I texted my ex once, "Is it," waited until I saw him read the message and immediately sent, "Is it a bee?" and he told me he woke up his grandma downstairs he laughed so hard.
Times me and my sister laughed at that. We left her fridge open and thought it was the fire alarm, we were both sober, turned it into is it a bee oh what a laugh 😂
So true! The most important of being a comedic duo is knowing which one gets which joke... Saunders (and Dawn French) were right on the money when they created Patsy's fragile non-chalance as a foil to Edina's unrestrained neurosese.
I mean to say, the character "Patsy" tries to pretend that she doesn't care about anything, but she secretly cares deeply for everyone and everything, (including Saffy) whereas the character "Edina" makes a big show about caring about everything, while secretly (and sometimes not so secretly, depending on how much champagne and pills she's had) not giving a shit about anything.. This is a very old-school recipe for comedy, and they did it well.
I don’t understand how Joanna manages to make that so funny, like I keep rewatching it and howl every time. 😂 they couldn’t have cast a better person for the role, she’s an absolute legend... this and “yeah, cheers, thanks a lot” make me wee 😂❤️
Only Joanna can make that one line the best in the series!! Its her fear in the voice and the ridiculous possibility that it could be a bee hahaha also the fridge shaking with bottles was a beautiful touch!!
I remember this series was such a big deal because it was the first time it ever aired in the US simultaneously. We got to watch it week by week in order for the first time ever, on Comedy Central. I can still remember watching this episode in my best friend’s kitchen, and going around for the next month or two just randomly saying IS IT A BEE
2:04 A rare glimpse of Saffy in a position of power and showing that she can be just as unreasonably domineering as her mother. There's a whole heap of psychological baggage just beneath the surface there that is never spelled out but always present. Genius writing.
Like Eddie and her mom. Her mom is meaner than patsy. Other than with saffie patsy is pretty easy going. I like the tension between Bo and Eddie's mom.
This is one of the funniest shows in history patsy is one of the best comedy characters ever not many characters could last 30 years like patsy and Eddie 😂
lol I love this clip so much! Line by line hilariousness! Never thought the word 'bee' could be so funny! The way she pokes the phone with the champagne bottle and 'Oh, it's a small shoe' - genius!! :)
I'm so glad to see this. I can just think of "Is it a bee" - the way she said it and her expression, and it makes me laugh. It is my current mood lifter when I feel myself overwhelmed at work.
One of my favourite episodes of Ab Fab. And I just love the way Joanna says “shove it up their arse vomit it back out” while doing the actions for it. Just brilliant. And the equally hilarious argument fight scene with Saffy in the same episode.
Joanna is so different from this role, I was shocked the first time I heard her in an interview many years ago. This shows her excellent acting and comedic skills
The line...is it a bee? is funny...real funny...it's the way she says it n it's comic genius....I still laugh when I hear n u think is not funny if u read but when acted especially by Joanna Lumley is hysterical....those two are a funny pair...what a great show...I first saw it in 95 n it was love at first sight...we were all running around saying ....but is it a BEE?? n if people laughed u knew they saw the show n if they didn't they hadn't...I knew this guy who had his entire bedroom done like Patsy, n keep saying sweetie this sweetie that...I thought he was a bit overblown but he was a real Queen n he could do it.....it showed me the influence this show had on some people....classic
What slays me about this is that with the state of fear Patsy is in, you'd expect her to assume it's something a lot more treacherous than a bee. It's so delightful when she asks "is it a bee?"
Never had any idea until watching inside out that katy grin was played by Jane, mind blown - this was my first episode I ever seen of Ab Fab when I was 7 and it’s still my favourite so OTT 😂
I first saw Joanna Lumley when I was a kid when she played Purdey in The New Avengers. I thought she was unbelievably cool. Really, she was the best thing about that show. Fast forward to the 90s and there she is in Ab Fab and oh my gosh was she FUNNY! Just a brilliant actress with a ton of range who seems to be a very intelligent and decent person in real life. And Jennifer Saunders is a genius comedy writer. I still love this show. 😂
I'm hooked on Lumley... I'm Lum+, I'm a Lumster, I'm Lumloid Factor 75 darling... If she was a cake... I'd just take a little slice and put the rest in the fridge... I know that sounds bad... I really do that with cake... OK I admit it.. bad analogy... If JL was a hamster I'd put her in a cage and give her nice seed and a little wheel and... OK I'm really no good with analogies...
Yes 👍 Very nice touch with The Jim Beam Bottle of Whisky on their table 😘 protect our pollinators and damit well it's in the process of being damned . 💗💗🌈😘✨🦅✨😘
With one of my friends, whenever a phone rings one of us still goes "is it a bee?" And "there's not enough vaseline in the world" has made it into the vernacular...
Patsy going from absurd realism to frank absurdity in an instance while remaining constant is something that shows Joanna's talent.
“I met my stalker. He’d got the wrong person” hahahaha
Joanna Lumley is a comedy genius. She also really has a kind and open heart - I recommend all her travel series very much.
And her campaigning for the Gherkas in the 2nd World War
I loved her documentaries she’s very smart
She’s an animal lover too. I think she’s great.
I still Crack up watching this series 🤣
A delightful lady ❤
"Is it a bee?" and "Oh, it's a small shoe." are some of the best lines ever. As simple as that.
I texted my ex once, "Is it," waited until I saw him read the message and immediately sent, "Is it a bee?" and he told me he woke up his grandma downstairs he laughed so hard.
'hello, Stella?'
@@jsb331 and I have a feeling it was an ad lib.
"Must have just nodded off..."
The sound of the champagne cooler restocking itself like at the grocery store is hilarious !
“Is it a bee?”
Thirteen years later it’s still comedy gold.
Times me and my sister laughed at that. We left her fridge open and thought it was the fire alarm, we were both sober, turned it into is it a bee oh what a laugh 😂
This never gets old Jennifer is one amazing writer and Joanna played patsy so well I couldn’t imagine anyone else playing patsy
I love these 2! Hilarious!
Every time we hear a noise, somebody in my house say, "Is it a bee?" No lie.
Love it
can I come live with you please
"I met my stalker, he got the wrong person, he was very nice.."
and she adds "very apologetic". Brilliant stuff! :-)
Jennifer Saunders was incredibly generous with her writing for Patsy.

