While it's likely not intentional, considering the circumstances surrounding this game and the character of Shadow, it feels like the lyrics have a massive double meaning. After the critical disasters of Shadow 05 and Sonic 06, Shadow has largely been relegated to being an irrelevant character that mostly pops up in the multiplayer spin-offs, he was lucky if he even showed up in a mainline Sonic game despite being a cornerstone of the franchise from 2001-2006. Even the view of his personality from the general population and even Sega has warped into being something the character never really was. But then... In 2024, Shadow came back in a big way. Not only is he starring in the third Sonic movie, but he's starring in the best critically received Sonic 3d game ever. Then, when we reach the climax of his return to the limelight, it's capped off with a new rendition of All Hail Shadow.
First it was the proper return of Sonic, then the proper return of Knuckles, after that it was the proper return of Amy and now it's finally the proper return of Shadow. I am so glad they're giving all of these characters a revival, the Sonic series truly is back.

No, it gave us a great final boss but the Time Eater is still the true final boss of Sonic Gens. The atmosphere, music, and being two Super Sonics will always carry it.
I still like the concept of the Time Eater a lot. In the context of a big Sonic celebration, I think it's better that the final battle is against Eggman. Plus, the reveal is a reversal of the "Eggman gets betrayed by monster" trope that was prevalent at the time. Also, I'm pretty sure that the Time Eater is the strongest "mech" that Eggman's ever had.

When I heard that part in a Sonic Symphony's video (and the other new amazing parts) I thought "I'd like they release an official song of this version" well, I was expecting something like they did with other Sonic Symphony's versions, for example Escape from the City and Live and Learn. But having it in the game is just another level!! I'm so happy 😭😭
