My issue with growing is: how to appear on people's screens?
The issue with promoting yourself somewhere is that it's usually prohibited in almost every single community.
E.g. in Xisumaverse discord, self promotion is allowed in a specific channel nobody visits aside of for doing their own promotion.
Relying on people searching on a topic of your videos doesn't work properly as well, because it's usually covered by a large channels.
If people will search for let's play, they'll find Hermits or pewdiepies or something.
If they search for update notes, they'll find you or Cubfan.
If they search for redstone, they'll find Mumbo or Ilmango.
I've managed to find 3 uncovered redstone ideas, but there are only that many videos you can make out of them.

Also, in my experience as both viewer and a small youtuber: people usually subscribe if they've stumbled on you multiple times on different occasions.

Posting them to friends/friendly communities actually helps, people know you are more likely to just have a watch
Also tagging videos is really important and having a good thumbnail/title as well

Excuse me for being so blunt but I don't want to put in the 30 minutes it would take me to say this in a really nice way.
I have watched the first minutes of your newest upload.
It is not easy to understand you.
First, the volume is pretty low compared to other channels.
This is not too much of a problem but it would be nicer if I didn't have to turn up the volume all the way.
Second, you talk quite fast and in an accent i do not know well so it is really hard to follow what you are saying.
Since you seem to be an "educational" channel (you share knowledge), understanding what you are saying is the most important thing.
People are lazy. They will not listen to you if it is hard to understand you. They will rather listen to e.g. xisuma who is always really easy to understand.
I am guessing you have the mic up too close and are not speaking loud enough.
Again, sorry if this hurts your feelings or whatever but it is just reality. A video with bad audio will rarely be popular.
Depending on the content I will watch a 480p potatovision video but I will not watch a 4K video with bad audio.

I think rather than promoting your channel, possibly suggesting a video that you've made instead. And i think he meant more like everytime you upload a video you post a link on Twitter, insta, whatever and like allow more people from different social media platforms to see it.

Everything said in this is correct.
I started a little over a month ago and I've joined some communities of small channels starting off. The main thing I see are people making videos to be big and rake in the money while not enjoying themselves. It's incredibly stupid when people say "I hate editing." "I don't want to do this." and so on.
Recording videos, editing videos and UA-cam in general is a hobby until it's a job.
I'm doing all the mistakes. I'm making lame thumbnails, my 'personality' it pretty bland, and I'm sticking to a single series so every video I make isn't a hook for a new viewer.
But I'm having fun and that's what matters in a hobby.

UA-cam has been a really fun hobby and I've been doing it for about 4 years, but last year I started my current channel and when I put effort into topics I'm interested in, I honestly feel very very accomplished with what I spend my sometimes 4-12 hours creating!

I've been making videos since 2012 and consistency in uploading is definitely the most important thing. Very often, looking at my past I can point out many moments when if I just spent a few weeks more on something, uploaded regularly for a longer period of time (instead of wasting time, it's not like I didn't have the time to make videos), I might have gotten somewhere with my channel. I think I'm experienced enough to have some vaild thoughts to share, so for people that are here looking for advice, here's some, so you don't make the same mistakes I did.
You might make really good videos. Like, if you had hundreds of thousands subscribers people wouldn't see the difference between you and others with simillar fanbases. But you are probably not going to make the best videos in the world. There are some channels out there that upload a few videos a year and still have massive success just because they are THAT good, but there's only so many people with such a talent. It's much safer to assume that your videos won't be the most interesting thing in the world for people to watch. This is where consistency makes a difference: a person who uploads often constantly builds their community up, whereas another person, producing videos of a simillar quality, but much more rarely, is not. People will not watch every video they are interested in, because they don't have time to watch it all. People are people and over time, they become less and less interested in something, they forget what exactly was in a video they watched. So being presented a choice, a video from a series they are up to date with, invested in, and a video from a series the episodes appear every once in a while, they will most of the time pick the first one (given both of them are on simillar quality level). Another thing consistency helps with massively is having a breakthrough. Today it is much more difficult to reach big audiences than it was a few years ago, just because youtube is so saturated. Good videos just drown in everything else that is uploaded. It's pretty obvious, but still worth having in your mind: the more videos you make (given that they are all good videos obviously, always prefer better videos over uploading often) the more chances you have of one of these videos gaining some traction. You never know who will stumble upon your video or whether the algorithm picks it up. There's obvioulsy many more things, like how exactly does one make a good video, everything else that goes with it: titles, thumbnails, promotion strategies etc. You have to have all that worked out if you want to be successful, but the consistency thing often gets omitted. Hope it helps :D
TL;DR: Don't be discouraged by the fact you don't have many viewers, upload good videos consistently and at some point people who want to watch it will come.

Ther's a word for consistency: fitness. You don't have to get all that creative to get in shape. And that same discipline helps make consistent quality videos doing the same sorts of things. The creative part is mixing things up a little bit. You love Minecraft? Do different Minecraft things, it's a really huge game when you think about it. Can't play video games well to save your life in front of an audience? Play to the crowd! That's what JSE does, he's a modern jester he is!

