiors
hey Ryan. Amazing set and I cant wait to have this, the engine cones where on the Nijago Ice Tank 1st I think bruv, thanks for the awesome review, you rock. Big thumbs up.
I'm a bit surprised Ryan would give this the same rating as the UCS MF. To me, the Falcon doesn't really have any distinct flaws (other than maybe the finicky cockpit, but that's really nitpicking), whereas this ISD has a couple problems with it. Imo, they should do better on the gap (eg the 2014 ISD) and there should be three or four times as many minifigures (for goodness sake, this is Vader's flagship and there isn't even a fig of him?). But the real deal breaker is the peeking through of colored bricks; it's truly unacceptable and really ruins the set for me. I also really wonder how much fun the set is to build. It seems like the whole construction primarily consists of making a big technic frame, attaching more or less symmetrical facade sides, and a metric crap ton of tedious detail work. Honestly, it doesn't actually sound like an enjoyable build. On the plus side, the two minifigs that are present are pretty darn good. Additionally, the sheer scale of the ship is impressive and is clearly the best thing about this set. Also, Lego, for the most part, did an excellent job on engineering all the angle of the ISD, especially on the rear end. I'd rate this as about a 7.5 or 8.0 out of ten. For $500 or $550 I'd certainly buy it. For $600 I'd have to really think about it, but would probably still pull the trigger. For $700, I just can't justify it. It's a cool set and I do want it, but it really doesn't feel worth the price to me. More than anything, this set has opened my eyes to how outstanding the UCS MF is and I'm really seriously considering taking the three hour trip to my nearest Lego store to pick one up. Anyways, great review Ryan. Literally every other review I've watched was done by someone who has been given the set by Lego and somehow had zero bad things to say about despite some flaws that feel obvious. That you address the most common complaints people have about this set gives you and your work a lot of credibility, even if you disagree with the problems people have.
It's a very beautiful set but I still think it's overprized. It's just a remake of the old one. The Falcon put an interior in it, althoug the old one didn't had one and the Falcon had alot of great figures. Darth Vaders Star Destroyer doesn't even has Darth Vader in it and the colored bricks showing through in some spots are really annoying. For me it's not one thing that made me say 700$ is overprized, it's a few things. So for me the price isn't justified for what we get. The Falcon feels much more complete with the figures and the interior. I know it's not a play set but with at least a small interior and an exklusiv Darth Vader it would be worth 700$ but just the plain Star Destroyer is not worth the price for me.
I haven't started building mine yet but I already know I'll be painting those awful exposed colored pieces gray. I usually build model kits. I'm also adding more greebling to those two "bald" spots on the sides where it gets oddly less detailed. Those really bug me. I often end up making minor modifications to these larger sets. I'm also thinking of adding gray painted strips of foam board under the big gaps running down the center to minimize it.
I think this set is really good because they actually used the Imperial 1 star destroyer which is correct for a new hope instead of doing what I thought they might have done and use the Imperial two star destroyer which would be incorrect. Fun Fact: the only reason why the Imperial 2 exists is because they did not have the Imperial 1 model for the movies after a new hope. Fun Fact 2: the visual difference between the two is the sensor array on top of the bridge superstructure.
I just bought a brand new one on eBay for $600. Can't wait to build it! I also don't care about the mini figs. Seriously, that shouldn't even be an issue.
Place the Star Destroyer just above head height if possible. That way, you don't see any colored pieces and I think it looks good when you can see the underside.

I really believe that everybody who is capable of building the colored structure is also capable of building a black structure.)
The main reason why it bothers me so much is because it would be very easy for Lego to just not make it (to be honest: I don't understand why they do it in the first place), it would not cost them any more and we would have a better looking model.
Its quite late for me right now, I will search some time stamps tomorrow if you want.
Jason D. Damn where do u live for rent to be that cheap 😭
@@lbeyyt6581 In a students flat-share in Vienna. The star destroyer probably wouldn't even fit there.
Jason D. The color showing isn’t that bad dude, the guy filming has the flash on so of course it seems worse than it actually is
If they make a new Death Star, they gotta make it dwarf this, just be absolutely grand
I think I saw a comment on another video that said a minifigure scale deathstar would be nearly 43% of Mt Everest. I don't know if thats true but I can imagine it being gigantic
@@wowisntitanamazinglyamazin9550 i mean i simply said dwarf this, not exactly be minifigure scale, hell if the star destroyer was minifigure scale it'd dwarf a whole house
Little did he know, the AT AT, would be a UCS set
@@JonathanAntillies0 it's not canon at all but in Battlefront 2 (the original) the domes up top and the big dome on the bottom were shield generators.
