    Had one gathering dust in the cupboard that has only ever been played for about 30 minutes in 13 years. Just plugged it in to my Squire tely and it’s not half bad 👍

    I bought one of these second hand a couple of years ago, and it's a great little thing. I love the retro look with the the chicken's head control knobs.

    Hi again John. One of my favourite little amps has long been the Stagg 10AA 10w acoustic amp. I use it with both electro-acoustics and electrics. I don't use distortion unless it's touch of mild overdrive through a Mad Professor 'Sweet Honey' pedal. I prefer clean, warm tones with reverb, chorus and/or phase. Tthe 10AA copes very well indeed even though it's meant for use with acoustics.
    Off now to check that review of the Fender Frontman. I did try one of those but always came back to the Stagg.

    finally i put this amp into an old tweed cabinet, a few bigger than the stock cabinet,with an 8 inch celestion speaker.i can't say it's an upgrade,because the stock amp is very good,but just different,in a good way.this little amp sounds very "tri-dimensional",and you feel you can "touch" the nice sounds come out from it

    Hello again John .in a previous post i said i have got the 15 watt version of this with reverb. Its a cracking amp. But as usual, curiosity got the better of me. I purchased a second hand vox vt20+ .Mainly for the multi effects. A few of which i like. but on the whole. i prefer the Stagg amp for now, better. Less is more . Neal Flett

      Quite right, a good basic tone is better than a thousand effects.

    Hello again john. I sold my vox vt20+on ebay .But once again curiosity got the better of me. So i bought a second hand laney linebacker lr20. But guess what i still like the 15w stagg amp better.

      It is easy to forget that the guitar is only half your sound and the amp is the other half.

    While everyone, including myself is ditching solid state for tube (valve in your country) amps, solid state is becoming increasingly undesirable, and cheap. However, last week i dug up one of my first amps: a 15w Crate GX-15 made in St. Louis Missouri in 1996. When i was a teenager, i thought it was ok, but of course i wanted something bigger, and louder. That came in the form of a Fender Princeton 112 Plus. That was my first real nice amp and it seeved me well from my late teens through till my late 20's. Then i became a tube (valve) snob and neglected my solid state companions. Luckily i never sold them. They waited quietly for me at mom's house, for the last ten tears.
    Last week, i dug up the Crate and it sounds amazing to my more mature ears now. I believe i will be buying quite a few solid state amps from the 90's in the near future. Someday people are going to look for that "vintage " solid state sound, and they won't be dirt cheap anymore.

      A Wesley which I reviewed a while ago had been used for spares so when I got a cheap Yamaha Pacifica 112 with high fret wear I used the Wesley neck. The Wesley neck has a wider profile and is more comfortable than the Yamaha. On the Yamaha itself I replaced the white scratch plate with a tortoiseshell one and moved the bridge humbucker to the neck, which meant removing some wood. I turned the pick up selector 180 degrees and fitted a higher output humbucker in the bridge position and all because I was bored!

    Hello john i,ve got one of those amps. its the 15w version with reverb. I think the amp is pretty good.Could you recommend a pair of headphones for the amp. Many regards Neal

      Hi Neal, Sorry but I know next to nothing about headphones. A shop like Curry's / PC world is probably the best bet as I think you can try out various sets.

    Not bad for $75. You'd expect it to be a complete piece of crap, but I really like the distorted tone. Not something I'd gig with obviously, but I think it stacks up nicely against my old Peavey Audition 20.

      I use a Zoom acoustic pedal with mine and as you say it sounds great.

    Hello again john .Well curiosity got the better of me again .I bought a second hand blackstar id core 10 and a still prefer the stagg 15w amp . I will never buy an amp with built in effects again.Just out of interest ,what amp would you use . Neal

    • @JohnCouplandguitar
      @JohnCouplandguitar  7 років тому

      At the moment I have a hissy Fender 15 watt and the Stagg 10W which is the one I use the most. I was given a Zoom delay for acoustic guitar which does the job as I rarely use distortion.

    Can it sound like a bass if you set it in a way?

    • @JohnCouplandguitar
      @JohnCouplandguitar  4 роки тому +2

      No amp will make your ordinary guitar sound like a bass you need an octave pedal e.g. www.gear4music.com/Guitar-and-Bass/TC-Electronic-Nether-Octaver/25JA Budget pedals like this are monophonic, they only play one note at a time but for more bucks you get more notes. Whenever you buy a pedal remember to buy another cable as well.

    Hello, I'm from Brazil and a friend gave one of this Stagg for me, but The power supply circuit wasn't connected. I can't find the schematics anywhere, so could you send me a photo from the internal circuit?

      It is best to consult a qualified electrician as getting it wrong could be fatal.

    Looks similar in layout to the Huntington GA10? Same amp but different branding?

    • @JohnCouplandguitar
      @JohnCouplandguitar  6 років тому +2

      Probably it is. Most companies supply more than one brand. I once unpacked a new Yamaha to find that the sticker on the scratch plate said, 'Takamine.'

    THANK TO YOUR VIDEO SIR,I BOUGHT ONE. LITTLE SIZE,INCREDIBLE SOUND. VERY POWERFUL,MOVING THE EQ KNOBS YOU CAN REACH MANY WARM KIND OF SOUNDS. THEN I PUT ON IT ANY PEDAL I HAVE,BOTH IN CLEAN AND IN THE DIRTY CHANNEL,AND IT SOUNDS EXTREMELY GREAT AND EFFECTIVE. THE SPEAKER(NICE) IS PERFECT FOR THE SIZE OF THE CLOSE CABINET(ALMOST CUBIC).THE VOLUME IS VERY HIGH.THE GAIN IS SUPER POWERFUL AND WARM (I JUST USE IT AT 0.5 AND IT'S ENOUGH TO HAVE A BIG,NATURAL CRUNCH).EXACTLY A LITTLE NICE MACHINE,THANKS

    These amps aren't good.
    I've got the 20w version but it's actually only 15w as it's only got an 8 inch speaker.
    My plug pins were bent , it doesn't have a good distortion overdrive sound there's a buzzing noise . If you listen closely you can hear it in the video. Clean channel sounds OK.
    It's cheap Chinese junk . There asking £100 new for this amp , you'd be mad not to get an orange, marshall or peavey style for the same price .

    • @JohnCouplandguitar
      @JohnCouplandguitar  3 місяці тому

      Agreed, I got this with a guitar in a trade but Peavey or Orange would be preferable.
