One of the greatest Rock guitarists who ever lived and perhaps the most consistent taking risks and trying new things who has remained truly vital relevant and fresh throughout his career. One of the funniest things i ever heard was by Jeff himself who, after hearing Hendrix said something to the effect:"I wonder if they're hiring at the post office." Fortunately for us they were not hiring.

“To say that Jeff Beck is brilliant is an understatement. Every single note he plays is memorable. I heard “Cause We’ve Ended as Lovers” in high school & I couldn’t believe it- his bends were so fluid, so perfect. He can play with reckless abandon, & be in utter command of the instrument at the same time. He is the ideal that other players strive towards.” Matt Scannell - Vertical Horizon
Jeff darling, you are the BEST no doubt about it. Over the years you have brought so much joy to the world. We all love and admire your "once of a kind" ability and uniqueness on the guitar. Keep rocking. Thank goodness you listened to that Les Paul tune on the radio as a 6 year old.
The Limelight is soooooo strange. I here much lesser musicians names too much and Becks not enough. Great player very cool guy humble and engaging. Something the world needs.
6:19 The more I see of Jeff Beck, the more I appreciate Christopher Guest's brilliant portrayal of the Nigel Tufnel character. Except the real Jeff seems very modest and humble and Nigel incorporated the aloofness that is characteristic of other rockstars, but not Jeff Beck.
Yes indeed. Thank you, Jeff Beck, for all that great guitar playing throughout your career. Your attitude, wit, and sense of humor do not go unnoticed either.
Page first recommended Beck for lead guitar when Clapton quit. Then when Samwell-Smith left the Yardbirds, Beck recommended Page to replace him on bass. Shortly thereafter, Dreja went to bass and Page joined Beck so as to make them twin lead guitarists, as featured on "Happenings Ten Years Time Ago."
As a student of the guitar and one who appreciates greatness, I simply feel that Jeff Beck has not only reinvented what a guitarist can do and what sounds a guitar can emit, but that he has no peer whatsoever. I say, half jokingly, that Jeff is from another planet. Simply put, there's Jeff Beck, and then there is everyone else. He is so far beyond Page, Clapton, and even "newer" guitarists like Van Halen, Satriani, Vai, and others that it's just moot. And btw, he isn't my favorite. Just the BEST!
“Sitting 6 feet away from Jeff Beck while he casually plays something that no one else could get close to has been an extraordinary experience. Jeff’s ability to play the simplest of melodies & make it sound great is unsurpassed. He makes the instrument sing like a voice, & with total apparent ease. “ Steve Lipson - producer
“Jeff plays with a depth that’s unmatched & always riveting. He doesn’t play from ego - he’s not out to impress anybody- he’s just doing what he was born to do. He means what he plays and has the power in an almost Zen-like simplicity to absolutely knock you on your ass.” Jennifer Batten - Jeff Beck Group / Michael Jackson
“I was once talking to Mr. Udo, Japan’s biggest promoter, & asked him who his favourite performer was. Now given the fact that he runs The Budokan, he’s seen a lot of acts. Anyway without hesitation, he smiles and says ‘Jeff Beck.” Simon Napier-Bell - Producer
I am 55 years old i hear all of them Jeff beck, eric clapton, jimmi page, towsenhend.......Jimi hendrix was most inventive and creative and don't miss important thing Jimi hendrix practice a guitar in his short Life during 12 years. So since 1967 to his death exactly during simply 4 years JH revolutioned pop music and statue of electric guitar.
Jeff Beck is a virtuoso Guitar player period! No other guitar player can emulate his signature sound, especially in regard to controlling harmonics. Also, love the fact Jeff never sold out for Pop music/ money, thank goodness for that, otherwise we would not have albums like Blow By Blow, Wired, There and Back, etc. Other noteworthy contributions is Jeff hosting a Tribute to Les Paul another idol of Jeff's, and rightfully so. Thanks for all the beautiful music.❤🎶
Fortunate to see the Ronny Lane benefit show in Los Angeles w Beck, Claoton & Page.. each did individual sets& final jam together to bring down the house. .UA-cam has clips that jog my memory.
