I haven’t experienced this kind of joy in a theater in a looooong time. You know when the audience ERUPTS into applause during a MOVIE that you made the right choice by going to a theater. You can not recreate that experience in your home. I am so glad they built this film and used Broadway actors and did not try to make everyone look beautiful and use high outrageous homes and apartments. It felt very genuine and true to the cultures. I absolutely LOVED the salon scene one of the most creative things I’ve seen. Man its so beautiful! I had all the feels.
Hey Brent! The creative side of me was jumping for joy on the inside while watching this movie because of the way they reimagined this show in a movie format. And yep, they had successfully managed to make you feel the neighborhood aspect of this by using real people, diff shapes, sizes, faces and was culturally accurate. 😊
Ex Washington Heights resident here(MANY years ago) How absolutely wonderful to see the old neighborhood!! I grew up 2 blocks from the main film site and even spied my aunt's little 2 story house as they walked toward Highbridge pool. I have always treasured the diversity and color of this neighborhood and I'm so glad to see this love letter of a movie.
hi Diana! woohoo great to see another Washington Heights-er (?) 😅 show up in the comments. This movie really made me want to walk those streets and feel the vibe! Def going to when I visit NY this fall ☺️
Watched this movie yesterday. First time seeing a movie in the theaters for so long, and I was astounded by the skill with which they transferred this musical to the silver screen. Probably one of my favorite movie adaptations of any musical ever
I like that this version establishes Usnavi as a community leader in a couple different ways. Obviously he runs the bodega that’s the heartbeat of the block but he’s also teaching those kids and that tourist how to get to Washington Heights. It goes from being a joke in the Broadway show to being an example of Usnavi’s generous nature with the tourist, and his status in the community when he teaches the kids how to get home. That’s a survival skill.
Hi! Yep I agree, and Anthony is perfect as Usnavi. Lin was the first one, but Anthony I feel is more Usnavi in terms of attitude, style, personality and perhaps age. 😁
You know how when Black Panther came out, the Black community treated it like a huge cultural event, dressing up like royalty, etc? I sincerely wanted Latinx folk to be able to do the same for In the Heights but I also don't want people to catch the rona from public theaters.
I went to an advanced screening and am doing another one - it's absolutely possible to be safe and see it. It was my first movie since before the pandemic and I didn't feel unsafe. I ate and then put my mask on, but I'm fully vaccinated so I didn't actually have to. Everyone seemed aware of things like coughing or being too talkative since that's how it transmits, so if anything find smaller theaters showing it so you'll have a smaller crowd. But it's a marvelous movie!!!
In The Heights is one of the best movies I've seen all year!!! The songs were BEYOND CATCHY, the cast was amazing, basically the entire film was a absolute blast from start to finish!!! I got the soundtrack yesterday, and I have been listening to it nonstop!!!
I just saw it at an advanced screening and am going AGAIN to see it at another advanced screening! My first movie since before the pandemic and what a way to re-introduce my love of all things cinema! It is ABSOLUTELY worth the price of admission for just the first few songs and it does not feel like a 2 hour runtime. It's engaging and wonderful and as a first generation Cuban-American woman, I feel so seen. There are just some things that only Latinx writers will understand and they captured so many smaller nuances that I held in tears for good reasons! You'll feel so much and I HIGHLY RECOMMEND seeing it once it comes to theatres - MULTIPLE times if you can! Support the Latinx creators and performers and crew that made this spectacular movie!
Hi Kristina! I’m pretty sure lots of us will be seein this multiple times!! hehe. I am feeling the authenticity in just 8 or so minutes alone! Def will support this team, the cast, the crew and everyone involved in this project. Such a fitting movie to signal the reopening of Broadway, theater and the arts, and our society in general. 😊
@@MakeoJames - movie theaters are not yet back open again here in Germany - thanks to covid 😜 but as soon as they are, this is a movie I so want to watch 😍
It’s going to be rough sitting and not getting up to dance and sing. I couldn’t stop smiling the whole I watched this and basically started crying the second Usnavi showed up on the screen. Totally agree about Camilla, I’ve been listening to Broadway soundtrack for 10 yrs that it threw me off when I heard it first time but I’m so excited and can not wait. It’s so exciting to see other people excited about it, I had to educate some of my friends about in the heights lol hopefully when we go see it they will love it as much as I do.
