The new Toyota Urban Cruiser is how big?

- The new Toyota Urban Cruiser is a different car than the outgoing model. It might be hard for some people to wrap their heads around and might even confuse certain customers, but the new Urban Cruiser is now bigger in every way. It even has a new set of competitors. Either way, it remains a pretty great value for money proposition, but there might be another model on the market that trumps it. You'll see.

My son bought the Suzuki Grand Vitara GLX auto. It drives quite well for me. I had a RAV4 and a CX5 and still have the XTrail, so I have hot something to compare with.
We have loud bikes so people don't change lanes without knowing we're there. It's to save lives.
Do you know what also saves lives, not straddling a lane or driving over the speed limit. Just saying ;)
Loud cans save lives........ if you heard the bike you know it's there, that's why we have loud bikes.
That can't be right?! ha ha
So keen to see how the Grand Vitara compares, spec for spec Suzuki is great at delivering value at a really great cost
Keen to see the review 1 month late lols
@@sebbya8370 I reviewed the Grand Vitara for Ignition when it launched. It might be on their UA-cam channel
Great review Juliet
1:48 how big is it
We have loud bikes for people videoing themselves in cars..
You make a good point ;)
Loud motorbikes creates awareness of the bike in other motorists so they don't get accidentally knocked
We just test drove the manual Urban Cruiser and the entry level Cross. The CVT is not perfect but the extra power is making us tend towards buying that instead.
The Corolla Cross is awesome!
@@julietmcguire the timing of your reply is funny, my wife just messaged me saying she's sold on the Cross and is getting insurance quotes now!
@@Steve-go6oq AMAZING! I am so excited. It truly is a great car. Just convinced a friend of mine to get one too and they are loving it.
I love your videos!!!! It's so useful! I wish I came across your channel before I bought my Chery. It is SO high when it comes to fuel consumption, I am dyyyying!!!!!!
Tiggo 4? 🙂
@@sameerbrown673 yes 😭
@@Blue333. Oh my 🫤
What mileage are you getting per litre?
How long have you had it?
@@Blue333. We need answers here, please 🤣🤣
17 litres per km, I swear to 1 living God!!!! And I have it for a year and a half now. I'm about ready to trade it in.
I totally feel you about that gearbox, I recently got a rental Urban Cruiser to travel from Centurion to Nelspruit, and I was so annoyed at how much it whines at highway speeds. I also think it worsened my consumption because, boy it hunts. It needs an extra gear or two. As for the loud bikes 🤬 let's just leave it there...
Great review as always. Much love ❤
She’s annoying af!
Ya, that whine is a real pain! haha the bikers, arg!
Than I will avoid it. Thanks for the feedback 🙆♂️ good luck
@@jdzajdza It's alright for city driving, never take it for a long trip on the highway
I just checked and the 2024 Cruiser here in KSA now comes with a 6-speed auto transmission :O - Lucky me
Thanks for the feedback @ZakPooe @julietmcguire
Hi your thoughts on new swift
Can't believe the XS has no cruise control. That is a huge selling point for the Grand Vitara GL.
In India it gets paddle shifters cruise control and 360 degree camera
I have shortlisted the Grand Vitara and the Baleno for my test drive
Let me know what you choose!
The Cruiser has grown up.
That overtake was louder than the motor bike
Waahahaha true
You'd be better off getting the Grand Vitara. A lot more spec for less money.
Yup
I 💯 % agree
How's this compared to the Chery Tiggo 4?
Not even competition. The Chery Tiggo 4 is better specced and much more fun to drive
@@ZakPooe
Not to mention a little bit cheaper too...
OK I lie. more like a LOT cheaper too.
@@EffKayDownSouth 🤣🤣🤣
@@EffKayDownSouth you can only compare this to a elite cvt. not an urban. in that regard the chery is now more expensive. And it may seem like good value now, but go online at 2nd hand cherys, they depreciate by almost R30-40k when they only put on like 10-15k km. Toyota value will will show in the long run
@@lifeonsafari5989
What makes this Toyota comparable to the Elite?
What features and quality points and fit and finish make it comparable?
And the only reason that Toyota seems to not depreciate as strongly is because the average Toyota buyer knows nothing about cars and just goes for a brand that everyone else says is good rather than assess the actual merits of the product itself.
Like you've just done.
Show why the Urban Cruiser in any trim level is comparable to the Chery Tiggo4 Elite instead of the Urban.
Quite an enjoyable review. Very informative, with an good sense for the vehicle.
