NZXT H710 Case Review: Brute Force Airflow Kind of Works
Вставка

- Not everything needs a highly perforated front panel. Most that do well, though, still have a mesh panel somewhere. NZXT wants to prove that isn't necessary if using enough fans.

The NZXT H710 case has been bouncing around in price a lot lately, and has continued to do so even after filming this review. Either way, it's a refresh of the existing NZXT H700 -- which we reviewed relatively positively -- and isn't a bad case on the whole. We'd advise against the "smart device" model still, but the physical hardware, barring any mangled software, is worthy of consideration in its price point. Today, we're benchmarking and reviewing the NZXT H710 vs. the H700 case, including thermal, acoustic, and noise normalized testing. We're also looking extensively at build quality and differences versus the H700 original case.

Review the corsair spec delta case
+Gamers Nexus Hey! Great content as always. But gotta say I am quite disappointed with most cases nowadays. I've been looking at cases since the 2nd half of 2018 and still the only one that even managed to grab my attention is the cm h500p (mesh obviously). Prices are sky high but there is no real reason to upgrade from a cm haf x. If I do interiors decently, I might be better off making a plastic(/glass if I am lucky) side panel myself. I like the mastercase idea of cm, more customization is nice but prices and availability in Europe are crap(we are talking about side panels sold by 1or2 retailers for 60-70 bucks). Insane crap. Would you be interested in making content for a price/performance champ in the 50bucks and below category?
Do you guys intend to cover more ITX cases? Or is it just not "common" enough for "gamers"? I was going through the channel's video history and it looks like there are very few examples.
why do NZXT cases always look so ugly? its like you might as well just have a painted cardboard box if you want a case that looks like that. could probably get better airflow too since its easier to poke holes in.
David G nzxt are nice cAuse they look clean
8:05 The way you're supposed to do this is to push on the clips from the inside to "unlock" them. The panel can then be easily pushed up. The way that it is being removed here is not correct and would likely lead to breaking the clips. This made me worried so I looked up some more videos on the panel removal and found out the information that way. Figured I'd leave a comment here to potentially help someone.
Thank you
Yeah thanks lol I thought no way nzxt would make something that hard to remove they've always had good design
Gracias
Thanks
Yeah I just received this case today. I figured no way you have to brute force anything on that case. A small botton on the back for side panel and it pops out. Easy to remove from top, angle, constant force don't yank. Second time it's smoother. One of the best case I've worked with. The controller and fan splitter just made everything so easy to assemble with the RGB AER2 fans.. Love it, that and the H510.
Steve: "The smart device V2 deserves an entirely separate content piece"
NZXT: "Uh-Oh...."
stinkyyyyy pooooop pooooopy lalalalala
* sweating Jordan Peele *
They don't care. Their primary customer base can't sit through half a GN video.
There is absolutely nothing wrong with the smart device v2, it does the job as a combined fan controller and RGB hub perfectly well.
The problem is software reliability with CAM, Which interestingly for the smart device v2 doesn't have the issues it has with other components.
@@Lexicon_ "I'm so smart". I've built multiple "i" version of H510i and h710i for customers and it's one of the rare integrated controller that never gave me issues with the software. Just daisy chains a bunch of aer2 fans , connect to controller and voila. And included led strip just makes everything easy. But hey, we're just noob, we're not smart enough to understand Steve and GN. Oh no you great one, we're not worthy because we do not agree blindly with everything he says. He's one of my favorite youtubers and I've the right to disagree on some things. You have the right to be a sheep.
I really appreciate that this review included alternate options for similar types of looks and other performance options. That's a very awesome feature most folks don't include in their reviews. Thanks for the awesome info!
NZXT has consistently made the most clean cases if they made a mesh front panel it'd be amazing.
Pull the front panel off. Done
@@OnlineMadSkillzz2 yeah now I have a fugly looking filter with none of the pizaz or function of a frontpanel.
@@larrisAWSOME have ur temps gone down? i’m looking for a huge cable management case with good airflow. i may just compromise cable management for airflow. i’ve heard it has mediocre airflow. so how good r ur temps? i play comp games and will be running 240hz
@@woobuh2762 get an h500 and noctua cooler for the cpu with a gpu using the biggest heatsink you can find. Amazing temps, and amazingly quiet for an aircooled pc
Part of what makes it so clean to me is the solid front panel. You guys are just crazy if you think it doesn’t have enough airflow. I have 4 140mm fans and a radiator on the front and still has a ton of air coming in.