In terms of the whole ‘finding a niche idea’ thing, something I’m planning to try is combining two ideas. I’m a Lego channel, but I wanted to originally make redstone tutorials, so I’m trying to combine those, and since there really isn’t much out there that is in both those categories, it should work well. I’ll let everyone knows how this goes, if people still read these!

I'm proud of my 97 subs youtube channel and even tho i don't have alot of experience with youtube i still have one big tip and that is that if you want to be a youtuber then act as if you are a youtuber with milions of subscribers (i don't mean that very litteraly) Make content that is worth subscribing and watching too. But the most important thing is that you enjoy making videos :))

  • @RigzDigz

Great advice as always. Enjoying what you do is the most important thing, of course.
One other little piece of advice: Look at your statistics to see which of your videos is doing better. Do more of that. (as long as you enjoy it). I was making survival vids for my daughters and did a Seed video that people liked, and now I do more seed videos. Do what people like, and they'll watch.

(part 2 of my first comment - adding a bit more thoughts after watching your vid)
compare UA-cam in 2019 with 2016, 2013, 2010 and 2007. I can't do last 2 obviously but comparing 2013 and 2019 is enough. You'll see what's different. People looks at UA-cam as a regular job, not as a hobby anymore. and that sucks, I don't like this situation both as a retired creator and as a hardcore UA-cam consumer

Heck I’ve been making videos for almost 7 years. In fact my sub count pretty much hasn’t moved in 3 and a half years. Did the traditional “Let’s Play” style stuff for years and found myself getting bored and discouraged by the seemingly insignificant results I was getting, so for a little while I said I quit. Came back some months later with the same kind of videos, but just early last year I pretty much did a complete 180 with the content I make, and I enjoy it much more now. To the point where I simply make them because I find it fun! Every now and then I get a video that I consider to be a smashing success (passing 10k views), and the people who watch them always leave me nice positive comments or ask very worth while questions. At the end of the day, that’s plenty for me :)

If you look at the videos on my channel you'll see most of them are sub-100 views. There's one with 1.2k though (the Zero X one). I think the reason why is a collection of factors:
    - I posted it on reddit
    - It's almost totally unique on youtube
    - It's fuelled by nostalgia so people want to watch it when they see it
    - I really wanted people to watch it
Though I don't think any one of those things would do much on their own.
I'm also not pursuing youtuber as a job, so I don't worry about putting out loads of videos. If you are, you gotta be careful about burnout (even now) because it's caught up to a lot of people and can single handedly kill your career.

UA-cam is a zero sum game at this point basically, it has become quite stabilized like many other traditional industries. To succeed now, you don't just have to be good, you literally have to convince a large number of people to come over to you and watch your content instead of something else, by being better.

What are the long term effects of intermittent fasting? Are they positive or negative? I tried doing some research, but couldn't find much information at all. The thing is, I can't help but feel that it'd be somewhat negative...
Maybe it's just me overthinking it, maybe not, I just felt that I had to say all this at some point or another.
Then again, I have no evidence to support my claim, but it isn't a claim, it's just a thought.

  • @JFtech
    @JFtech 4 роки тому

Dude, my editing is spot on (once I was asked to edit ads outside yt cause they saw my channel 😳), I create tech content that's ORIGINAL & CREATIVE (I'm majoring in CS, and sometimes I literally create software products for my videos), stuff that I would watch myself cause it's really useful (not only to me, but to everyone in that nieche). But I'm not growing! I think that's due to:
    1) I'm doing this in Italian, not the same quantity nor quality of audience. I was thinking to switch to eng, but it's not my native language, I wouldn't be as spontaneous
    2) I don't upload really frequently (I have to study for exams, do projects for work, you know)
The problem is that I like to create videos about the stuff I'm passionate about. I don't grow, but at the same time I can't just quit, and that's really frustrating🤬.
If anyone wants to give me suggestions about how to change my videos after watching them please comment here with your opinion. Thank you ❤️

  • @pcislocked

    well, here's my advice;
if you start never give up after you got some traction going on. I stopped doing shit videos for a while, 4 years ago when I was 14, for some exams. Ahhh you stupid 8th grade, I don't uploaded for a few months. after that my 250k views per month for quick shitposts, went down all the way down to the 5k/mo after one year, even though I somehow figured out how to use after effects properly.
I ended up deleting most of the disgusting edits so I'm kinda happy most of my friends did not see that stuff but idk maybe i should have kept it going.
And now I have 9k subs, probably all of them are literally died, went to the university, some of them maybe married. not sure about all that but what I'm sure is they're virtually dead on the website. this channel is acting like I have 200 subs even though UA-cam says 9220. that's why I deleted a few of my last videos, they were under 1k views.
when you have 500 views you can think hey I'm a good tuber we have some people let's keep it going, but you won't think like that when you remember you had 500 views in 20 minutes bak in 2015, when I was like %100 copy of Morty from Rick and Morty, just being more stupid, having no adventures other than playing Minecraft.
and yes my grammar sucks I know I'm not native at least I'm not uploading English tutorials with Indian accent or writing on notepad.
