I used a thumb drive, recognized by my computer using Windows Media Center. My CD was ripped, automatically, to an MP3 file. I dragged my songs to the list. I touched Start Sync. I removed the thumb drive when prompted. However, my touch screen on my Ford, which uses Sync states: "Verbatim -- No media is available on the selected device." When I insert the thumb drive into my PC, a pop-up window states Verbatim (G:) with a home page that allows me to select Music. Touching Music, I see a list of my selections and I can open a selection with Windows Media Player, so I'm pretty sure I'm listening to the material I recorded. How do I get my Ford with Sync to play selections from the thumb drive?
Thank you for your question. There could be a couple of things. First, put your thumb drive into your PC and use file explorer to manually look and see if there is content on the thumb drive. If there is, check to see what the extension is. Media Player saves songs in a WMA format by default. SYNC will not recognize that format. You need to go into settings and change the format in Media Player. I hope this helps. Thank you for watching!

I have recently had an Alpine stereo system fitted in my vehicle. It has the facility to plug in a USB drive with music on. What I have been doing is basically taking music from iTunes and just transferring it to a flash drive. However, what I'm finding is that the stereo doesn't seem to be able to read the song or the album. So if I scroll through the music I have absolutely no idea what is what until it starts playing. However, after watching your tutorial on how to synchronise the music onto the flash drive, the the format on the flash drive looks different and actually looks as though the stereo should read the songs properly. Is this actually the case?

Great question! The short answer is that you can't. The better answer would be for you t purchase an external CD/DVD drive and plug it into the Mac. :-)
who needs this when you have Pandora and Iheart Radio???? Its 2016-2017 people. I have a big basket of cds in my basement and was going to throw them out until I thought they could be valuable 100 years from now. I even have some cds that are still in plastic and never opened.

Thanks and it works fine. The only problem is that when I play the USB on my home Stereo the songs from the first cd plays and I can skip and listen to any song on that particular cd. But when I try to skip the last song it does not take me on to the next cd. The last song has to be played so that it then automatically goes on to the next cd. Does this happen in all USB drives? Can it be corrected?
how much space will active sync read off one of these. ALSO, if i were to plug in say..just a portable external HD, do i have all that space to use for music so active sync will read it?
Hi Jaime, just to let you know. The 'ripping' of your CD will not affect it at all, it is simply making a copy from your original CD and transferring that copy into another format. Your original CD is not affected or altered at all. Best regards.
Great Video Andy. I wonder if you could help me tho. I downloaded my cd's b4 I watched your video on my old windows 7 computer because it has a cd drawer and my windows 10 does not have that. So my cds all went in audio cd files that say cdda and not mp3 file. So is there a easy way to change the file to mp3 without downloading a program to do it. Thank you for the question Dee. I am not familiar with that extension type, but it appears that the CD's were ripped using iTunes and that program saves music filed in the CDDA format. iTunes does this to ensure that you own the CD for copywrite purposes. I don't believe there is a way to convert them, but I could be wrong about that. I did find an online source called Convertico.co that claims to be able to convert the files, however I don't know about the validity of the site. Sorry I couldn't be of more help.
Hi. Super helpful, if kicks off a little seasickness .... So there seems to be no way to copy from CD direct to USB without copying onto a hard drive too. Is that true? (I'm just trying to copy 15 years of CDs into a digital format using Media Player without jamming up my hard drive ...)
+MyAndyBuck I tried to copy to a jump drive, when I go to the section that lets me change to a new destination, there is nothing there, I select change and nothing happens
+GnaKat11 When you click on "change" a pop up box should appear that allows you to choose a destination. I would bet that your pop up is opening at the bottom of your screen or on one of the sides and is mostly hidden.
Andy, I've ripped the CD to Media Player and I've added the tunes I want to the area on the right for the flash drive - but it says "Connect a device," no matter how many times I disconnect the flash drive and reconnect it. The music already on the flash drive plays with no problem, so the computer is recognizing it. What could be the problem?

Your camera is totally out of focus. Unreadable what you're doing. You did not state how multiple LP's dragged to flash drive are formatted. Are all songs randomly listed or are they formatted by album?
what if I want to "add" music to existing music on my flash drive?, I tried doing it but when I was asked to "sync", it warned me that the existing music on my flash drive was all going to be replaced with the new addition. Car cd player is scratching CDs, . Tried this in 320 kilobits and it sounds very good, don't have to keep on changing the settings for every transfer.
The audio was extremely helpful; the video portion, not so much. Tough to see when it was so blurry.

You could just get a portable cd player and an FM transmitter to play on a frequency over the radio.

forget an 8 gig stick, i just formatted my 500 gb HD for FAT32 and it works with Microsoft Sync!