I have the 2018 Yaris CVT and it revs quite high when accelerating so moving from the Yaris to the Urban Cruiser not so bad but the 4 gears is a caution.
it's very old technology, but also remember this car only weighs as much as a polo (1.1t), so despite its size it would probably fair ok, taking into account most na economy cars will struggle when loaded up
This gets a eCVT for the Hybrid powertrain and a 5 spd MT / 6 spd TC AT with the NA engine in India…
Looking at renting an Urban Cruiser for a trip along the garden route, would I be better with a manual do you think?
Hmmm the auto is a bit screechy maybe. The manual should do you find, also better on fuel consumption.
This is Hyryder in Indian Market.. based on Suzuki Grand Vitara.. Good for Indian Market
Sadly for Toyota the Suzuki Grand Vitara is a better proposition. Air bags, Infotainment, leather, mags etc.In fact, the Suzuki has a rear wiper........
I test drove the Grand Vitara and it was surprisingly fantastic on the highway. I did not expect it do so well. And it sounds like the Toyota wasn't a pleasant highway experience?
But it’s the same engine?
@@lifeonsafari5989 i know, which is weird. Admittedly, being on a test drive, I didn't nail the accelerator to see if it behaved the same as in the video. Fortunately, my wife won't be driving like that, she's more in the Miss Daisy mould.
@@waynelion-cachet35 I think once you're cruising it is really fine. But as you put foot or want to overtake it starts to feel the pressure. Especially the 'box
@@julietmcguire I did say that to one of the other people that commented on my comment. I think the salesman on the test drive would have messed his pants if I'd flattened the accelerator to "check" the gearbox 🤣🤣🤣
Wow, 77KW. Breathtaking performance with a four-speed automatic. 😂
Honestly, what were they thinking ?
Haha exactly
What was the most successful car brand in South Africa think that you, a UA-cam genius, haven’t thought about 😂😂
90 to 100kws of power would have been better. Man you press and press that accelerator when overtaking until you blue in the face.
I agree with the bike thing. Good video.
Hey Juls, great review as always. However, there is something special missing. Where is the music? I need that back PLEASE!
Haha thanks Trevor. Some people hated it ha ha. But also, UA-cam can be a bit sticky with copyrights etc.
Suzuki for the win 🥇
Ford is really stepping up, interiors good, styling good, vw still king, just compare this with t cross
I loved the 2009 generation based on the Scion xD, not really a fan of this One but It looks hundred times Better than the ugliest Yaris Cross
Maybe a candidate for an aftermarket turbo charger...😁
Hmmmm interesting...
It looks good but it's just basically a Suzuki Grand Viata GL spec 😭. I'd love the Grand Vitara GLX but it's a bit big
They are the same size.
I love you and I love your videos but I really wish you'd give us more in depth reviews and more substantial information, just like we all asked for earlier this year when you asked for our input. Because now I'm forced to go watch those Australian reviewers who do cover all of those bases. And I'd much rather listen to you.
Ah Richard, I would love to be able to go into more detail etc.But I don't have enough time or resources. It is just me. These vids are to give you a better idea of the car, but not every detail. Hopefully I will become a zillionaire soon and can create incredible vids. I really appreciate your comment though.
I wanted an auto in my Baleno but this 4-speed auto just wasn't going to work. It should have had at least 6 gears or maybe a CVT.
Yip
Great
@julietmcguire the auto is not worth it - 20k more or so gets you the Corolla Cross, which has more power and more refined albeit probably less spacious at the back. You should have mentioned it here!
When Toyota gonna use turbo in their cars ???
1.5l NA with a 4-speed auto in a car that size. Shame. It's a real pity as the rest of the package looks decent.
It's a 5 speed manual and a 4 speed automatic. Get your information correct 💀💀💀
And it's overpriced considering it's the same as the Suzuki Grand Vitara GL spec for way less
Which country this urban cruiser get 4 speed automatic?in gcc and India this car get 6 speed automatic, two engine specification one with Toyota hybrid and another Suzuki 1.5
77kw in a big car is a nightmare
It really is
Germans 7 plus gears and Japanese are going for less gears
Really sad they got rid of their compact offerings. This is just too large of a car for me.
That engine is going to be hateful at JHB altitude.
I test drove the previous one with the 4 speed auto and it was a much smaller and lighter car. I was horrified by how slow and sluggish it was. It is actually dangerously sluggish. Sad that South Africans are given the auto industry's scraps and we just eat it up. It is why many people will continue to buy Chinese cars. They are offering better quality, features and drivetrains at lower prices.
Well said. Thanks for telling them the honest truth. Just look at the 7 inch screen. Why does Toyota take their customers for granted? In this segment they're just letting customers check other options like the Haval as you mention. Anyway, they've made a name for themselves with the longevity from the Toyota Brand.