uhh, Jimmy Page was ALSO a former Yardbird -- research team, couldn't figure that out despite the evidence in the famous band scene from the great movie "Blow Up" I think it was
When "BLOW BY BLOW" came out - I was just 17 - you know what I mean - it completely changed the approach I had to guitar. The guy just keeps getting better and better too! When Jimi Hendrix was invited to the UK it was BECK who he wanted to meet the most.- Americans are REALLY stuck on ranking things and Top Ten lists which really doesn't work when it come to creative endeavors. Once you reach that level of mastery and talent, each person becomes a unique talent and does what he does best. There IS no "greatest guitar player" - Jeff Beck does things Andre Segovia could never do, and Segovia does things Django Reinhardt could never do - Django does things that would baffle Hendrix who has techniques Dick Dale would be lost at - and Dick Dale does things Lonnie Johnson could only shake his head at etc... ONE impressive aspect is that even thouigh he's never become a pop sensation and there are plenty of rock fans who aren't that familiar with him (though that's been changing the last few years) if you asked a number of talented guitarists about him, his influence and respect is at the very highest margin. When people sit around and name a bunch of great electric guitar players, his name may not even come up that often - but once it does - in my experience - he starts to become THE topic.Metal-heads, classic rockers, jazz fans and blues buffs alike tend to give him the regard that hardly any other player gets that level of attention across the board. .
A well worded with wise precision comment my friend, I couldn't have said it any better myself in-fact not near as good as what's been said here fantastic stuff, I'm an "Accomplished Guitarist" [still learning, always] I have had the great opportunity of joining many "Rock Bands" over the years and performed multi-tudes of Shows, Whilst rising through the rank's so to speak of learning and eventually being very practiced + rehearsed & good enough, to join a working Band, Jeff Beck was one of many, many guitarists I would look up to over the years and still do today, well that's why I'm here I just finished watching a clip of him, "Jimmy Page in-fact Said Himself When Jeff is On, He's Un-touchable" little wonder Jimi was highly sort after by Jeff when Jimi fly to England, No doubt Jeff wasn't disappointed either] I didn't know that. It was guitarists such as Richie Blackmore, George Harrison, Hank Marvin, Scotty Moore, (wasn't much into page, but I should have been) Albert Collins, Johnny Lee Hooker, Freddy King, Johnny Winter, Jeff Beck, Frank Zappa, Roy Buchanan, Rory Gallagher, John Mclaughlin, Al Dimeola, Joe Walsh, Neil Young & Jimi Hendrix (and a host of others) were plenty nuff to keep me busy plus entertained via vinyl, I also learned, borrowed, stole, poached & observed by/at other musician friends and watching Live Bands at bars, I was at a house party back in the early 80's, there was a boot-leg album of Jeff Beck Playing on the Stereo and couldn't believe it was Jeff when told after I asking so, it was freaking phenomenal the Music was Like "SUPER FLOYD SUPER HENDRIX" & fucking blew my fucking Mind either that or I was STONED Off of My Nut & I regret to this day that I didn't either steal the tape or at least get the name of the title of it Chur! -
I recently saw Jeff live at Jones Beach on Long Island . I had FIRST seen him with Rod Stewart and the Faces about 50 years ago ! And in numerous lineups over the years . Having seen Hendrix THREE times and a HUGE list of people over the years , many had an abundance of talent . But in my opinion , Jeff is right there in a handful of the VERY BEST ! He keeps growing and innovating as a musician . Plus , the material he is doing LIVE is on another level ! THANKS JEFF !
Even in 1966, the word was Jeff was the best guitar player. The proof was there in the bold Yardbirds songs that rewrote the book. Now 50 years later, for the umpteenth time, we acknowledge that he is indeed one of, if not THE ALL TIME BEST in rock and maybe in any style. I have seen the proof in the seven concerts over the years. Nobody else can touch him,
I've seen Steve Howe and Jeff Beck from 6 feet away, and many other famous guitar technicians. The thing with Beck is that on a GOOD NIGHT he has this incredible way of playing that shows just pure freedom and innovation. He convinces you that he has found the gateway into meaning, and it pours out. So even if he isn't, for that time you are absolutely positive he's the best ever.