You are incredibly insightful and very refreshing with your reviews. I think one thing that was overlooked and has been by many reviews of these NZXT cases, is how incredibly user friendly to build in they are. I say this as a first time PC builder, the H500 case was cheap and yet incredibly intuitive. The built in cable management runs, tie down points, and bar down the middle make for a smooth build with easy cable management. You nailed it in the end with stating these are not performance cases, but they aren't bad performers. I'd say they are very much the "do it yourself and look sleek doing it" case.
I got my 710 for $130 on amazon a few weeks back. It's very well made, I love it. Blows my old corsair case out of the water.
One thing to note, the 710 and 710i do have some differences aside from the smart device in the inclusion of led strips and a vertical gpu mounting option on the 'I' version
I love how you still get cases even tho you're roasting most of them :D
I felt like this is a pretty positive review though.
He only roasts them because the cases roast most of his components 😂
@Ashwin Shetty Not really, manufacturers[the true one that design their own cases, and not just order chinese OEM] test their equipment extensively. If they sell a crap airflow case, its a conscious decision.
@Ashwin Shetty Ive explained my point clearly. Yes these companies design their own cases.
It's still valuable feedback because each company have different standards on what's 'acceptable', not even 'good' here. Like the original H500P, they wouldn't design that consciously to be ultra shit. They just think the temperature until GN shows that it isn't.
I got my h700 for $100 on prime day and I'm pretty happy with it, especially at that price point.
I'd really like to see you guys test more of the cases that come with prebuilt systems whether they be from Dell, iBuypower and Cyberpower. Many people end up not being able to piece build and have to use these companies. Unfortunately, there is little information about how good the cases are unless they've already been reviewed.
I really enjoy watching case reviews in 4k @60fps. Is like being in the studio.
I've replaced the front and top panels with custom perforated ones. I've also installed noctua black fans. My case is all black with minimal rgb accent lighting. It now runs super cool and quiet. I had to to spend some extra $$$ but I ended up with what is in my opinion, a beautiful minimalistic and super quiet pc case that's spec'd out with all the top components and makes for a monster gaming and streaming pc.
I like the small additions that they've made to this case! Lotta fixes made for sure even if it has a ways to go before being an outright awesome case, but still!
There's just a few manufacturers that need to take notes on how to design a solid front case. :P
HUE 2 controller seems to work well... I just from an H700i to an H710 and installed my own HUE2 kit. No issues with CAM.. for now. The small changes made to the case are really nice.
Love the content guys, keep it up. Was wondering when we can expect a review of the Phanteks P360X, I like the look of the case but im holding off until i know what the temps are like.
I had the H510i before switching to the H710i duo to my new STRIX 3090 OC .. It's brillant 👌
Noise level is good and my overall temparatures was lowered by about 10c 👏
I did swap out all the stock fans with noctua fans instead (2000 rpm industrial), which are they same I use for my 280mm AIO from NZXT.
The CAM software works 99% of the time and It's easy to use as well .. I use it for light OC as well - Got nothing bad to say about it.
Liking the review. Really though, I like all of the case reviews that Gamers Nexus puts out.
I really wish cases with no front mesh would add optical drive support, though - even a slim drive would be better than nothing. Ah well. Guess my R5 will live to see another day.
Awesome review can we get one of the h210 refresh too? I don’t see much about that case would love to see what you think about it.
"XFX Launches the Radeon RX 5700 XT THICC III Ultra"
😂
the shameeee XD
2 THICC
i thought it was a joke......its not a joke
Wait, that's actually real? LOL
Hope we can find one soon!
Like you said, you buy this case (assuming thermals and airflow are acceptable) because of the aesthetics. Personally, I think the white is fantastic and it would (if I actually wanted such a large case) fit perfectly in my living room.
I have the H700 and my wife has the H710. I'm a thermal freak, so I cut a hole in the top and use a magnetic dust filter for my top Kraken X62 exhaust fans (as I have two X62's in my system), the other X62 pulls in at the front. Both my CPU and GPU stay below 60c (at 144FPS in FPS games and CPU OC to 4.9, ring at 47 and AVX 0 with an i7-9700k and RTX 2080 inside) and my VRMs keep cool with the rear fan blowing cool air in. I love the change on the H710 to remove the glass panel.
I'm still using my NZXT H2. As I often work with different types of media, SATA swaps, SD cards and optical discs, I actually need something with that kind of functionality.
It's a shame that NZXT never built a H3.
firmly in the good enough category, and i think it's a gorgeous case that still performs well enough. also seen some beautiful custom loops in the h700, depending on what i end up doing with my system i might move from a tt core x31 into either an h710/h700 or a phanteks enthoo luxe.
