Most folks don’t think about how physical these young men and women have to be. Stand in place and mark time high step style for a minute and then think about marching, performing and band uniforms are not the lightest of clothing. Hats off to y’all!
Yeah, this would’ve been after 4 or 5 hours of marching, dancing, and playing in the stands. The only thing that can compare to marching in an HBCU band is training for a Triathlon or being the Navy SEALS. Lol
I agree! They are all so STRONG physically and mentally disciplined too. The amount of training required for this kind of performance is hard to imagine.
Marching band ,means just what it says which takes a lots of physical endurance and coronation keeping in step with cadence of the drums.I served time in the army and knows all about drill marching standing up for hours in parade ceremonies. I always envied the WW2 German army soldiers goose stepping in their parades at times with rifles and combat equipment ,I believe it takes more energy goose step marching than what it takes marching in the U S army, of course soldiers are conditioned, taking nothing away from theses college students who must be in good physical shape as well.
I don't think military precision is the right term to describe this band/line. Definitely no where near what military bands look like and the style they march, play, and preform with they're instruments couldn't be any more different from each other. But I assume what you mean by "precision" is how professional, neat, and clean this drumline is and I'd agree with you there. If you want to see high class drumming but in a more military manners/style, I'd suggest checking Drum and Bugle Corps international (DCI)

Wow. They are fabulous. They've worked so hard. Their work and dedication shows in their performance. The university they represent should be proud if them.
I was stationed at Portsmouth Naval Hospital back in the early 80s. I come from a Jazz/Big Band musical family background. Anyhow there's Julliard, Rochester and Berkley. Been to them all in one form or another. (My wife and her sisters were Berkley, Rochester and Julliard products.) Then there is Norfolk State's Music Program at the top of the heap when it comes to putting out the finest working musicians to be had. The only Non-Blacks I knew there were in NSU's Music School, myself included. From Rock to Country music was represented. Imagine that! The greatest artists gave Clinics at Norfolk 'Soul' University as we knew it and I made it a point to attend as many as possible. Free and open. My wife said it was the BEST musical education to be had. Then again, she and her sisters had quite a few awards playing in Russia and Eastern Bloc nations before the age of 13. Norfolk 'Soul' University, says it right. Norfolk State University, where everybody was an equal regardless of race, color or creed. Best damn music education to be had. I look at this video, the white dude killing it at the toms, a couple more within the band's ranks says it all. They're kings among kings and queens. That band is tops!

You all are right. This drumline is the best black line I've heard yet. They are pretty much on the caliber of a professional DCI line. The snares are so crisp like one man is playing. And the tenors or basses start going up and down the line so fast. I was more than impressed. WOW!!! To see this band is on my bucket list.
A Ceas i agree that they are the best “black line,” but i’m gonna have to disagree that they are on the caliber of a DCI line. All DCI lines are much much cleaner, while playing complicated music and doing absolutely ridiculous stick tricks. I'm from Drum Corps side of things but this is undeniable and fantastic to watch. Drum line is tight!
I loved it! I accidentally clicked on it somehow and glad I did! thanks for posting, don't see any of those type of exits in MI.
BCCBearcatband yup these hbcus
Things have changed so much! Our 1960s-70s bands did little, compared to this show!
These people are super trained and talented !
It’s a beautiful show!
You all are so awesome! You go piccolo, you go tuba.. Your performance gave me much joy! The drummers were unstoppable!
White chocolate on quads was nasty with it!
DA TRUTH Facts

Straight facts! I miss my quad/quint days... Class of ‘00 drum captain... it never leaves you.
One of the best retreat beats I have ever seen. Probably higher quality than the football
Aggie Pride!!!! But that was a sweet performance! Nice job NSU!
Aggie Pride!!!!
Spartan Pride on display!
💯💯💯💯💯💯💯💯💯
If NSU ever gets back to their 2000's size and had a money game against USC I'm there. They'd make USC rethink their band.
This was awesome they weren't playing around shots out to the whole squad y'all were awesome from Mississippi to yall awesome
Straight up African yall! The drums, the movement of our bodies, calling the ancestors! African!!!!!
YOU CAN TAKE THE AFRICAN OUT OF AFRICA BUT YOU CAN'T TRICK ALL OF THE SOUL OF AFRICA OUT OF ONE AFRICAN [ . ]

Jerald Carter LMFAO
What an absolute pleasure to watch and listen to!!! LOVED IT!!
I was in the drum section in high school. It is a hard and demanding skill. Great drum section, they got it together.
You can see and hear the passion. Love it!
A great entertaining band to watch..
I am showing my young kids to continue towards excellence and greatness. Continue forward and finish strong all students!
This my favorite drum line
Superb, snappy performance. A lot of work went into this. Top marks
That was just flawless and beautiful. Yall smooth af wow. Especially those quiet strides at that one point, and that end. Too nice.
Very, Very flawed. Look up Drum Corp International. Corps like Crown, Blue Devils would not take any of these guys - black, white or any color.
I wish I would’ve joined the band when I was in school! So much talent I love it!! Gives me the chills
Thank you for sharing! It felt like I was there!💯💯💯💯❤
