It was adressed in the video, but I will stress it again. Beating around the bush is perceived as being dishonest or even passively aggressive in most of the Netherlands (except the deep south).

I have been on many holidays in the Netherlands, I always find it a pleasure to engage in conversation with Dutch men and women, and in fact they seem to enjoy it themselves, my opinion is that they are a honest straight forward nation of people, that will do all they can to help, and give advice to a foreigner visiting their country. Len, UK.

In the UK, if someone says "you must come over for tea" it definitely means "I do not want to ever see you again." Drives me crazy. Also, I found that if I invited someone over for a cup of tea and suggested an actual date, a look of horror was in their eyes as they thought of excuses as they were scared of having to invite you back (this is in the south, I think the north is more friendly). I've given up now. I'm 71, grew up in the US but left when age 15.

If people are not saying the things they think, how can you trust the things anyone says.

In fact beating around the bush a lot is considered rude sometimes. Why are you holding up whatever business we have?

Yep, that's us. We're no diplomats, we simply speak our minds.

Problem is that most people get their panties too tight when we are blood honest to them and direct and we dutch do not give a rat's arse about that either...

Here is my perspective. You see this video and take from it that we don't perceive directness as rude. In reality we see the other wasting our time as rude. Directness is efficient and has value. In fact it makes a compliment more valuable. It is superior communication. Just to some cultures this value is overshadowed by the inability to deal with criticism and to have a valid opinion. (Because of doctrine, politics or religion or even personal shortcomings)

It’s about being honest, not beating endlessly around the bush let alone being dishonest, fake, not sincere.
