- Be sure to watch the video on proteins to better understand the following video on prions. Learn about prions, how they interfere with the body's proteins, and how these indestructible proteins can cause disease and death in humans. TSEs such as Mad Cow Disease, Kuru, and genetic abnormalities are also explored.
Music: www.newgrounds....
Maria Sahines made the animation. :)
I came to this video because I heard about prions on tik tok and I wanted to know more. I had no idea mad cow was a prion disease. My grandfather died of Creutzfeldt-Jakob Disease (Mad Cow), and the doctors had no idea where it came from. They were worried it may be genetic. His mental state deteriorated so quickly; he started forgetting our names and becoming delusional, then he lost all motor skills and speech. April, he was totally fine, then by September he was gone. Craziest part was when he was asleep, it was like he wasn’t truly asleep. During the day he could hardly move but when he was asleep, his body was moving constantly and he would do everyday motions of things like counting coin, driving a car, eating or drinking, flipping pages of a book- all while asleep in his bed. It seemed as though he was never able to rest. I’ll never forget that summer of 2011, spending days at his bedside as he muttered unintelligible things and had a truly vacant expression behind his eyes. The last time I ever saw him (days before he passed), he mustered the clarity to wave his index finger at me. Such a sad and strange disease.
I’m so sorry to hear that. I got chills when reading his disease process and how he presented.
Mad Cow and Creutzfeldt-Jakob are two similar but different things. Practically the same thing but one affects Bovine and the other affects humans
there is a great book about prions if you want to learn more about it. my teacher recommended it to me a couple months ago, its called "the family that couldn't sleep." it covers all the kinds of prions in the video.
I hope your grandfather rests in peace
Was there a period of the disease where he smiled most of the time? the Kuru version (if there is any difference at all from Creutzfeldt-Jakob) is known to have that bizarre and horrifying symptom.
Researchers for this disease are like... “If I die, I die.”
Never thought anything was scarier than cancer
Dementia is 100% scarier than cancer. Imagine if everyone you loved, everything you owned, and everything you know started to disappear from your memory. THAT is my greatest fear.

You havnt seen my ex girlfriend
Due to lack of brain this cant happen to me....... (my dog wrote this for me...)
I wrote a letter, but my dog ate it.
Good boy
1 in 1M is still quite high. That means that about 7,000 people worldwide or 300 Americans getting this horrible disease each year.
Я думаю, что больше
@@СветланаТрофимова-у2щ yes
True, but I assume it is mostly people from third world countries that eat infected meat
dont worry chris i didn't want to sleep tonight anyway XD
I guess if I die then I die.
Sweetheart...it's what happens to you BEFORE you die...don't you get that?
People die when they are killed
I really like the way you explained about prions, its simple and yet you gave enough information to really understand what they really are.
Hm. I always pronounced it as "pry-on" not "pre-on." Glad to know how it's actually pronounced now.
No no nooooo its pronounced pry on
Its pronounced praeiy-oun :)
+TG CoffeePlus What are you doing on Super Scienced? :P
Geometry Dash SyntheticS because I like Chris? ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)

Do the covid shots do this?
Yes, sadly 😢
This video aged really well. Now CJD is super common because of the 💉💉💉.
Very informative
Thanks brother!
Can a prion be transmissed from one species to another through mosquitoes?
No its caused by protein missfold it is not a bacteria or virus
Now you thinking 🤔👍🏼
Yes on the first question and not sure on the last. I’d be worried about Covid and infected bats.
Late comment here, but BSE (mad cow disease) has never been found in milk, blood or meat. So no, a mosquito would not be able to transmit prions.
i remember 7 years ago found this video because yknow i was a young 10 year old little lad who enjoyed sjb videos came across this and ever since then whenever i would have a sleepless night and still struggle sleeping later on in the day i would get paranoid that myabe just maybe a 0.0000001% chance it might be FFI i didnt even know it was called that until about half a year ago btw and yeah i dont get paranoid about it anymore because learning its name also made me realize im stupid and the only people who suffer and die from it had family members who previously died from it too
idk prion diseases are probably the most horrific diseases to ever exist
1/1,000,000 is not rare enough to confort me

45 mins and I'm 8th XD Love the vids, the only channel which I watch ALL the vids as soon as I see them, cuz they are so short and not overloaded (coming out everyday)
Glad you like them :D
Thank you so much.

