@@winter2400 that's got nothing to do with it. Johnson wrote the lyrics which were carried over by led Zep but the instrumentals are near completely different. Johnson can't take credit for the instrumentals but he could for the lyrics, which in my opinion are sang better by plant
Well kinda. But ya got take note of the fact that Robert Freaking Plant used to sing this when he was 19 so there's possible way to even use same scale to compare them. I have to say, when Led Zeppelin did covers of those ancient blues songs, it was so freaking genius and transformative it had to be licensed under fair use according to the law. Damn, they are second only to the man himself, Mr Robert Johnson.
yeah, he can't do Robert Johnson slides or even a mockery of them so no. He's a poser. Page did not only performed the slide but he improved on them and invented a whole new thing you could do with a guitar, based on R. Johnson heavensent gift (really, not other way to describe it, anyone with a more down to Earth explanation on how Johnson was able to just pick up a guitar and fucking do this, is more them welcome to correct me on this) and he would turn into a Led Zeppelin trademark. Besides, Clapton's version makes a lot less justice to the original.
Ol' Robert would agree with Clapton's version no doubt. Eric's got the passion for it and with his chops, nobody can touch his many Robert Johnson reprises! Good God boy you got some soul~!! Thanks Josh for posting
@@silkyjohnston7043 That "crazy" is enough. LZ cover the song their way, and Eric covers it his way. Which is more bluesy... LZ version is great.. But it's more to the rock side

That's a guitar Slide. It's used usually to play in open tunings, for blues... and they are usually made of metal or glass, but this one looks like it's made of Ceramic. :)
I love zep version....jimmy page blows away clapton...his slidin`style at the time it was recorded was miles away from robert johnson and clapton....Page is god!!!
Zeppelin is the king of covers.!!! No band can remake a old blues song like Page and co... Although cream did a good job with theirs. But still..! Zeppelin just knocked them outta the park.. must be in pages water when he was growing up..!!

No way Eric clapton’s cover is the best cover I have heard -of this song - led.zep.’s cover is so bad -it sounds like a jam on the spot -robert plant didn’t sing the lyrics word for word -
Clapton the ever self proclaimed “genuine bluesman” is the most self righteous, pretentious, hanger on in the history of rock. Robbie Robertson comes in a close second. I’m shocked he isn’t using that creepy triangle percussionist and Phill Collins for this crap. This 6 sting bass player has been carrying him since the 90’s. After Dwayne carried Layla he hasn’t had a good song.
Let me guess knowone can do it quite like you music is only a competition for ego maniacs sound familiar what's ya name again who?.who ahh the name sais it all expert wanka 😁🦴👁👀🤑
Been rediscovering the great ‘me & mr Johnson’ album over the last few days… Eric is a true craftsman musician!
Amazing. Clapton just can’t be beat. I’ve been a fan since the beginning but his blues are beyond compare. He sings and plays with his soul!
I'm a die hard Zepp and Clapton fan, and although they both do the song really differently they are both equally as good.
Long live Eric and Jimmy!!
Robert Johnson. He wrote the song

“Sessions for Robert J” is my favourite Eric Clapton DVD release ever !!
I love Clapton's playing always have always will
The whole album was brilliantly observed.
some real tasty chops there Eric.
Great job.
Legendary Mississippi blues artist Robert Johnson first recorded this song. Eric Clapton covered it.
You mean this isn't written by Clapton? I always wondered why it was called Sessions For Robert J.
Clapton is famous for being a guitarist, but he's a great vocalist too i think

fruitcake4t He's also famous for making shocking racist speeches at his shows in the 70's.
Andrew Watt that was 100 years ago. Clapton doesn't even talk to the audience. And I've seen him many, many times. He's not a racist.
Andrew Watt....go fuck yourself, you virtue-signalling millennial.

Robert Plant also sings that verse in Led Zeppelin's version of "Travelling Roverside Blues"
ec does robert johnson justice as usual
,eric is the complete blues man brilliant
holy crap thank you for posting this, great find!!!! my fav song of all time probably
This is one of the best with mr.clapton,t y.
Eric !!!! The Best !!!!
yeah he captures the nuances of Johnson version.
watch the master at work.
I love eric for ever he can play anything❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
He also has top-notch musicians with him
Rest forever Billy Preston

oh my god i love this song

NiagaraTim There is a video of Jimi playing slide on an acoustic with I think a can of Bud.
Robert Johnson does it best
I don't like comparing this cover with zeppelin's cover. Both are so great.
Doyle Bramhall II is great :D
Clapton's sound wouldnt be the same without :)
Super
Trendo tema , versionado por este gran guitarrista como lo es Eric Clapton

Long Live to God!
never been at this Crossroads. Womens in Vicksburg IRON bye my side Robert Johnston making it plain life is Travelling Riverside Blues
I SEEN CLAPTON OVER 200X SINCE THE 70'S, THERE'S NO ONE BETTER, EXCEPT FOR 1 SRV WHO WAS FROM ANOTHER PLANET, SEEN HIM 30X, HE WAS UNTOUCHABLE

Who's doing the slide? Epic!!!
Doyle Bramall on slide 🎸😎
Adore Led Zeppelin version.

Steve Gadd on drums but is that Billy Preston or Chester Thompson on Keys?
and lets not forget about robert johnson....
any idea if this is available on cd?

Is there a tab for this ??.?.? For the clapton’s line
What scale does he play in the solo part?
Anyone knows the tuning from Eric and Doyle guitar's ?! Cheers from Brazil🌠
eu não tenho certeza mas quando o clapton toca slide ele usa geralmente open g a do doyle deve ser open e ou open g

Doyle Brhamall II
How does eric remember all the lyrics. He has sung so many songs there has to be a time where he's forgotten them lol
A monitor

What tuning is the slide guitarist using?
Why is the playlist called 'acoustic blues' when they are electric?
Who's the guy playing slide on the yellow SG?
David Haley Doyle Bramhall II.
Elle Lucius AKA one lucky dude!
Terrific performance from a terrific band. Much prefer it to Johnson's version.
Steve Gadd FTW
I think the best versian is by Myles Kennedy of Alter Bridge, check it out :) This is good aswell though.

I got to ask you do you know if he played Austin City Limits probably this long ago?

dimiaraujo90 Never saw a black one like Doyle is using. Interesting. I have a real Coricidin bottle from the early 70s that I've used for 20 years.

Muddy Waters used one of these back ceramic slides, a lot, especially, in his last days.
Now I have to find one. Although in 38 years of playing guitar, Slide has never been something I've been really any good at.

This more accurate to the original Robert Johnson version . Led Zeppelin’s version was more of a tribute. I love both .
Led Zeppelin were only inspired by the original RJ song. They didn't make a cover, they wrote another song on top.
More integrity in a cat than there is in Led Zep,nothing done for show here
That is laughable
STEVE GADDDDD!!!! :D
This is more of a cover. Zeppelins version is more of a tribute bc they pull lyrics from different Johnson songs and the riff is completely different.

This sound more like funk
I saw him live with Clapton. He was great, so I don't understand what your friend had against him but to make claims like that is ridiculous.
as does the original Robert Johnson
Give me the Zep track of the same title anytime. This is doing nothing for me.
Andrew Watt I have to agree. I love Clapton. But Zeps version is super dope.
i thought it was the other way
I'm a big Cream/Clapton fan, but the Led Zeppelin version is better!

The difference is that Clapton is actually giving the original writer a credit unlike Page.