Hi Melissa! omgosh can you imagine? lol It will be very difficult not to!! 🤣 Yep, Camila’s ‘1 ticket thats it’ is a bit strange to not hear along with ‘Usnavi come over for dinner, theres plenty to eat’ hehe. But I don’t mind it, it still works. 😊

This is truly the first movie musical in a long time that i am SO excited for because I know LMM knows how to deliver what we (theatre people) want!!!!!!
seen a few reactions to this and while some are good there have been others that just don't show the enthusiasm you're showing. earned a subscriber right here
The film is everything we want it to be. As someone who saw the original cast on Broadway and the film, I can say this film is a visual feast and you will leave the theater smiling ear to ear.
Normally I would avoid watching the first eight minutes of an upcoming movie but this was an exception mainly because it's Lin Manuel Miranda and it's the musical that helped put him on the map. Some could say Hamilton did but when in reality it was in the heights. I've never seen the stage show so I'm going into this movie a little blind which is sort of the great thing about musicals is that you go into them completely blind. Recommendation listen to this song at 1.25x speed it's even more amazing.
Hi Nick! I admire Hamilton for bringin in a whole new set of theater audiences, and yes maybe helped put Lin on the map, but with In The Heights, is where he drew the map. I have always felt In The Heights is a far superior show to Hamilton in terms of concept, subject matter, music, creativity and overall production. You’ll have an awesome time with In The Heights! We would love to hear what you think after seeing it ☺️ UPDATE: I just tried your 1.25x speed recommendation and omg! 😅 It added another level of vibrancy to the songs and the choreography! thank you thank you ☺️
The entire team watching it I just couldn’t stop smiling! I just get so excited to see so much representation on screen. And to see soooooo many people in the ensemble just absolutely killing it is beyond thrilling for me! I cannot wait for this weekend!! ❤️
Hey Alejandro! The level of authenticity in this movie is on a level unseen in Hollywood I think, and the creativity that went into every single musical number is just 🔥🔥🔥. You’re in for a treat! I’m goin back this weekend also to see it again 😄
I'm literally so excited for this movie because it's just so cool to see my neighborhood on the big screen! I remember walking home from school and I used to see them filming in the heights it was so cool!
The movie was 🔥🔥🔥🔥!!! I'm kinda new to musicals, but my sister is a Broadway fanatic and she's always tried to get me to watch them, and now I'm regretting not watching some of them when I had the chance!🤣
I LOVED your reaction😁❤️👌🏻 the fact that you were singing to yourself the whole time☺️🥰 It makes me like the 8 minutes even more👏🏻👏🏻 I’ve seen the movie twice already and I’m thinking here I go again
@@MakeoJames it was amazing! the dance sequences were literally insane and everyone’s voices were gorgeous. the casting was great too and i honestly just loved the way they told the story, i’d 10000% go see it again!

Wepa is right! My respects to all of the artists in this production! Lin Manuel Miranda is a prodigy! Loved your reaction! Good vibes always, from NYC!
I'm a white dude from Melbourne, Australia, so not a lot of latino people around. But I saw this on 11th June and loved it so much that I saw it again today (14th June) and took my housemate this time. We both LOVED it. And I'll probably go back and watch it again, for the 3rd time in the cinema.
Love it!!! Had that same cheesy smile you have while I watched it!! I have seen these 8 minutes multiple times. I can’t wait to watch the whole thing!! ❤️
I love the casting for Benny :) Christopher Jackson was lovely in the OBC and I love seeing how smooth and witty Corey plays Benny. LMM is a lyrical genius and the amount of emotion from just a 8 minute clip…? i’m so so excited for this film.