I think the h510 looks much better than this. For some reason I find the same design awkward with a full tower case. Or it could be because of the visible power supply shroud.
edit: you could also look at the o11 for custom loops.
I'm buying this case because of your review. Thanks!
GOT THE NZXT for a month now, im really happy with it!
Using a The Verge Anti-static band ;)
it really is must for case reviews, you wouldn't want to short the case itself in case it doesn't come with the rubber stand offs.
Don't you dare insult my Steve's bracelet
He's not fighting static, he's fighting cancer
I just case swapped+replaced air cooler with the nzxt 240 aio with this case due to size constraint with my old case. New setup saw temps CAPPING at 58 degrees celsius when I was getting 80-83 on rdr2/cyberpunk in the old setup. my setup trick was to ignore the aio bracket on the top of the case and instead mounted the radiator to the front facing fans and then placing the fans that came with the aio on the other side of the radiator making it the meat of a sandwich basically having all fans pushing air to the rear fan(due to the front panel not being open air) never seen a colder build and about ready to throw a 3080 in when it comes in the mail and of course make sure your lines are being aided by gravity so the pump doesnt need to stress too much
Awesome in-depth review, thanks bud. Just what I needed to recommend to a buddy buying a NZXT PC and this model will give better performance overall so it's a go!
Been using the h700i for a while, great case, only thing I'd change would be the thumb screws holding the glass panel kn, quick release would be much better.
Can we get reviews on the Phanteks Eclipse P600S. That would be amazing.
very high quality video my guy. keep up the good work
Thank you for detailed review !!!
Do you have any plan to review for be quiet PURE BASE 500 ???
Just picked up one today for 119.99 on sale (black and white both on sale right now) -- I just really enjoy the look. Willing to give it a shot.
I'm with buildzoid on this matters, they are just aluminum boxes. My idea of a good case is one I can place near the window and open the case panel, since dust is easily removable with air. Or you can just replace it with a test bench or cardboard from the motherboard box.
Built my new system in a NZXT h210. Very happy with it. Super clean looking.
And then rebuilt my old system in a NZXT H510.. the 510 is the odd one out looks wise imo. 710 much better, but I really didn't want or need the extra sizing. But still happy with it.
The clean temp.glass fitting is worth ANY extra cost lol.
Front panel fitment on both is ludicrous, and EVERY SINGLE THUMBSCREW had been done up to maximum torque out of the box!? (both cases)
Fans are junk tho imo, new H210 system is fitted with noctua NF A12x25's, and much better than the 4 (I had spares from the 210) stock nzxt cases fans in the 510. But at what cost.
I kinda wish there were more no fan options with cases. As most users will want to fit there own fans based on budget, performance, appearance
I am actully happy with my H700 Purchase. I would still go for the H700 over the 710. Seems more like a downgrade to me. The only thing I prefer on the new model is the new mounting for the glass side panel. I can live without that though. How can you remove front I/O and call it an upgrade?
if i'm not mistaken, the h710i now comes with built-in vertical gpu support
Yeah but it puts the fans up against the glass which suffocates the card. although if you water cool it might be fine
To further choke the system lol
Just got one H710i, it is really Fxxking awesome. It Balances between noise and air flow.
I'd buy this in a heartbeat if it had mesh.
I wish the cm nr600 had higher build quality and more included fans. I guess I'll get the cm h500, even though I don't love the way it looks..
I have the black and red version, it’s an awesome case
I use needle nose plyers to gently squeeze and push the clips on my H700. Can't get all of them sometimes but it makes it way easier. But yes, it shouldn't be that hard to be begin with, its super violent the first few times
I really wish NZXT would make a more colorful version of the H710. It is so close to doing what I want with color, but just not quite there. It makes me glad my S340 Elite is still pretty damn good. I really haven't liked the use of color on the H series of NZXT cases, and I really want my next case to still be NZXT, but the lack of color like on the S340 Elite is what stops me from nabbing something like the H710.
The standardized fan tests should be updated to include noise levels.
As someone who is interested in building a quiet focused system and is likely to buy Noctua case fans, this information is necessary. In a quiet focused system, the goal is average cooling capability with better than average noise levels. This case achieves average cooling capability with the standardized fans. Beyond that, you have to guess how loud it is.
The conclusion states that there are better cases for noise control. However, someone controlling noise is going to pick up Noctua case fans. My personal guess is that this case would do quite well having a solid front panel to block some noise while achieving average temperatures. However, that is just a guess as the appropriate data is missing.