Robert Hanlen agree she was very invested in all of the characters and was able to develop all of them well including Edina
Robert Hanlen Jen is very smart and knows what she wants out of the charecters and grows each of them.
Robert Hanlen that Patsy rant was. awesome how did she remember all of that and spit it out that way!?
‘Oh it’s a small shoe’ 😭😭😭😭😂😂😂😂
One of the funniest damn lines she ever said. lol
I don’t understand how Joanna manages to make that so funny, like I keep rewatching it and howl every time. 😂 they couldn’t have cast a better person for the role, she’s an absolute legend... this and “yeah, cheers, thanks a lot” make me wee 😂❤️

Hahahaha I want that fridge, FULL.
It's a auto refilling fridge! They showed it one episode. Like a rotating around from the upstairs or basement conveyor belt. That's why the shaking!
"Oh darling you just want someone to LOOK at you sometimes!"
the REALNESS
...for the person that I'm not...
@@charliez077 and what's sad is that line resonates.
everyone in this series was just amazing but Joanna Lumley was the best
"Cheers" …. Love Patsy.
The best way to get rid of a stalker cut off its stalk 😂🤣😂🤣😂

"If you find it KILL IT" gets me every time.
"Darling there's not enough Vaseline in the world!"
XD
One of the most batshit-crazy things ever on that show. One of the funniest bits.
How is it batshit crazy? Lol
2:04 A rare glimpse of Saffy in a position of power and showing that she can be just as unreasonably domineering as her mother.