You welcome go buy chinese😅
@@clivescott6620 Great. More people are doing so and are very happy.
Van needs a turbo engine
What could be the most amazing vehicle let down by gearbox and lack luster engine. So So disappointed. :(
Why does urban cruiser have a light at the boot?
No leather steering wheel? Really?
Plastic gear handle? Common
Who hired Jannie? He install a bad screen?
No read wiper? Unbelievable
Speaking as an ex biker after someone “didn’t see me” because she was looking at her phone (or GoPro as spectacularly displayed here) and ended my 25 year passion after a 2 month stint in ICU and 2 year recovery, I can confirm LOUD PIPES SAVE LIVES !
Engine not powerful enough but journalist want a 6th gear and forget it's a budget section 😂 to do what with? Will only ever use 6th when down a mineshaft 😂
The 6th gear allows an engine (of any size) to cruise at a low rpm at motorway speeds, thus saving fuel and (most importantly) running quietly. With 5 gears, the transmission either has to have long gears to operate like a 6 speed... thus reducing its power even further, or the gears are short to improve power and acceleration, but at the cost of high rpm at motorways speeds and high fuel consumption.
5 speed transmissions are ancient junk that belong in a museum.
@@angrysocialjusticewarrior rubbish. @ naturally aspirated small engine with low torque can NOT cruise and maintain speeds between 100 and 120kmh. They can NOT. Want to argue then post a video of you cruising around in 6gh gear and show us.
My car has 6 speeds and in daily commute and between Pretoria and Sandton you are hardly ever in 6th. Need open road and be doing 130 plus for it to maintain speed. Slightest incline on N14 and you back to 5th.
Internet troll
@@angrysocialjusticewarrior 120kmh in suzuki Baleno is 3000rpm in 5th. Can not even hear engine. And gets over 18km per liter.
Now add 6th gear and revs probably 2500rpm with 138nm torque. Will not maintain any speed unless road perfectly flat/downhill and you won't overtake anything in gear.
@@mprinsgsxr Agreed! people really need to know how gearboxes work before they assume a car needs a 6th gear. Sometimes it is just not needed and will lead to unnecessary downshifts.
Venoza comparison
that is one angry car @80 😂
This Urban Cruiser still got a mickey mouse engine,I will either buy the Mazda CX 3 or the CX 30 with the 2.0 litre engins.
Ya, the engine is the real let down.
A Suzuki Grand Vitara with a Jimney 1500 engine and gearbox...really crap with a 4 speed auto box. Wat were they thinking ....Toyota & Suzuki
What about the global Ncap rating for this tin can? Most of the Mahindra and Tata cars we drive here in India have 5 star global ncap rating!
Good question!
4 speed 😂 India gets the 6 speed. Don't understand Suzukis fixation on this 4 speed. It's almost as of they have manufactured 2 million units in 2010 and have been putting this in anything and everything
Ok you say ok alot ok for a non biker ok
Guess I'm a f%@king asshole 😂
Still enjoy your videos 👍🏼
Only when you're on your bike. Haha, just kidding.
The people buying the Toyota version of the Suzuki's are stupid just plain stupid, you get less as standard for more money and a worse warranty and worse service plan. South Africans just buy anything with a Toyota badge
Many of them do not live near a Suzuki dealership. Yota is in every town.
4 speed auto....😂
"Do your research" Funny you should say that, you made at least half a dozen glaring mistakes in misquoting specs/numbers. Not a good look. 1st video watched of this channel, also the last.
Um, hi Nick. Please do enlighten me as to the mistakes I made. I welcome constructive criticism. But I would need the specs/numbers you say I misquoted.
Old fashioned inside, underpowered, looks like my oupas Datsun inside, Toyota didn't keep up with the times, this is a outdated car. Capish
Please stop cussing on your videos if you can
Horrible thing, especially inside.
Toyota and its trash engine offerings is a real problem
🆒😎👍
😆
You drove the silliest mahindra KUV 100 and gave a judgment that mahindra cars are not good! I must tell world through you that Mahindra produces worlds finest SUVs..try the New Thar, Scorpio-N and XUV 700....I am damn sure you will forget these tin cans which you keep reviewing!
Tell Mahindra to give me their latest cars to test then. That KUV100 was crap.
A 1.5 litre four cylinder is too small of a engine for what looks to be reasonably large vehicle something like 2 litre engine or even a 2.5 litre engine would be a better choice.
How does this compare to Honda HRV or Nissan Kicks?