There aren't a lot of huge Broadway fans where I live, so it was heartwarming to come across a video of you viewing these first eight minutes (and yes, these are the first eight minutes of the movie) with eyes that see like mine do. I went to a screening on Mothers Day and reacted just like you (mesmerized, happy-weepy, trying not to sing every line of every song, noticing and then reconciling every discrepancy from the broadway version) throughout the entire beautiful, oh-so-long-but-not-long-enough film. I was kind of glad to have seen it by myself, with nobody there to wonder why I was so giddy, so emotional, so proud--as if I'd actually had something to do with bringing it to the big screen myself. It seemed silly until I ran across your video and realized you might've felt the same way. I can't wait to see it again and again and again. You're gonna love it!
Hey Jana! Nothing is ever silly when it’s something that you like and love 😁 These had been 8 mesmerizing minutes for me haha and everytime I rewatch it, I still see something I missed the last time I played the clip (which is a lot by now 😂) This is such a treat for all of us In The Heights and musical fans! 😊
Hi Krusty Krab! One word: Faithful. They remained faithful to the original material, concept, culture. There’s such an air of authenticity in the music, the characters, the colors. Director John M Chu shared in a tweet that they used real life people living in that neighborhood doing their real life jobs in some scenes. ☺️
And I love how everything is on beat! The water squirts from the hose, the way Anthony skips, even his finger movements on the 96th street lady’s phone! 😁
My reaction was almost identical - singing along, & grinning uncontrollably! And reading the other comments, it sounds like a common theme. When people go see this, I think this movie is gonna blow people away! So excited!
i love seeing someone react to this with the same joy and giddiness that i feel everytime i listen to the songs from in the heights. just can't stop singing along or mouthing the words aahhhhh im so excited to see the whole thing
The only “bad thing” about the movie in opinion was that there was not enough beef between the Piragua man and the ice cream man. I wanted more of that fight. Otherwise I loved the entire movie. The changes they made were noticeable but overall necessary to move the story along for me
i haven’t heard of this musical until the ads on youtube but i watched the movie with my parents and i fell in love, i wanna learn to sing the songs now
I love Broadway, too! In the Heights is one of my favorite musicals - I got to see it on Broadway with Corbin Bleu as Usnavi. I cried watching the first 8 minutes and have listened to the songs at least 5 times so far. You seem like an awesome and chill dude
Riiight??? Gives all of us Broadway fans hope that movie musicals will actually start getting made correctly 😄 Speaking of directors, Tick Tick Boom’s trailer was released today. It’s directed by Lin Manuel and is the autobiographical musical about Rent’s creator, Jonathan Larson. ☺️
Glad you’re seeing it in the movie theater. I’ve already seen the movie and it’s totally worth finding the biggest screen possible. Absolutely wonderful film.
Man I loved seeing the joy on your face watching this! Unfortunately I'm new to this train (hopping over from Hamilton) being from Australia we never had a run of the show here but I'm fully obsessed watching this 8 minutes over and over and seeing Lin talking about it over the past couple years waiting for it!
I just watched the first 8 minutes of the film and it looks sooo good! I’ve never seen the musical fully but I hope to see it one day. This film is gonna be sooo good!!!
@@MakeoJames I finally watched it yesterday and it was SOOO GOOD!!! This movie deserved to be seen on the big screen, especially with these fantastic and amazing dance numbers! And the post credit scene was sooo funny and great. I loved the Broadway cameos. Please do a movie review.

Just saw it today. The first 8 minutes is only the opening of a ride you will not forget! You'll laugh, cry, bob your head your head, sing along and dance in your seat (as well as around the theater if they let you!) It never lets up! It is simply wonderful! I'll go and see it again. DO NOT GET UP AND LEAVE DURING THE CREDITS! If you do you'll miss an extra scene!
The movie is awesome. I just love your reaction. The movie is a rollercoaster of emotions , music and dance. Really cool. Thank uou for your presentation👋👋👋
hey Manuel! Thanks so much 😊 As a poc, I resonated with a lot of what this movie presented and represented. But you’re 100% right on the dancing. My god the dancing! Everything that needed to pop, snap and flick - did!
