Not only did they pay better than everybody else they are marching waaaayyy higher than everybody else. NSU is just in a league of their own man. This will always be my favorite show from them. This performance was just flawless and musical. The south never heard a band like this before
COMPLETE BAND!!!!!!! I love the core style drilling technique, and the sound is mind-blowing! Norfolk State really bridges the gap between HBCU (traditional-marching styles) and PWI (core-marching styles). I just wish that they had more invitations like the JSU, FAMU, BCU, and SU.
What I love about the Legion is there uniqueness in style! Including that great sound, great color guard, great M&M, and that great drumline! (not marching upright tenors) Way to go!
I was at this event and it was one the best Honda BOTB ever ... All the bands were tight, but check out the Ocean of Soul from Texas Southern University. Whooosh!!!🌊🌊🌊
Mr. Adams is assistant band director* But either way... you are perfectly right. PIA is a musical behemoth. Adams has the whole low brass section on lock! NSU is one of the best sounding bands of all time, I believe.
I remember that battle i want to say that was my 2nd time seeing The Legions but yes it was a Powerful Battle MoB(Morris Brown)was and still is one of my favor school when it comes to bands(FAMU being the other and my number 1)i went to Redan High school in Stone Mountain(wans't in band but know alot about bands from growing up in the shout and following HBCUs)and Mr.Moore Band Dicretor at Redan said that was the 1st time he seen a band Match MBC Power and be clean at the same time
I agree! I remember going with my uncle to NSU homecomings year in and year out. There was this smooth sounding brother who announced for the band, who did an outstanding job. I wonder whatever happened to him??
Hell NSU was there 3 years in a row 2009 was the frist time since 2006 they were not there but I love NSU sound man it match their name i have much respect for them.
Ok let me set you straight Tigerwarhawk! 1st off they definitely hit ALL of their notes dead on! It's not slipping and sliding its called bending some notes to add style and soul to music. A lot of band can't do it that well and sound like one instrument. Second the euphos didn't cover up the Bones that's why you heard those slides bending notes. 3rdly They only stood out when they had the melody and were supposed to stand out! There is no band period that has their sound or control period!
SO, TRUE...Me being a following and a product of an HBCU, I know most, if not, all of the HBCU bands fanfares/fight or stand songs. Tuskegee can play the hell out of "Come on Everybody" the intro at every game when it kickoffs.
highly upset that they wont be there this year...dont already bought my tickets and all, now im ready to sell them, no NSU and no NCA&T, then i dont wanna go.
They have a couple new ones a year. People just dont want to record those. Why? I dont know. But I do know the ones from your day cant be messed with so why not use them for a SHOWCASE?
trobones r up there, but percussion is the most important because they cary the band;; they hold tempo; provide grove;; during parade inbetween songs, the drummline is still playin while the rest of the band gets a break;;; not to take anything away from the trombones, but the druumline weights the most
They need to get rid of that GARBAGE ANNOUNCER and get the one they had in 2007! He did less talking and was very classy in his announcement of the Legion. This guy was ANNOYING!!!
Here's another ANNOUNCER criticism! Whatever happen to the "Moniker Pause". This is where the LEGION would stop playing which would que the crowd to its now famous moniker. At 1:11 or 1:34 the band would stop playing, followed by Mr Staten's: Ladies & Gentlemen, "BEHOLD THE GREEN & GOLD"! This would give the Maximum Impact of the moniker. It used to be done at the beginning and end of each show. I see now they just play through it. You can tell it doesn't have the same effect. Hmmmmm.....?
Unlike some groups The Legion doesn't change their show for Honda. Even last year th show was one they had been doing ALL year with the exception of the concert tune, which IMHO they could have left out..LOL
In all fairness, that pause for "BEHOLD THE GREEN & GOLD" works wonders at a home game where the crowd knows what needs to be done during the pause. But at an event like this, where MOST of the people there are NOT aware of that tradition, the pause might not have the same affect with only one small section out of tens of thousands of people responding.
to it but people around me was like what the hell are they playing and why are you so hype. Also one of the of the clips of TU somebody ask what song it was and the person recording it said"Neck" lol. The point i'm making is even with youtube alot of people that only see these bands 1 or 2 times a year wont understand the tradition of the program. The only reason i understand it and it took me awile is because i have seen NSU a few times i been around HBCU band since i was little.
spartangirl: If this were the 80's or 90's, I would agree with you. But this is the 21st century. Nearly everyone knows about UA-cam. Also, the shows are repetitive and do not change much now. Observe BCU's 08 performance. Damn near the whole dome knows "Lets Go Wildcats". I sure UA-cam and their repetitive performance of that song helps out in the crowds participation.
Man ever since NSU joined the MEAC and I first saw the band in 2003, they've quickly become one of my favorites. Their mix of corp-style and show-style gives them the identity that no other band can match. And just like last year, they did a great job... ...but they still ain't better than the Hundred....lolol :-P
Famu and BCC has great control but they don't have that distinct rich sound. Tigerwarhawk - you obviously do not know anything about music so refrain yourself from posting any other ignorant comments thank you ;)
I would hate to disagree with you my friend even with youtube people still don't understand NSU tradition. You have to be a band by way of following or beinf part of one for people who just get to see these bands at events like this wouldn't and didn't know what to say. The reason everybody knows BCU "Lets Go Wildcats" is because alot of high schools play that as a fight/stand song so fans are able to join but Behold The Green & Gold" is not like. Just like Tusegee "Ball and Parlay" I was hype..
I was at the Honda this past year and last year with the LEGION made their first appearance. I think what killed the LEGION was their announcer. He was terribly annoying!! They should have had the announcer from last year. He brought a sense of class and etiquette that made the LEGION's performance speak for itself. I can't stand GHETTO arse announcers that feel that they have to do all of that to hype a crowd.
After further review, maybe this critcism should fall on the band or the show designer who should incorporate the pause. Somewhere in time, this has been lost. ??? I'm still hate'n on this announcer though.
This band would be better if they do the following: 1. Stop all that slippin and slidin on the pitches and hit them DEAD ON THE HEAD--in other words, control. That would improve tone quality and pitch center. 2. Stop playing out of balance--particularly the marching euphoniums and mellophones. The euphs are covering up the trombone tone quality. 3. Phrasing. These 3 important musical elements are a lost art in our HBCU bands.
Not only did they pay better than everybody else they are marching waaaayyy higher than everybody else. NSU is just in a league of their own man. This will always be my favorite show from them. This performance was just flawless and musical. The south never heard a band like this before
i loved marching this show....we gave EVERYTHING on that field and i was SO damn tired lol.....PERFECT show!!
I absolutely love Norfolks band. I met a few of them at Battlefest at their university thy are always great.
Why can't we have this Legion now?!! I pray that the program gets back to this
COMPLETE BAND!!!!!!! I love the core style drilling technique, and the sound is mind-blowing! Norfolk State really bridges the gap between HBCU (traditional-marching styles) and PWI (core-marching styles). I just wish that they had more invitations like the JSU, FAMU, BCU, and SU.

