Bill, you missed some important steps. Under "Rip" there are options which are critical. Choosing the format for the music must match your car device. WMA may not work. MP3 usually works, but you don't discuss that. Furthermore you didn't specify where the files were going...you must designate that the music files will go to your flashdrive.

Hi Steve~ You are a "Lifesaver" (Chicago VII, 1974, dig my handle, I have the vinyl album), you and I look about the same age. Your instructions on how to do this are "spot on", it was easier in that you were working with a Buick, which we just purchased on 11/15/23, your screen in the car is exactly the same as mine. It all worked well, the only issue that I had to figure out was how to label "albums" (which is, of course, how you and I probably label things), but once I got that figured out, well, I already have 7 or 8 CD's loaded into the flash drive, and they ID the album really well. Just so you know, I did this with a throw-away 2GB flash drive to experiment, I will upgrade to one of a larger capacity in due course. I will sort of miss the CD player on this 2017 Buick Encore, but we go with what we got, and I can't say I'm disappointed. Thank you for this post, and Happy Thanksgiving, 2023! But if you put up one of their UA-cam videos against the same song from Chicago, you won't know much of a difference. Go see them if they are in your area, you will not be disappointed. The MP4 file format can easily handle various media types, like text, video, image, audio, etc. The MP3 file format can only handle a single media type- audio. The devices that support MP4 can easily play both- video and audio. And as someone below us pointed out, nearly every vehicle plays the MP3 format. But stick with works best for you.
@@Reap45I don't know what to tell you other than you're using the term "Videos". I don't do videos. I have a 2019 Blazer RS. I have 4 16GB flash drives with over 2000 MP3 tunes on each, all ripped as MP3 "Audios" and have never had a problem playing them.
@@dlkacz I guess 256 GB flash drive is not compatible in my blazer. I read 32gb is maximum capacity which I never knew till today. When I say videos I’m talking UA-cam song videos. We’ll find out when I switch to 32gb flash drive. Maybe because I convert into MP4 files that’s probably why too. My tvs only except MP4s so I’ll have to convert to mp3 and hope it works
If you want the best possible sound quality, then it's probably flac you should choose. or other lossless format. NOTE a format that your car stereo supports
2021 Trailblazer will only play MP3 tracks. None of my ripped songs transferred with Media Player would play. I needed to convert all of them to MP3 format which was another process entirely. All tracks played without a problem on Mazda and Kia vehicles. Thanks GM for making life a tad more difficult.
I just bought a 2024 Chevy blazer ordered online and had no clue it didn’t come with a cd player. I’m so pissed off 😡 all car builders don’t have cd players anymore. These fuckers made my life miserable now. If the flash drive will work it will actually be better than having cds in your car and skipping songs you don’t like. I’m wondering if I have 1000 songs on a flash will it do auto play starting from song 1 and just go to the next one without stopping. If that works it’ll be better not having cds in my truck having to dig through them

You can get a transmitter and a portable cd player and dial in an fm radio station it broadcasts on If you don't want to buy a computer just to listen to your Compact discs. Sounds a lot better off the cd too.

Let's say your listening to a long piece of music - like a symphony. The radio is playing the music from the USB stick. If you turn off the radio - or turn off the car - and then turn it back on again, will the radio remember where the music was when you turned it off? This would be essential in an audiobook or a long symphony or opera. Thanks in advance.
After you ripped all the songs to the computer, then you clicked on some stuff on the right hand side of the screen but you didn't show what you were clicking on.
You forgot to show. that you can choose what type of music file it should be before you press rip. for example MP3, WMA and WMA without compression, or FLAC. if you go on regular MP3 and wma can also choose for example 192 khz or 320 khz

That is great to know I love CD I have a player in my car one in my truck one in my boat and one in my house I don’t care about streaming so I probably won’t be doing any of that I don’t like the idea of tying up my phone that’s why I bought a player and radio to listen to music on already found someone that will burn CDs for me so I guess I will stick with the CDs
With a GM vehicle you cannot change a selection on a thumbdrive while the vehicle is in motion..... you need to pull over to do it .....the Nanny State at work again......... Do they think pull over to a stop on a busy roadway to change a selection is safe?? You could also use a voice command to change things but this is a hassle because I am not a "techy"...... I guess GM will force me to learn!

It pisses me off that they are getting rid of cds because I liked the art work on the covers and other artist information as well as the image of the artist that made the music. With a usb if youre not familiar with the artist, you dont know who they are or what they look like. Its stupid and just another way for big corporations to keep forcing us to buy electronics and other constant upgrades because they only care about money.
You could always buy a Brennan It categorisers, indexes and saves all your cd's to its hard drive - all you have to do is feed it and its ready to be heard or transferred to a usb drive/stick in a jiff!
Nope not at all and cost more money. You need to mount a cd player and where you gonna put it in a new vehicle just set it on your armrest and cds will skip. Doing this on a 1980s vehicle will work lots of spare space. I rather use a flash drive instead of having some company hack up my 80k Chevy Tahoe

Sorry, I am not going to copy 40-50 cds on USB. Besides my computers no longer have CD drives. Installing a car CD player is much easier.

Format USB Flashdrive to FAT32 not to NTFS!! almost every vehicle plays MP3 format. That is the safe bet.
MP3 is the only format I use for ripping because it's strictly for audio.
