They are probably looking at their phone. Or it could have been aggression.

It was a BMW - of course it was aggression.

Honestly, if I was a lot of these drivers, I'd change lanes to give you even more room, as that buffer, especially with a lack of rumble strips, doesn't do much.

Ever wonder who would be against having a wall or even those flimsy plastic poles? It could be the Fire Department. Having unprotected bike lines allows for cars to move into the bike lane.
A better solution would be to have a separated bike lane off the road and have a dedicated lane for buses and the Fire Department. We could even paint the lane fire truck red!

Dollars to donuts says their head was looking at their phone, and up their @$$. I see it at least once every time I'm on the road (riding or driving).

Yeah, because on my first driving attempt, I didn't veer into the shoulder or drift off that bad, I only touched the line barely.

Once i say a mandatory driving test every 5 years. with first failure resulting in a restricted license status and if you dont pass a retest in 90 days you lose you liscense for a minimum of 1 years

I absolutely agree. However, in the U.S. at least, Big Auto and Big Oil would never let that happen. More valid licenses (even for people who can't drive worth a d***) mean more cars and more gas sales.

They will pass the test and the problem will persist because this is just lack of care.

The lines end at the intersection so for a small stretch there's no visual indicator. I think they should use dashed lines for the buffer and bike lane at all intersections and driveways to help remind. Or do it properly with hardscaping/separated lanes.

Remember those experiments (in the 70s?) on cats in which, as kittens, they were limited to seeing only vertical lines? As adults, although they were technically able to see other things, their visual cortexes could recognize only vertical lines. Here in Massachusetts, the drivers seem to not be able to recognize lane marlings at all. People often straddle the white lines and bike lane dividers. Absolutely no recognition. [And, they're NOT on their phones.]

Skinner was in Boston, wasn't he? Where were the cat experiments done? Did they experiment on a generation of Boston/Masshole drivers?

?possibly they are looking right at you, there is a tendency to maneuver towards where-ever you are looking, which is why you turn your head into the turn on a motorcycle

It compensates for the amount of cyclists I see in a car's lane, literally right besides a bike lane. I see this literally every single day around my area. Or two stupid cyclists riding side by side on the side of a tight, 1 lane per direction, 60kph street, with the left person INSIDE the car lane. I used to do everything I can to give them as much space as I can, but I'm not about to get into a head on collision with a truck for you, and I am not braking to 15 kph when I have cars coming up at 70+ behind me...
Cyclists LOVE to complain about car drivers... But they never look in a mirror...

Even in this video. You could be further right in your bike lane, but you are riding the left line, putting yourself closer to the cars for absolutely no reasons. You have at least 2-3 feet on your right.

Well, thanks for chiming in here, @MattCantSpeakIt. Here's the thing: a person riding a bike is also allowed to be in a main travel lane (it's not a "car lane"). And though you've decided that peoples on bikes are "stupid" and suggest you don't mind hitting them with your car, it's important to consider that one of the reasons people on bikes move around is because sometimes the bike lane isn't suitable. The reason I'm riding to the left is the because the right side of the bike lane is uneven because of roots underneath, and the debris builds up to the right. If there's a hazard in the lane, I need to be able to move around, and the lane, though kinda wide, isn't great.
It wouldn't hurt drivers to color in the lines.

@@RidingBikesinSanDiego I never said I don't mind hitting them. But I also think it is you putting yourselves in danger. And what amazes me is how little of a crap you guys give about slowing 50 cars down just for your own little self.
" a person riding a bike is also allowed to be in a main travel lane (it's not a "car lane")"
There is a very famous expression that says "Just because you can doesn't mean that you should". Not all laws make sense. You are allowed to use your brain and choose better.

your absolutely right about SOME bicyclists not following the rules of the road, or common sense.
that said, as mentioned the 'car lane' isnt a car lane. Bikes can go there too, legally.
as was just stated, something you don't need to worry about as a driver is the conditions of the bike lane.
The bike lane in my shitty city are covered in gravel from the road.
bikes + gravel = fall off your bike if a car cuts out in front of you from a side street.
If its not gravel, its broken car glass or plastic shards from a collision.
if its neither of those, its broken bottles, or peoples lawn waste, or giant pot holes that never get fixed because they are in the bike lane.

I have never seen a cyclist in a car lane if there is an unobstructed cycle lane
