Have you ever thought to edit sound effects for the background? For example if the soldier is writing from camp, you may hear other soldiers talking in the background or wind flapping part of the tent, etc. A sailor writing you may hear water or a steamboat whistle far off in the distance on the Ol Miss River.
That is a very cool idea which we will share with SCOTT if he does not see it here. I’m sure we have contacts who would help with creating those audio beds.
@@CivilWarDigitalDigest there are audio databases with millions of sound recordings. I think perhaps the best way is for someone with semi professional audio or even video gear to record at a reenactment camp. From afar, the recording will sound more like 1863 than 2023.
Excellent suggestion! I AM planning on doing that. I record audio and video every time I visit a historical site, thrice at Gettysburg this year. There is a learning curve to doing this properly, and I do want it to sound as professional as possible, so I'm working on it.
This was absolutely amazing!! Thank you guys for all that you do!!!
Great interview. Looking forward to hearing more letters, Scott. Thank you for volunteering for this very worthy project.
Fantastic!!
