Hello everyone, these are my five favorite 4x4 / off-road easy to intermediate off-road trails including some of my favorite overland trails in the deserts of Southern California near Palm Springs, and near Salton Sea. Most of these trails are suitable for beginners to experts due to the optional harder routes.
The trails consist of Offroad Overlanding, Dirt Road, Rock Crawling, Mud Bog, Hill Climbs, Rocky Sections, and High Speed Areas.
Camping - All locations allow dispersed camping. Some areas are better than others like Arroyo Tapiado, Arroyo Seco Del Diablo, Fish Creek, and Pinyon Mountain.
Off-Road - All of the trail are perfect for a day trip. But making a weekend of it is way better
Overland Route - Friday Night - Lower Coyote Canyon (Sheep Canyon). Saturday -Metal SCulptures, Canyon Sin Nombre, Vallecito Wash, Arroyo Tapiado, Arroyo Seco Del Diablo, Diablos Tail. Sunday - Diablos Drop, Fish Creek, Sandstone Canyon, Blow Sand, The Slot, Borrego Mountain.
Vehicles in this video - Jeep Wranger TJ, Jeep Wrangler JKU, Jeep Wrangler JK, Toyota FJ Cruiser, Toyota 4Runner, Jeep Renegade, Toyota Tocoma.
Areas in the video - Anza-Borrego. Highway S2, Highway 78, Highway S22.
Most of the video was shot in 4K UHD for your viewing pleasure.
Please remember, Mines, Mud Caves, and Slots Canyons are dangerous. We advise against entering them. Always be aware of rain in the area. All the trails in the video are at risk of Flash Floods.

Amazing revisiting these trails after 34 yrs. First visited Pinon Mountain squeeze/ drop-off in '79 with my '67 Baja Bug, then again in '87 with my Myers Manx. Been through the Diablo Drop-Off many times also. Never did complete Coyote Canyon to Anza. Great trails, some break downs. Best off road rig I owned was a 2001 Toyota SR5 Tacoma 4x4.
unfortunately you can no longer do coyote canyon all the way up or down. They closed the trails in the middle for a short distance.
Thank you for watching
Thanks for the great information. I just got my Rubicon and am still learning, so I'll stick to some of the less scary trails for now.
Anza is a fun place. Avoid Pinyon and you will be fine. Make sure you check out our website or app for all the amazing trails in that area.
You have great videos and an amazing website, I can't believe you don't have more views and subscribers! Keep up the great work!
Thank you for watching and using the website. We always appreciate a good share on social media ;)
Thank you for all the information. We are about to take a pretty big group out there and do a camping trip. So this video is really helpful
Thank you for watching, have fun on your trip.

Thank you Tracy
Great video, but could you please turn down the background music or speak up. Thanks.
We are doing that in the newer videos. Thank you for watching.
Came here to say the same thing! Can't hear the description
Thank you for sharing the info. I am just starting to explore the desert in my Forester. Not nearly as capable as the Jeeps, but sure fun to explore
If you haven't yet, get on our website. A ton of great trails in there you could do.
Great video. Looks beautiful. I really hope to get out West sometime soon. Keep up the great videos.
Thank you... Feel free to post on a trail when you are coming out. We are usually up for a little excursion.
Did this trail. Left house at 7am, come home midnight. Fck that was a blast but i was tireed
Sounds like a great trip. When was this?
Best part of the country for trail options
Really is an awesome place... You should come out with us.
trailsoffroad.com. Very tempting. Plan to head west in a few weeks once the weather cools off a bit. Do you post your schedules anywhere.
Sandstone canyon is blocked off at that first big rock garden now. :(
That is good to know. We will make sure to update our trail guide!
Great video can't believe that's California! Do you know if dirtbikes/e-motos are allowed?
Anza is unique where it is only street legal allowed. But not sure about e-bikes.
Great video, I need to get back out there.
Can't go wrong. It is such a fun place.
another great video. i love the old 4 RUnner keepin up.
Very cool video!!! Thanks for putting that together. We were just out there last week, love Borrego!!! Couple of questions. Do you use a GPS for your jeeping, and if so, which one? A lot of the washes look so similar. Second, what is the mapping/video software many on trailsoffroad seem to be using?
Glad you like the video... There are several great GPS's out there. One of the tools we use are our cell phones and either BackCountry Navigator or GAIA . Once you download one of those apps, you can then go to our site and download the gpx files from the trail reviews and follow down the trail you like. This is a pretty simple way to get around out there. The links to the trails are in the information section of the video. There you can find the GPX and information the trails to help you find your way around out there.
Thanks for the info!
Excellent video thanks for the information
We are happy you enjoyed it... You can a lot of great information on each trail if you click the links below the video.
Thanks for doing a nice video. Looks fun.
Thank you for watching
Great video!!!!
Thank you for watching
Awesome... What are some great places to camp along this route?
There are several great places to camp along this route. Outside of campgrounds, Both Arroyo Tapiado and Arroyo Seco Del Diablo make for great dispersed camping. Both have areas large enough for decent size group.
Good video!
Thank you for watching
The squeeze can fit a power wagon? Looks tight...
It is tight
Great and informative video! I'm taking my family out there in a few weeks in our moderately lifted T4R. Wondering if you can recommend a loop or route that we could do in a day and still be able to stop and enjoy the place, but be out by dark :) And not get into any situations that are too dicey. Thanks!
Hey Dustin, check out our website and use the map feature to help build a route. Think you will like it.