Arguably the greatest electric guitarist in the history of the instrument, not to ignite the billionth "who's better" debate (There are still, of course, acoustic classical guitarists who can blow his doors off; but then there are trombonists who can do the same. This man is a virtuoso of the ELECTRIC guitar and all its unique capabilities, whose level of mastery will be attained by only a very special select few, determined by legions of listeners and decades of history. God we're lucky.)
Which is the Muzak album? I agree that he's not a songwriter but he seems to put his creativity into coming up with innovative guitar sounds and methods. That's his passion, so who cares if he didn't write Starirway?

Without Rob Reiner there would be no Nigel. Without Jeff there would be no Beck music genius musician to be compared to everyone. Keep playing JB
I love, love, love Jeff Beck! My #1 Favorite Guitar Player followed by Stevie Ray - different styles but both AMAZING!
And on day GOD decided to give music unto man and to choose Jeff Beck to do his work

I'm Arabic, and I salute you Mr. Beck \m/
the world needs more people like him
One of the greatest Rock guitarists who ever lived and perhaps the most consistent taking risks and trying new things who has remained truly vital relevant and fresh throughout his career. One of the funniest things i ever heard was by Jeff himself who, after hearing Hendrix said something to the effect:"I wonder if they're hiring at the post office." Fortunately for us they were not hiring.
Eric Gendell Jeff's much more than a mere "Rock" guitarist
Jeff has aged almost as well as his guitar playing, and that's saying something...
"It's in Jeff's hands" - Eric Clapton
MY hero. Such an incredible ear. Listen to him coax a Chicago blues harmonica sound out of his Strat: 0:42
He has to have a third hand somewhere. I can SEE how he does it, but... but... magic.
Beck's such a versatile and inventive player. He makes the best guitar based instrumental music period.
SuperStrik9 Amen. Like I said... MAGIC.
He did, you get a spotted it point.
he does but you need a third eye to REALLY see it. ;)
After all these years...Still, one of the best.
Totally agree but he really should stop putting shoe polish in his hair. lol
My first album was Truth in 68 aged 11 still have it now held together with sellotape.great start 😉
Jeff ain't (one) of the best guitarists....he is ultimately THE best. Nothing can touch this dude...
Francis Ramp absolutely no way!!!
CORRECTION Mojo: ... not "One" Of The Greatest Guitarists. ..... THE SINGLE Greatest Guitar Player Of ALL TIME.
“When the choice for guitar players came up Jeff was my #1 choice.”
“ When Jeff came in all I wanted to do was please him. If he wanted pizza I was the one going to the pizza shop to get it for him.”
“It is amazing when you sit there with a legend, a guitar LEGEND like Jeff Beck & watch him play it is like better than a front row seat.”
Jon Bon Jovi discussing his first solo record
“Blaze of Glory”
beck really is the best guitar legend still alive!
Or dead for that matter.
@@davidfox2832 LOL - many a true word spoken in jest :-)
Really now
“To say that Jeff Beck is brilliant is an understatement. Every single note he plays is memorable. I heard “Cause We’ve Ended as Lovers” in high school & I couldn’t believe it- his bends were so fluid, so perfect. He can play with reckless abandon, & be in utter command of the instrument at the same time. He is the ideal that other players strive towards.”
Matt Scannell - Vertical Horizon
I love the words you use about Jeff. I felt them but wouldn't have found ""abandon" .
Beck is one of the true Grand Masters of the guitar. Incredibly skilled and inventive.
If Hendrix - and I love to copy his riffs, lived to be a million he would never be able to play the stuff on Wired.
+Allan Cerf bullshit!!! nuf said!!!
Jeff Beck could play a piece of string and it would sound great
Christopher Guest said Nigel Tufnel's hair in Spinal Tap was actually designed after Jeff Beck's hair. :)
He, Jimi, Rory Gallagher, Duanne Allman, Stevie Ray , Eddie Van Halen and Ritchie Blackmore are the Masters. Some will disagree. Those are my favs
Steve Lipson - producer
“Jeff plays with a depth that’s unmatched & always riveting. He doesn’t play from ego - he’s not out to impress anybody- he’s just doing what he was born to do. He means what he plays and has the power in an almost Zen-like simplicity to absolutely knock you on your ass.”
