Excellent videos, man! I love how you address the FIREWOOD situation at each bothy! When I watch videos of people's bothy adventures, they so rarely go foraging for wood to make fires. Great work!

Ahh, I'm glad you enjoyed it! Yeah, trying to make sure that folk have a resource on the basics (start point, ethical/sustainable use, appropriate resource selection). Essentially, stuff I wish I'd known, really.

I definitely enjoy these! I’ll never get to see it in person, but the scenery is lovely!

Thank you! Sorry to hear you won't see it in person. The scenery is lovely and I do count myself lucky to be able to get out to it.

It's a cracker, isn't it? It'll be amazing in all weather but it was really quite special in the snow.

It was cold but very nice. I wasn't brave/silly enough to hop in the bath, maybe next time!

Nice video, but I've got to say that dead wood around bothies shouldn't be collected and burned either. It's an important component of the natural environment - bring fuel in with you.

Thanks. This is something I'm learning as I go along so thank you for the feedback. I'll add this into the video description and see if I can add a wee bit in the video itself to point that out as well. Thanks again!

As a rookie who has never visited such a bothy I wonder how does it work. Does it work on 1st come 1st serve basis or require sort of booking/applying in advance? I mean imagine arriving in poor weather just about to get dark and find out the bothy is fully occupied.

Hello! It is essentially first come, first served. This is the case with the Mountain Bothy Association Bothies - The Borders Bothy Association Bothies (not featured on this channel so far) are 'locked bothies' have to be booked and, due to their locations, are guarded a little more carefully.
If you arrive in poor weather and the bothy is at capacity it is good practice to make room for more folk - especially lone travellers. It is unlikely that you'd be turned out - especially if you don't have a tent.
Some of them are busier than others - especially during Summer climbing season.
Long story short - if the bothy is full then it is unlikely you'll have to sleep outside. The best sleeping platforms/places might be gone but there's almost always going to be a space available for you. The MBA Bothies - all listed on their website - do not need to be booked BUT it is worth keeping an eye out for when their 'work parties' are - this is when they go out and perform maintenance work which can limit the number of folk a bothy can comfortably accomodate.
I tend to time my visits for when I know they're likely to be quiet but I know not everyone has that luxury.
If you havany more questions then please let me know!

Switched off when you mentioned that damn book, the Bothy Bible.

That's fair enough, this might not be the video series for you in that regard, at least the beginner's guide videos. The book is a lot of beginners' reference point for bothies - for better or worse.
Much like the last mention of it, I was pointing out that the information in it isn't correct/up to date.
It's something that is relevant within the subject matter, although your feelings in it make me keen to learn more about the issues with it. Do you have any links to further articles about the issues around the book? Or, if you have the time yourself, could you explain a bit more (over comment or email)?
Thanks for taking the time to explain as much as you have about it so far as well.