I remember when it hit broadway and wanting so much to see it then. I went to the movies to see it the other day and enjoyed it a lot. Now I'm already anticipating the DVD/Blu-ray release to see all of the extras!
I loved your reaction 😂😊. I was a little worried when I first heard this was going to be a movie because I am so familiar with the Broadway version, but it did not disappoint AT ALL! I felt the same about Camilla too, but it’s understandable. Have you seen the stage version before?
Hey hey! Thanks so much 😊 Yeps, saw the original cast on Broadway and a couple of tours. Yep I was the same way, a bit ehhhhhh about the casting choices at first, mainly Daniela and Sonny but boy did they deliver!

Love it!!! Had that same cheesy smile you have while I watched it!! I have seen these 8 minutes multiple times. I can’t wait to watch the whole thing!! ❤️
Hi Eileen. hahaa It was 8 minutes of pure fun 😁
I love the casting for Benny :) Christopher Jackson was lovely in the OBC and I love seeing how smooth and witty Corey plays Benny. LMM is a lyrical genius and the amount of emotion from just a 8 minute clip…? i’m so so excited for this film.
Hi Eliza! 8 minutes of pure happiness 😊 This movie is everything In The Heights fans can ever ask for and more ☺️
just watched the film and oh my gosh…. i got teary eyed seeing Christopher’s cameo…literally a work of art
@@elizab9217 dyou see the original graffiti pete playing bartender in the club? 😁
They really did capture the musical aspect its amazing
So excited!
Hi Brett! Already blown away by just 1 song! Imagine how they’ll do 96,000!!
i love seeing someone react to this with the same joy and giddiness that i feel everytime i listen to the songs from in the heights. just can't stop singing along or mouthing the words aahhhhh im so excited to see the whole thing
Hey Caryl! I saw the movie just a few hours ago, and you bet I was just as giddy for 2 hours as I was in these 8 minutes. 😂 I LOVED IT!
I watched the entire movie this weekend…..HIGHLY RECOMMENDED IT MAN!
whats up Jorge! 👋 I already saw it 4 times 😂
The movie is so good! I've watched it three times (debating on a fourth before my free trial of HBO Max expires)!
Also, I won’t lie, I shed a few tears during “Paciencia y Fe”.
hey John! that song is my favorite number ☺️
Omg. I just saw it in theaters it’s on HBO max. I had no idea (Time to rewatch)
@@faketohma hey there! 👋 hehe it is time to rewatch 😁
I was fortunate to get a ticket to a pre screening in Naples Florida and it was AMAZING!!! You will have goosebumps through so much of it 😊
Hi Bobby! Im jealous lol. I was getting goosebumps through just these 8 minutes! 😂 I cannot wait to see the whole film!
I was there, too!
The only “bad thing” about the movie in opinion was that there was not enough beef between the Piragua man and the ice cream man. I wanted more of that fight. Otherwise I loved the entire movie. The changes they made were noticeable but overall necessary to move the story along for me
hey Alysha! I agree with the changes, it actually worked for the story.
I also didn't like that they cut out Camilla from the movie.
@@isaakberghe837 Same here. 😕
I aggressively agree. I would love another 3 songs with both of them.
i haven’t heard of this musical until the ads on youtube but i watched the movie with my parents and i fell in love, i wanna learn to sing the songs now
Hey hey! These songs are crazy good!
@@MakeoJames i went to a showing of the musical close to home and i can save i loved it a lot!
@@itsdomtoo niice! 🤗
I love Broadway, too! In the Heights is one of my favorite musicals - I got to see it on Broadway with Corbin Bleu as Usnavi.
I cried watching the first 8 minutes and have listened to the songs at least 5 times so far.
You seem like an awesome and chill dude
Hey hey Sara! How was Corbin as Usnavi?
@@MakeoJames he was really good!
it makes me so happy to see you so excited and mouthing the words!
