Hey Matt, one year ago I was unemployed and thanks to you, I now have a new career. I started building some of your dog kennels and farm house tables and some other things which eventually led to me doing handyman work. I started my own business that has taken off pretty well. Prior to watching your videos, I couldn't even read a tape measure! Anyways, just want to say thanks and glad to see you and yours really taking off! God bless you brother
Awesome to hear that someone is doing good. I, myself just got out of a dead end job and got my construction business up and running. It's very satisfying knowing the home owner is happy with my work ( or well, anyone that buys a service or product from you).... Again, awesome to hear!!
Compared to the original chunky style coffee table video you’ve advanced so much. From spf to walnut top. From pocket holes to dominoes. That walnut top looks beautiful.
Hey Matt, thanks for including the paint overspray issue in the video. You know, I know, we all know that the DIY Nation out here will fall prey to those sorts of mistakes at some point in our wood working endeavors... Great video!
After twenty-seven years working as a 3D modeler/animator in the DOD industry, I`ll be getting laid off the 31st of December. Your channel, you`re faith and attitude... they`ve inspired me to give it a go! Woodworking. This is something I`ve always wanted to do anyway, I`m just thankful that I have resources like yourself to help me along the way! My very best to you and yours, and I`m hoping that 2022 sees your continued growth and prosperity! Cheers!!
I really like how you show your mistakes my friend, that shoe us that you are real no like the others wood workers that want us to believe that they walk over water. Keep showing us your art buddy you're awesome.
I have been a lowkey follower of yours for a while!! I brings me great pleasure of all the upgraded tools you have gotten. I have been a woodworker since 05' and I have wished you all the tools I have for you. Now next is that track saw! Table came out awesome!
Perfect timing, I account for 100's of views of the original build video of this as I'm currently building my own. You read my mind Matt! I've been wanting a retake of this build video for an age :). Thanks man! Virtual fist bump right back at cha' from the UK :). Will post photo's in the Facebook group when finished. Many happy accidents occurred lol
The table turned out to be very nice. I think it will fit well into the interior of a country house. I also dream of making a table or bedside table with jewelry handles or other fittings.
One of the great things about Rubio is that you can sand the area that needs to be fixed and reapply the Rubio. It blends in and doesn't show any discoloration.
Hey Matt, I love all of your build videos. They're very in depth and you leave no stone unturned that may affect the quality of the build. I appreciate you my friend! I can't wait to see how well some of these builds sell around here in Georgia!
Amazing build. The final product is beautiful. The video was well done. This may be my favorite project video ever - and that is saying a lot. Keep up the great work.
Hi Matt, just looking at the way you had to hold the table top while shutting off the saw got me thinking that maybe you could design and make a kick type paddle to hit with either your knee or foot, this way you don't have to release your hands from holding your work while shutting off the saw. I can send you a picture of the one I had designed which works great for me if you want.
I like your shirt, as being saved by God from God for God,is cool to see someone else but in UA-cam showing their way of living and helping others. This is cool. God bless I will be doing this very same piece but with screw from your other video.
Matt thanks so much for that video, you touched all the important stuff your dialog was very clear easy to follow and your work very impressive. I made a chunky farmhouse coffee table to. I made mine all out of nutty alder since where I live nutty alder is about 2.00 a board feet. I stained my table top dark walnut. I used fasteners to attach the table top too & I used dowls 1" dowls to nake the bread board ends. As soon as budget allows I'm getting a domino jointer much easier to assemble than dowls. Thanks again Matt.
Beautiful table Matt! Great application of the dominos - I didn't really know what they were for prior to watching you assemble this piece - you demonstrated the alignment use very well! Thank you!
Hola! 🖐 What an awesome build! I think I would have destroyed half the shop out of frustration when that paint landed on a finished table top but you took in stride, good for you hahaha! 😆🤣😂 Those glamour shots of the finished table in that beautiful room looked amazing, great job. Take care and have a good one! 👊
I can imagine your Christmas list has a track saw on it. Your project was amazing and I really enjoyed it. Hopefully in the future you can do a waterfall side table with dowels so I can get a better idea on how to do it.
I love your videos and I love your shirts 😊 I will say, your array of tools is a bit disheartening 🤯 but the finished product looks awesome and is built to last 🥳 great job!
The domino is going to change your whole game. I would recommend that you calibrate the machine. Mine was of by maybe a 32nd when I got it but thats enough to aggravate the snot out of you when you get to finer projects. There are videos out there showing how to do it. Great video as always, thanks
I always chalk my mistakes up to God teaching me how to be patient and that the original wasn't the way he wanted it. It seems my mistakes always turn out better than my previous design.
For what its worth, I live in San Francisco. 11 yrs. ago, I made a breadboard end for a cafe table. I simply glued the side grain to end grain, not understanding wood movement. To this day, that table is still being used by that cafe. I looked at it closely 2 yrs. ago, and there was barely visible signs of movement. No serious cracks except at the corner of the table, a small change in height, only detectable by feel. My end was about 2" wide and (7/8) thick.
I've been slacking on watching your videos. I've recently gotten my construction business up and running, and been remodeling a house. Probably have two more after this one.
