Great! I'm more of a ZF - freak but these older Voith gearboxes were great 🤗.

The sound I associate with riding buses when I was in primary school. Kind of nostalgic.

So many memories. My old school bus as a kid was an SG192. Sounded just like this. I always had notions of one day buying that exact bus and restoring it, but much to my dismay, it was picked apart for parts and left to rot in 2006.

Yes somebody did that to me a few years ago with a B10ML. Once they’re gone, they’re gone!

the axle sounds bit like skoda trolleybus 14 and 15tr

the axle used by this vehicle (i.e. by MAN SG/NG xx2/xx3 series) is very similar to the one (Rába 118.06) used by Škoda trolleybuses

@@michal162 That's what I was wondering exactly, but they don't use Rába axles?

@@MDCrabTank MAN and Mercedes never used Rába axles, bit to be honest i don't know exactly which axles (producer) are used here

They're reduction hubs (sun gear on the end of the axle drives a set of planetary gears in the hub), similar examples are also widely used in trolley buses.

The axles and engines as well as other components were a joint development between Mercedes and MAN, hence why they look physically the same.

Ahh I know why it takes off like a rocket compared to a Sydney D2566UH powered SL202 Voirh 3 speed. This has a higher acceleration diff resulting in a better spread of gears.

Correct, still does 90km/h governed speed though.

@@damianmilne8191 not bad considering it's low first gear benefit.
STA's VOITH MANs fleet nos 3253 -3281 topped out at a tad over 80km/h. First felt a bit slow but gave a smooth controlled take off. I liked it. It wasn't that bad.
3271 received an Allison four speed and that totally transformed the bus into a rocket and slightly increased its top speed by a few Km/h.

This bus is undergoing restoration, so given its age, there are inevitably some issues that will be fixed in the process