Hi there! We need a sing a long version of this movie!! 😊
Damn if this is what John M Chu can do with In the Heights I can't wait to see what he does with Wicked!
Hi MB! Lucky you!! But yep, nothing less than a large screen for me for this one hahha. The sounds, the audience, the energy!!
It's playing on an IMAX screen in my city and i definitely want to see it on the biggest screen possible!
@@ammaleslie509 yesss!! and loud booming sounds!! ☺️
Hi Caroline! thanks so much ☺️ This one is a must see! Totally worth the wait 😊
Can't wait for the blu-ray release!!!!
his reaction is me everytime i watch it
hey lizafaye! hehee giddy all the way through 😁
I just watched the first 8 minutes of the film and it looks sooo good! I’ve never seen the musical fully but I hope to see it one day. This film is gonna be sooo good!!!
Hi Nikki! You will love it! Stay til after the credits when you go see it 😉
@@MakeoJames I finally watched it yesterday and it was SOOO GOOD!!! This movie deserved to be seen on the big screen, especially with these fantastic and amazing dance numbers! And the post credit scene was sooo funny and great. I loved the Broadway cameos. Please do a movie review.
@@nikkis_corner97 wooohooo! Yeps, def big screen for this one. Hearing the music and beats reverberate all around the theater is just 🔥
You are adorable! Randomly clicked on this video and your excitement and emotion was palpable! You even made me get teary and I don't know anything about this musical! Looking forward to seeing it for myself. :)
hello Adventure Jenny! Aw thanks so much ☺️ Let us know what you think when you finally get to see it! 😃
I'm SO excited for thiiiiis! can't wait! At first i was a little sad because if there's no Camila, there's no "Enough" on the soundtrack, and that's one of my faves... But i'm pumped to see what their going to do! Love the vid!
Hey Tiago! thanks so much ☺️ Yep, Camila will be missed, but we have Cuca! 😁
I absolutely LOVE your reaction to this, its like watching pure joy in form!!! Exactly how I felt watching it, I love your energy!!!
hello hello! 😃 thanks so much. Just like pretty much all of us, I had a lot of fun in these 8 minutes! 😁
Hey Laura! Yep Im going back to see it again this weekend! 😁
Damn my cousin, brother, and myself all missed the extra scene. Guess I’m going to have to go and see it again.
It's just a little thing, but cute!
OMG you're so excited...
haha 😂 i was excited back in ‘09 when i saw this on broadway and just as excited in 2021! 🤣
It's only 8 minutes but it's true work of art. can't wait to see the full movie.
Hi Layla! You’ll def enjoy it!! ☺️

i miss Camila 😞
The movie is awesome. I just love your reaction. The movie is a rollercoaster of emotions , music and dance. Really cool. Thank uou for your presentation👋👋👋
hey Manuel! Thanks so much 😊 As a poc, I resonated with a lot of what this movie presented and represented. But you’re 100% right on the dancing. My god the dancing! Everything that needed to pop, snap and flick - did!
96000 is gonna make me lose my mind🤚🏼😆🥺
Hi Molly! Just how Christopher Jackson originally put it, It will be the biggest block party for everybody here! 😁
I remember when it hit broadway and wanting so much to see it then. I went to the movies to see it the other day and enjoyed it a lot. Now I'm already anticipating the DVD/Blu-ray release to see all of the extras!
hey Curtis! this needs a Broadway revival! 😁
@@MakeoJames Agreed!
Say it in the cinema yesterday, took all my energy not to yell "Daaaaaaammmn!" at that last dance sequence at the end. That was on 🔥🔥🔥🔥
Such a party!!!
Wonderful film! What a way to kick off the summer!
OMFG HOW HAPPY U LOOKED THE WHOLE TIME😊😊
Hey Erin! It was pure excitement haha 😁
Can't wait to see it, I do identify myself with this movie as I'm Dominican and I love my race and love Latinos, I'm very proud of this movie and I can't wait to watch it 👏🏼👏🏼