What kind of cost was that walnut? Table looks outstanding. I built one pretty much exactly like it (based loosely on your pine top version) last year. Turned out great and now three other tables have been requested. I think the most important thing you do is wearing the shirts you do. Bringing glory to God in any way possible. I made a second brand all pieces I make receive that is simply "3:16". It's a conversation starter when someone asks what it means. Keep the vids coming.
If I’m not mistaken this is the second video of the walnut top? If I’m right then I was a movement police because in the first video I didn’t see that you used setting 1 and 2 on the dominos which will give you movement room. Guess next time I’ll wait until finish video before I comment 😂. I will restate again that I have enjoyed watching and seeing your woodworking learning process, I always tell people whom I’m teaching woodwork to go and watch you and see how quick and easy it is if you apply yourself. After 40 years of woodworking I learn from everyone even beginners. Keep learning and keep cutting!!
Also, you didn’t use walnut on shelf but as the stretcher because painting? I am same way I just can’t force myself to paint walnut, mahogany or especially cherry!!!! I couldn’t even used for the stretchers because of the paint it would hurt my feelings😂😂😂
I'm not saying your table will split but, go watch New Yankee Workshop episode Bedside Table. He glues the breadboard on to his top, now a few decades ago, I built a couple tables like that and followed Norm's instructions. I about a month both tables split right down the middle...lesson learned.
Great vid as always! Just curious if you've ever discussed the timeframe you give customers for custom projects and how you would go about doing that. Thanks for all you do!!
Great video and explanation. The choice to use douglas fir with walnut is interesting though, why not Ash or another hardwood? I would love a domino tool, very nice to use.
I just made a small knotty pine bread board coffee table top , I glued and doweled it all together , after a ton of sanding , I put minwax stain on it and just got the first coat of poly on it . I think it looks awesome with the grain . My question is do you think it will stay together and look good for a long time . It was kiln dried white pine . I know you talk about wood movement . So I just wanted your opinion. Hope I'm not wasting my time using the pine .
Been looking at jointers and Wahuda looks promising. The price for the Wahuda given it’s build, cutter head and various widths is great. How is the quality and performance?
Had mine over a year and still on the original set of blades. I think it was $545 and that included shipping. Wonderful addition to my shop. Matt has a review on it. Check it out.
Hi Matt: I'm confused as to why you used the dowl? Aren't the boards already joined with the domino's? I'm still a beginner with hardly any experience. Thank you and I love your channel.
Hi Matt, great video. Do you have any tips on how to square the fence on a bench top jointer. I just bought mine and I can’t seem to get the in feed and out side of the fence square. I move one side and the other side moves out of square and I go back and forth. Any tips would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.
What angle did you end up at for your "X"brace center supports between the legs? I assume that angle would be the same as the angles used for the half lap cuts?
Hey Matt great video. Planning this build and I got your plans off your website. What do you think about doing this table in all walnut?? Laminating will take time tho.....I've got some 8/4 walnut at the kiln now and should be ready end of November. I'd like to build this for my wife's CHRISTmas gift.
Honestly, I wouldn’t be too worried about the dominos as you mentioned many guys have done what you did without issue. I would mention though that these breadboards are pretty wide and prone to cupping when used like this. That’s why b.b’s are normally 3-4” wide. if you make them wide like this it’s wise to inlay c channel in the bottom with elongated slots to help prevent them from cupping. Hopefully you want have an issue on this one though. Also, I was curious about why you said the boards were too long for the jointer, that’s not typically an issue, unless you’ve had specific issues with your table top jointer?
Hey Matt, Quick question, what are your thoughts on biscuits vs dominoes and is there and advantage to using one over the other? I really enjoy your videos by the way! I’ve been a lover of creating sawdust my entire life. Following your progress has given me the courage to finally take this “hobby“ I love so dearly and finally work towards trying my hand at building my passion into a business (I’m recently retired). Better late than never I suppose. Keep up the videos and great work!! Keith
Great video bud! Do you have any problem with snipe from the planer? I was given an old planer and it works pretty good except for the bad snipe i get.
Love your shirt at the end of the video. Do you sell them or have a store you would share? I’m building a dining room table and this helps me out a bunch.
Hey Matt, I kept forgetting to ask, but what happened to your delta cruzer miter saw? What made you switch back to your DeWalt? The table looks awesome also! The domino looks like it'd be really helpful!

And not a single pocket hole! Don't know whether to be shocked or proud! Beautiful work, brother!
lol thanks
My man has started with hardwood! That table looks so good man!
Just got a Domino - I'll be sure to adopt the #1 and #2 practice... thanks for explaining it, Matt!
You got this! 👍
Timing is amazing, I just received my domino!!
I really enjoyed this video. You made a fine piece of furniture and I didn't feel like I was watching an infomercial! Thank you very much.

Sweet table Matt and great video keep them coming
Very little wood movement occurs if you seal the ends of all wood pieces, as wood only expands if water gets within the vascular tissue.
Nicely done Matt ... thank you!

Would pocket jig holes be ok for the table tops or would it be best to go out and get dowels?
Am I correct in assuming that the number 2 setting allows for alittle bit of wood movement?
nevermind as i get about 30 Seconds further into the video you said it allows for alittle bit of wood movement
Light weight easy to remove and dump