Thank you for doing standardized fan tests in the first place. Regardless of it being difficult on some cases, it evens the playing field to make cases comparable for a user who is willing to buy their own fans.
Pls test corsair 220t airflow! :)))
I get this case ahead of the scheduled release date and it has been a beautiful build for me. Love it.
Been watching all of your reviews and learning. Keep up the good work even my friends like your channel. I bought the meshify c case and is still in best condition since launch. I love this channel :D
Been waiting for this, hell yeah
I have this black and red version of this case with the H150i Elite AIO. The temperature difference with the front panel off and on for cpu is about 6C
Where can I find the chart you showed around time 11:11. I really would like to see those different cases so I can make a good choice on new case. Thank You.
Lol brute force totally works! I have an old Antec D series case with 3 120mm Noctua iPPC fans, 3 140mm Noctua Redux, 2 120mm Noctua Redux, NZXT 6 channel manual fan controller, and an NH-D15S Chromax that rivals most AIO setups. 👍
I was wondering if you will be change your testing setup at some point to match some more recent hardware? I know that would mean starting from scratch on the comparison list. I just wonder what it would translate in temps with hardware that tends to run hotter these days.
One thing I found with the S340... you are better with Static Pressure fans rather than Aurflow fans... the biggest issue with these designs is lack of fan placements.
When the price drops a little more I'm 10/10 getting the EVGA X299 Dark
Are you planning to review any of the Metallic Gear Neo cases from Phanteks? They are just releasing a refresh of their initial line as well.
I got a PC built from NZXT so I could actually get my hands on a 3080 and I'm very happy with this case. I mostly hate gamer aesthetic so I appreciate the minimalist, clean look.
What AIO cooler did u get bc I’m making a build as well from NZXT
Ok,I'm doing a build for a video editing pc.Last thing I need to is a good case.I like the FD meshify c and the NZXT H700.Which one should I go with? Should I also max out the fan count with that choice?Ive watched a lot of ur review and test videos so I know how u guys feel about mesh screens and air flow. And how often should I clean my new pc?
I have question for you Steve. What do you do with your bench that use for cases once your done with reviewing the case? Do you leave it in the case? Take it out?
A minor thing you left off is that the 710i has support for vertical GPU mounting where the 710 does not. Not sure if that's worth $30 on it's own, but combining that with the USB type C and an RGB/fan hub that has 3 fan channels and 2 RGB ports that supports 4 strips or 5 fans (which can then be split off even further), it might be worth that $30 upgrade. I've not personally shopped for fan hubs, so I'm not sure how to assign a value to that.
I'm personally not a fan of mesh front panels and welcome this design. However with the Phanteks Enthoo Evolv X scoring similar I'd prefer that.
I am so happy with my OL11 Dynamic. For the price it is difficult to beat.
That's the case I've got. Only thing that sucked was having to put in 8 corsair QL fans..... Ouch.
mine literally just came in yesterday, I love it😁
The non I cases do not have built in vertical GPU mounts. . I messed up and ordered a 510 non i on my first build, This info is not displayed well or at all on most item descriptions and was surprisingly very hard to find in the case manual... I made it work. Just thought it should be Highly stressed if your planning a vertical gpu design.
I've got a H400i and honestly I've had no issues with the smart device, it's actually helpful when using the CAM software I control all my fan profiles through it and have them grouped. Same for the LED's :)
For a first time builder trying to upgrade past a 2014 pc now in 2020, i love the look of the 700-710, would it be more cost efficient to get the i variant or diy a few rgb strips into the case?
I was wondering why there is no point on the chart for the test set up in an open air test bench. Would it show what the best thermals could get to? or would it just clutter the charts?
Can you review the Thermaltake V200 TG RGB
Its a budget case with a tempered glass side panel
n i think that the four screw type system to attach the tempered glass is more secure than the one screw type considering the fact that how fragile glass is n i dont want it to be loose at all the rest three corners...
steve you should do a all yr round up, so like top 20 cheap cases or like best performance for its pricing
The 710i I received had 2 led strips installed inside along with the smart device.
are the temps good? cuz i was considering the 710i
I have the white H700 and I love it. Of course I run a 280mm AIO CPU cooler, 3-120mm fans and a 140mm exhaust. Sound doesnt bother me as I use noise canceling headphones but cooling and/or temps have never been an issue.
Brute force works well, I have it’s slightly smaller and discontinued h400i brother. No issues with cooling , but totally brute forced out.