Ayyyyyyyyyy! It’s superjombombo!
Whatever podcast? Anyone?!
I'm here buddy
I do not understand how a protein can cause so much trouble just by being misfolded, nor do I understand how they break other proteins. They also don't denature? What about bombarding them with electrons?
pov: ur here because of invincible ep 5 end credits
heat
say that one more time
heat don't stop prions
well you know no element human have discovered can not melt on the coldest part of the sun

Thank you very much for the video!
oh boy now im scared
So bassicly zombies.....
I'm just here because of Plague Inc
The visuals really helped me understand better. Thanks!
This is disturbing. A disease that can't be killed through cooking. If this is true how is it so rare, and how is anyone safe from this?
Naturenerd1000 That is because cows are strictly regulated.
Maybe cause it has like an incubation of 50 years or more, and brains aren't that well liked to be eaten.
Outstanding!!! 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻

I've always known about these but for some reason I haven't looked into them until now. I truly regret mt decision
Very informative! Awesome :D
The video said that cows also get it from meat… aren’t they herbivores?
Some farmers fed their cows with parts from other cows. @1:40
@@mikoyan454 wtf
It's a simple matter of latter ... The patterning language that begets prions is no more than mRna
Lol at first I thought it said Prisons...
The numbers are higher. He's also wrong about the ban against feeding cattle back to cattle. They still feed baby cows ,10% cow blood. Next time you want to a video about this deadly disease, go do some real research and read some newer study on it.
Jesus Christ is in Nunawading
Nice presentation and interesting animation. Thanks!
So, 2000 degrees for an hour won't kill or destroy it?
Infographics recent video about eating human flesh brought me here.
That’s TSE like BSE (mad cow)
Oh and by the way. I just subscribed to you. The amount of effort you put into this is just insane.
Greatest channel in all of history!!!!
Osm vid...made my NEET prep easy
What is the force moving them ? Where is their soul ? At least viruses have a body like structure, but those ?
We watched this video in my PathoPharm course and I was like "yo, what is that Chris???"
There are 7 prion-like domains in the S1 part of the spike protein in the vaccines.
The abstract from the paper "A Potential Role of the Spike Protein in Neurodegenerative Diseases: A Narrative Review" goes into detail.
jesus christ is 2015 6 years ago??
Question? If your body knows this then how come u dont as in a regular person
This is what's happening now calling it zombie dear desease

hii :) I really enjoy watching your video on 'prions' and I need to make one video on a similar topic, would you mind telling me what website you are using? :D thxx!!

I love you christopherrrr
Can prions also misfold proteins of Viruses or Bacteria?
I thought rabies is the worst , however those diseases are equally as bad as it .
Prions>Rabies
amazing video!!
with one hundred 100%! hahaha
#Canivalism hate this vid
Urg@
Extream tri same age samething
Actually you can burn prions, thus destroying the peptide bonds, destroying the prions.
Has to be at least 480 degrees celsius and needs to burn for hours... but sure, that's one way... doesn't help the people with prions in their brains lol
blz, mas quem tá aqui pelo Kogos?

Whatever lmao
Why are there prions in the M0DERNA patent?
wow that is scary
I just ate beef today , now I’m extremely scared
You shouldn't be. You are more likely to die from undercooking that steak than the extremely small chance from it having a misfolded protein.
Honestly the most scariest symptom of the disease is the media portraying it . Right now you should be enjoying your life now and not fear a disease that has a 0.00000000000000000001 % chance of happening in your life time. Hope that helps clear your mind
SECOND
#superjombombo2
So cannibals get this
Only if you consider steak eating as cannibalism.

love this ❤️
Jab?
Great video 👍🏻! Short sweet and to the point. Also easy for the average person to understand.
Thank You
Thanks I was really questioning myself about prions but now I know so thank you super science
Sounds really important Chris
It is "pry on" not "pre on"
I think Professor Steelmeat did better at explaining prions
+oh... Not only the greatest professor but the best one at making boring things funny
Who?
Great.. Time to become vegan. Can't take a risk!
aavaa it’s spelled vagina
Why are prions so resistant to heat etc?
They're a lot more stable due to hydrophobic interactions and sometimes hydrogen bonding between several proteins. This also part of the reason why they form in the first place since things always tend to move towards a more thermodynamically stable state.
Maybe we need a compound with the bond with highest binding energy in chemistry -- the bond between carbon and fluoride -- to combat prions.
They can be destroyed by hear because it shatters the chemical bonds
