  • Hi everyone, welcome to a bonus video in our "Introduction to Galapagos" playlist! In this video, we explore using Ladybug Tools to calculate the shadows cast by sunlight. Here's a step-by-step guide to our process:
    1-Exercise Setup:
    Open the exercise file.
Pull up any PV map and download weather data for a specific location on Earth.
For this example, we'll use Boston.
    2-Sun Path Creation:
Import the CPV file to create a sun path.
Set the analysis period (e.g., June 1st to August 31st).
Define parameters such as location, date, and time.
    3-Geometry and Context:
    Introduce geometry for the analysis.
Use a small test surface initially to visualize the results.
Define context such as dynamic shading geometries and buildings.
    4-Shading Analysis:
    Connect geometries to the context.
Use Ladybug's current versions for the toggle to calculate sun hours.
Adjust parameters like surface location and scale to refine the analysis.
    5-Optimization:
Increase or decrease grid size for faster or more detailed results.
Visualize changes in sun hours and shading dynamically.
Throughout the video, we'll demonstrate how to make adjustments and interpret results, helping you understand the impact of shading on your design. Whether you're optimizing building performance or simply curious about the sun's influence, this tutorial has got you covered!
If you have any questions or need further clarification, feel free to leave a comment below. Enjoy the video and happy designing!