So I should get the Kraken X63 RGB for this case ?
I bought the coolermaster h500m mesh thanks to your reviews and charts, thank you tech jesus.
If nzxt really wanted to up their game minimalist wise they should do what fractal design does with Velcro ties on the back with no cable management thing to get in the way of bigger PSU cables and such. I also think that their name on the front of the case stands out way too much but that's just my personal opinion
Will you be testing some of the mid towers from SilentiumPC? I heard they're really popular in Europe.
I just bought this case because I liked the h510 so much. Hopefully I don’t regret it…
Just bought this case and i love it. Only drawback is that its pretty massive in size, at least to me.
Should try out a full size case then say that. I can't wait to get this cause it's so small lol
Would I see an improvement in cooling if I upgrade from my Corsair Air240?
Nice video. You do not seem quite as fond of the qualities of the case as you were 2 years ago. Has the market changed so much?
Also: Will you ever review the P600S from Phanteks? Major player around 150 €.
7:07. So that hard drive "sled" that you just screw you drives directly into has no vibration dampening whatsoever? At least a sled offer some measure of vibration dampening. Seems a pretty cheasy set up tbh.
Lmao I've never seen sleds that have vibration dampening. Who cares?
7:15 dude in back walking backwards?
kekw
Bruh how u notice that
If your vision was sharper, you'd notice he was just moonwalking. Frequent occurrence over at their office. :-)
More graphs than an entry-level stats course....yup, that's Gamer's Nexus!
My reason for buying this case: Prevention of accidental beer ingress after a spill from above the case is exceptional :D
The black and white case would look great with black/white trident z and maybe a nitro+ 5700xt
Hi everybody! Nice case review! Normally in front you can put 3x 12mm fans or 2x140mm ...
Can you put by any chance 3x140mm or 2x140 an 1x120mm???
there difference between the “i” and non i versions. The I have vertical gpu mount.
The i has a built in fan controller
@8:45 Solution:
Buy the Noctua A12 25mm fan for rear exhaust, it sucks better than the A14s.
WhaTS UP MATe?
I love your videos but i have one question, do you have someone to help you with these long well detailed videos?
You guys should do a review for the Cooler Master Masterbox MB511!! It's a $60 case (at the time of commenting) & it's what I got for my new upgrade, the old case being the hell-forsaken NZXT H440.. Anyways- It's got a really good approach to airflow & aesthetics for only 60 bucks which is why I reckon you guys should give it a chance. My complaints against it are probably nit-picky though, for instance in my circumtance I can't see the motherboard q-code LED unless I get up-close to look BUT that's because I'm using two waterblocks in a full custom loop so that's more of a self-inflicted issue than it is one that's inherent of the case I suppose? I would've liked glass or plexi but for $60 & it's no-frills approach, I can't be happier (the 3900x inside would likely agree too ^^).
does anyone know if the msi x470 gaming plus will fit inside this. i have 2 other cases that it didnt fit in
Epic, thanks for sharing Steve
i have vanilla h700 they need to add little more rear panel depth an of course change the bar angle
Love your content! Keep it coming
How much should I care about thermals when I don’t do overclocking? Planning Ryzen 5900X + 3080 with quite a bit of continuous computing. Should I go with the H710 or H510?
i just bought a Phanteks Enthoo pro M. It's still a great case.
I bought a Cooler Master Master Box Lite 5 RGB...
I'm a god damn idiot, the airflow sucks so much why the hell did I not buy the H510 -_-
My real question though which I don’t see addressed is what are thermals like if you use something like a kraken on your cpu instead of an air cooler...
the top panel as no dust filter. If I mount a 360mm AIO on top, is that suppose to intake the cold air instead of exsahust the hot air? i want to cold the radiator but there is no dust filter. what about it? (sorry for my english)
Finally been waiting to see this
Would love a phanteks luxe 2 review, I really want to know if it is as good as it looks.
honestly, i don't think the GN review would tell you much about the true capability of that case. the luxe2's main selling point is the insane amount of radiator options it supports (and the second system if you're into that sort of thing), i don't think it would do very well with an air cooled CPU and GPU. it's a very big case that doesn't even ship with any preinstalled fans.
Do you think (or could you check if you have them around) the mesh from the new fractal meshify could be easily modified to fit on the front of the 710i (you can buy replacements for them I'd love that front on this 710i), maybe you could even just measure them for me if you do have them kicking around, thank you :-)
Please can you do a case review on a tuf g501, stuck between the tuf and cooler master h500m in which has better cooling thermal properties