can u say a superior mix of cleanliness and power!!
WE OUTSHINED THEM THIS NIGHT
OMG. I have never heard lower brass like that. The dru hill arrangement was beautiful. NSU is raising the bar once again.
I was at this event and it was one the best Honda BOTB ever ... All the bands were tight, but check out the Ocean of Soul from Texas Southern University. Whooosh!!!🌊🌊🌊
Horns killin...even wit all the sick people...great performance! Singin all over "Treat Her Like a Lady" & "Beauty"!
Mr. Adams is assistant band director* But either way... you are perfectly right. PIA is a musical behemoth.
Adams has the whole low brass section on lock!
NSU is one of the best sounding bands of all time, I believe.
you lying this band always sound good love the 101 but this band is really really really good
Thanks for the quality footage.
This is a bit painful to watch.... as I was on the 50 yard line yelling to our announcer to shut the vuck up!!! 😳
The name of this song is "Carry On"
It is titled Carry On.

Beautiful all over!!!

Did you see the precision on the field. All of the shapes and lines are straight?
What I love SO much about this band is their precision!! I wonder what the name of the song is that they drilled to. Does anyone know?
Almost. NSU is up there with both bands.
I have give NSU props, nice full sound ..bones on point...great job!

They have a couple new ones a year. People just dont want to record those. Why? I dont know. But I do know the ones from your day cant be messed with so why not use them for a SHOWCASE?