YES!

I adore the abort abort abort bit. Bring me a knitting needle.
This is one of the funniest shows in history patsy is one of the best comedy characters ever not many characters could last 30 years like patsy and Eddie 😂
Remember when Patsy said, "That potato that we see before us?"
My favourite line of the series. So funny & I don't know why! Creases me up every time. I love Patsy!
"Oh it's a small shoe."
This is one of my favourite episodes
lol I love this clip so much! Line by line hilariousness! Never thought the word 'bee' could be so funny! The way she pokes the phone with the champagne bottle and 'Oh, it's a small shoe' - genius!! :)
Don't forget when she says.... is he from Gabon?
Sorry, Pats. That's a Nokia, no way you can kill it. :p
hahahahaahahaha

That's just it. She could have just said the lines, but she gives so much more.
I could not love Patsy Stone more! "is it...is it a BEE?"
"It's a small shoe..."
Eddie and Patsy is the sophisticated female versions of Beavis and Butthead, and dammit do I love them. 🍷🍸
joanna looks like she had fun playing patsy
Who wouldnt lol
I don’t know how many times I’ve watched it now but it never gets old🤣
Always a good solution for any situation, grab a few bottles of champ.
I love this scene...especially @ 3:04. I just love the face "Eddie" makes when she thinks the bee is on her, lol

A Small Opening is my favorite of all episodes.
Thank you absolutely fabulous comedy GOLD!!! And it's great that Joanna took the lead here, she is SO FUNNY and wonderful and beautiful.

One of the funniest scenes from beginning to end! 🤣🤣🤣

I freaking
"Oh, it's a small shoe" LOL.
The mighty June Whitfield, lunching with la Saunders, saw Jen pic up her phone and remarked, "oh, a small shoe." So Jen used it here.
Eddy: If I was going to strip...
Patsy: NO!!!!! 😂😂😂
"Is it a bee" and "Bombay mix" make me go into hysterics everytime lol.
YOU DON'T WANNA WAP YOUR FANNY OUT AT A PREM
Just watched this (& the subsequent episodes) the other night. I love Ab Fab like an old friend.
What slays me about this is that with the state of fear Patsy is in, you'd expect her to assume it's something a lot more treacherous than a bee. It's so delightful when she asks "is it a bee?"
"cut off his stalk" !!
The way Joanna says it make me laugh so hard I nearly piss myself. Is it a 🐝??
This is one of my favorite episodes. I wish we could see the play in its entirety!
Eddie's jacket crunching 😂😂😂
this is me with a smart phone
they grabbed that champagne tho 😂😂😂😂😂😂
Not enough Vaseline in the world or srcrew on the camera lenses great rant written for Patsy and some great 👍 lines Jen
Not the filth! Not the pigs! Not the pork!
Love how the whole premise of this scene sits on the back of both being grade A'ed of their heads
When she says “is it a bee?” I see Amber Heads testifying 😂
I am sorry to say that....THIS IS ABSOLUTELY FABULOUS!
Hehe.
I remember having that "Ring tone." XD
If I don't age into Joanna Lumley I don't want to age at all
They're just fantabulous dahling 💕
Great writing, performed brilliantly performed by Joanna Lumley
Never had any idea until watching inside out that katy grin was played by Jane, mind blown - this was my first episode I ever seen of Ab Fab when I was 7 and it’s still my favourite so OTT 😂

One has to be pretty darn stoned/wasted not to know it's a cell phone ring😅😅
With one of my friends, whenever a phone rings one of us still goes "is it a bee?" And "there's not enough vaseline in the world" has made it into the vernacular...
Zero Self-Esteem. Poor dear, I understand completely. You're lucky to have such a decadent friend, and always well dressed.
@ReggieGurl04 small opening series 4
the only way to stop a stalker is to cut off its stalk!
I love how they smack the phone with the Champagne 🍾 bottle like cave women