Jennifer Batten - Jeff Beck Group / Michael Jackson
so you must have blown your wad by this point....Jesus, that was an embarrassing display of butthole licking.
“I was once talking to Mr. Udo, Japan’s biggest promoter, & asked him who his favourite performer was. Now given the fact that he runs The Budokan, he’s seen a lot of acts. Anyway without hesitation, he smiles and says ‘Jeff Beck.”
Simon Napier-Bell - Producer
Ok at this point it's just scary mental illness with you.
Saw him in austin last September I cried it was that substantial in my quest for the best music out there
“Compared to Jeff Beck I’m just a peon, man.”
Slash
Compared to most players of quality Slash is a speck of dust.
RIP Jeff Beck, and one of my favorite songs he did on the Blow By Blow lp . Stevie Wonders song Cause we ended now as lovers.
Jeff's technique is unmatched just asked all the legends that compliment him the best ever No Doubt👍👍👍👍🎸🎸🎸🎸👏👏👏 He is the🐐
I am 55 years old i hear all of them Jeff beck, eric clapton, jimmi page, towsenhend.......Jimi hendrix was most inventive and creative and don't miss important thing Jimi hendrix practice a guitar in his short Life during 12 years. So since 1967 to his death exactly during simply 4 years JH revolutioned pop music and statue of electric guitar.
I used to tell all those"Clapton is God" guys,to go listen to Jeff Beck.
Augie Doggie My husband heard Beck for the first time and immediately said that he’s better than Clapton. It didn’t take long. He’s a guitarist.
Gotta agree Mr Becks humility is almost as great as his talent!
Jeff Beck's style is like no other 🎸🎵🎶
Fortunate to see the Ronny Lane benefit show in Los Angeles w Beck, Claoton & Page.. each did individual sets& final jam together to bring down the house. .UA-cam has clips that jog my memory.
My favorite guitar player on the planet !
What a legend 💯❤️💔
I don't have a handy quote from a famous guitarist to post, but rather have only praise for Mr. Beck; he's nothing short of amazing.
uhh, Jimmy Page was ALSO a former Yardbird -- research team, couldn't figure that out despite the evidence in the famous band scene from the great movie "Blow Up" I think it was
What he does is quite unique . The sounds he pulls from his guitars is totally original even when he is playing covers .
Man I love Jeff!!!
Great guitarist and such a nice guy.
Consistently “CONSIDERED THE BEST THAT EVER EVER TOUCHED A GUITAR!!!!”
THE G.O.A.T.!!!!!
🤩💜🙏✨✨✨✨✨
Well stated and agreed.
Jeff Beck wasn't in The Faces
@@dang2443 I did check the archive . It was the Jeff Beck Group . July 13 , 1969 . Ron Wood on Bass and Rod Stewart on vocals . You are correct .
@@dang2443 That was at The Singer Bowl , NYC .
Nobody else can touch him,
Have you seen Scott Henderson?
I've seen Steve Howe and Jeff Beck from 6 feet away, and many other famous guitar technicians. The thing with Beck is that on a GOOD NIGHT he has this incredible way of playing that shows just pure freedom and innovation. He convinces you that he has found the gateway into meaning, and it pours out. So even if he isn't, for that time you are absolutely positive he's the best ever.
Arguably the greatest electric guitarist in the history of the instrument, not to ignite the billionth "who's better" debate
(There are still, of course, acoustic classical guitarists who can blow his doors off; but then there are trombonists who can do the same. This man is a virtuoso of the ELECTRIC guitar and all its unique capabilities, whose level of mastery will be attained by only a very special select few, determined by legions of listeners and decades of history. God we're lucky.)
I appreciate Beck's demeanor. A very unassuming man with no huge ego.
Aloof guitar god....
He has ego, but its solid and down to Earth, and based on reality. Thus, maybe, just maybe, it ain't ego but facts.
Having worked for Beck's label mid career.....he has an ego. Why do you think none of these bands lasted very long.
Which is the Muzak album? I agree that he's not a songwriter but he seems to put his creativity into coming up with innovative guitar sounds and methods. That's his passion, so who cares if he didn't write Starirway?