Ok we get it, you have AirPods
lol
Drop test: UCS Imperial Star Destroyer
The deflector sheilds were only in the up position in ANH and Rogue One, they were down duing ESB and ROTJ
I highly suggest people measure it out with a tape measure, just to see how massive it actually is. Man that thing is insane!
Last time we got a UCS Star Destroyer was the Super Star Destroyer
Imagine if they did a UCS Avengers Tower!
A lot of people wanted an interior, but hasn't that not really been a thing in UCS sets? Like the only 3 I can think of, the millennium Falcon, ucs hoth, and the death star set. From past history with the previous star destroyer, the executor, the half finished death star 2, all don't have interiors
If Lego makes a MINIFIG SCALE of the Star Destroyer, I would probably have to expand my garage space to fit the thing in there.
To see them colours you have to be looking for them really. Most people would just look at the whole set generally
Maybe not the whole interior should have to be gray, but the pieces that leek through should be.
1:48 aged like milk lmao
$700 is just to much for me to spend on a Lego set. That's a month and a half of work for me!
That's two or three months of work from me.
It’s $1100 in Australia
1 week..
If you look at the antenna on the bridge from the front, it looks like one of those old WWII airplanes
A monster of a set and box.
Yeah.. :D
Next up is a UCS Luke’s land speeder
I’m surprised that LEGO hasn’t made one yet
hey Ryan. Amazing set and I cant wait to have this, the engine cones where on the Nijago Ice Tank 1st I think bruv, thanks for the awesome review, you rock. Big thumbs up.
When you've been waiting a year for the comparison and it's still not out
It came out a week after this vid... it’s been almost 2 years😂
Hey mandr you and danny from lbp finally inspired me. Made my first moc video
This isn't Vader's flagship.
He be Flexin them Legos and AirPod
Well he was wrong about atat not being the next ucs set😂
When the at-at meant nothing a year ago but now it’s rumored to take over as the biggest LEGO set😐
Johanna Müller gosh you are beautiful lego fan
@@slimjim8736 Thank you very much
Johanna Müller 😍
This shall be the next addition to my collection
I haven't started building mine yet but I already know I'll be painting those awful exposed colored pieces gray. I usually build model kits. I'm also adding more greebling to those two "bald" spots on the sides where it gets oddly less detailed. Those really bug me. I often end up making minor modifications to these larger sets. I'm also thinking of adding gray painted strips of foam board under the big gaps running down the center to minimize it.
The white box art kinda mimics the opening of a new hope
*insert imperial march here*
Tiles are designed to be attached on a clip. Definately not illegal. If it were plates in the other hand it is illegal.
Nothing here indicates a future UCS set. Casually points out the AT-AT 🤷♂️🐻🌹
I think this set is really good because they actually used the Imperial 1 star destroyer which is correct for a new hope instead of doing what I thought they might have done and use the Imperial two star destroyer which would be incorrect.
Fun Fact: the only reason why the Imperial 2 exists is because they did not have the Imperial 1 model for the movies after a new hope.
Fun Fact 2: the visual difference between the two is the sensor array on top of the bridge superstructure.
The weapon composition is also different I think.
1:49 and then they made the ucs atat😂😂😂😂
1:56 oh but it is
Can’t wait to start putting mine together
If I had the money and space I'd buy this set. It's a really nice piece
I would love to own this set to but I don't have the money or space either
6:31 I don't think anyone would buy this set just for the minifigures
“The AT-AT in the back doesn’t mean anything”
Lol
Man, I wish i could get more UCS sets, they are so damn cool. Only one i have is the UCS A-wing Starfighter.
Could you maybe put some other iconic or common sets near it for a size scale? Thanks 👍
I'd love seing it scaled to the old SD, the super SD and the Millennium falcon
I would love to see those too!
@@andresgagge6977 yeah that would be awesome!! :)
Air pods in the thumbnail love that
15:54 the ISD is worthy?
Yes, but my wallet is not
I'm a visitor from the future and yes LEGO did make a UCS AT-AT!
Having had mine delivered yesterday and built today i can say it is definitely worth it!!
The thing on the top is the tractor beam targeting system.
some people are taking this as a hint to a future UCS set, it is not
well this is awkward
Rian: You won't be looking at the back