Can a UTV (Polaris 2 seater) do Sandstone Canyon? Is this a one way trail? how would one get back to the entrance where we would need to leave a trailer? Thx...very cool videos...and thanks for sharing such informative information
No, Anza Borrego is Street Legal only.
Great video but the music is too loud when you're talking and if you would include a picture of map of where you're talkin
Thanks for the feedback. This is one of our early videos and we were still learning.
Awesome Video
No Diablo Drop Off? Otherwise well done. Will be out there end of the month.
Diablos Drop is a great little trail. If you follow the list (Outside of Pinyon), it takes you through it.
Now, it is worth mentioning the view from the top of the drop. Could be argued one of the best views in the park.
Thanks for this!!!!
Whats your favorite trail in Anza Borrego?
trailsoffroad.com i havent hit them all yet but inspiration wash to san gregorrio is fun
That is a good par
Anyone catch that face in the mountain at 13:19
Wow, that is awesome!!!! Never noticed it before.
YESSSS, i thought i was the only one
what are some good trails in this area that a 4wd prerunner can do? i have a ford f150 with long travel thats 92 inches wide and would like to take the family out here and do some trial driving and camping but not sure if my truck is to wide for these trails.
The only trail you need to avoid is Pinyon Mtn. The rest you will be fine on.
For more information on what trails would be best, head over to our website. There you will find a ton of details about the trails in the area. Link is www.trailsoffroad.com
I ride a TW200. Easy peasy
Nice, I have thought about buying one of those. - Josh
No wind cave hike?
Wind caves are right there at the top 5. When making the video I wanted to put the Slot and Fish Creek tied because they both are amazing. Fish creek / split mountain has some great scenery unlike a lot out there.
Are the intermediate trails on this route skippable
You can do around Pinyon Mtn to Devils Drop, this is much easier. And Sandstone is an in and back out trail, thus you can just drive up to the first rock slide and park.
Are these area's street legal vehicles only?
All of Anza-Borrego is for street legal only
Is there a way to go around the squeeze?
In what means? If you want to do the trail no. But if you want to get up to the bottom of heart attack hills, you can just go up fish creek to hapaha flats.
You can find more details about this on our website (The link is in the video description above)
Is there an option for 2wd at sand stone canyon
Hey James, head over to our website where you will find all the details you need to figure this out. Link is in the description.
Hey hows it going, wanted to reach out and see if you'd be interested in a cool opportunity.
What are you thinking?

The thing you see outside the mud cave is the exact same thing you'll see inside it....just another hole in the ground...The Mountains Win Again. :)
Hahahahaha, that it is.
yes, like the Grand Canyon is just another rut
Couldn't hear you because of loud music..to bad
Yeah, our older videos were on a learning curve. Things are very different now.
Great video! Horrible audio.
Yeah, we bought some lapel mic's, just hard to make space for them most of the time. It is still about going out and having fun.
Next time lower the music
yeah, this was an early video. We have changed up the tactics since then.
Music overwhelms your speech.
Yeah, older videos. We were still working on how to make them decent.
