I honestly had alarm bells going off in my head when I saw that there were practically duplicates of objects just with slight changes. It seems like they were trying to fill up the object count to try to justify it being an expansion pack

expansion packs should live up to the name and expand gameplay and at least 70-80% of items/content in it should be new in some fashion. like the closet should be functional to click and the sim will clean the whole level or home. makes no sense that they added new gym weights as deco instead of actually making it animated and not giving us a treadmill reskin. there should be jump rope and exercise mat workouts by now. we have yoga classes so we should have dance workout classes too. barely any lots too the worlds just seem small and not immersive having to travel to a different world for a cafe
I feel like this and My Wedding Stories should've been an expansion pack together. You go on dates, find love, get married and then explore your new relationship. THAT would've been a great expansion pack. My wedding stories felt a little lacking, and these relationship storylines would've been great together with it

here is the reason for double items that normally should have been one item, like the mirror with and without the photos: pad the object count to hide the fact that they put less and less unique objects in these packs
they do this not just in BB, CAS suffers the same issue. If I remember it correctly there is an item in Discover Uni that is a reskin of a base game item. Like if you place that item on top of the base game item it fits like a glove, just with a different color. I totally agree, they do these repeated items so that they can say they have released 'x' amount of assets. When really it's less than that.

The menu needs a serious update or overhaul. So many items could go in a wrench icon similar to cabinets. Things like window sets, doors/arches, 2 items that are basically the same line the mirrors one with pics and the without. I think this would lead to more complete sets of both windows and doors/arches like cabinets come in complete usable sets. And I agree we need more categories on things as well. It’s so hard to find things when things have weird names instead of having a functional name like “shelf” for example.

Yes, and the wall art section of Build/Buy-mode is a disaster, so many packs add wall decals that only have one swatch, so it really clutters up the menu since you now have to scroll past all the wall decals you never use in order to find one specific painting. Sorting paintings by size (how many tiles they use) would be really useful, for instance. I think this should be the case for basically all the menus, that there are more sub-sections and that the tagging of items makes sense. So if I search for “shelf”, I should get shelves, no matter if their names or descriptions contain the word “shelf” or not.
38:01 Honestly I agree like I feel like it's about time we got some new workout equipment because all we have are treadmills, those weight machines where you pull it towards you, and punching bags, and like every time we get new workout equipment it's just another version of one of those three, and I just don't understand why we aren't getting more, and like with an elliptical for instance they could pretty much reuse the animation for walking up the stairs and when you go on the treadmill with the high incline or whatever like combining those or something would be really good I feel and also adding the weights as clutter but not actually giving us the ability to weight lift is cruel

Totally agree with all the comments above! They could also give us a mat like the yoga one but on which you do push-ups and sit-ups that the sims are randomly doing anyway. No extra animation, just a simple 2-tile “rug” and maybe they could eliminate the weird push-up buffs. If they like recycling so much, they should actually recycle
If My Wedding Story and Lovestruck was combined it'd be an expansion pack. Lovestruck is a gamepack and Wedding Story is a stuffpack (because the gameplay is so broken you can just enjoy B&B & CAS.) They're feeding us bugs and half assed packs which is why Sims 4 is the only game I pirate, I used to pay for all packs until My Wedding Story and now I don't feel mad spending my money on a broken outdated game.
@Knazy I just played with the wedding pack today again, against my better judgement because what's the point of all this dating if there are not any weddings at the end? No time deadline, broken cakes, broken guests, broken goal checklists. It's probably easier to elope, do the court marriage in Tartosa or better yet, take the game pack out or never buy it yourself.
same! The last pack I bought was the werewolf pack and then I was SO excited for Wedding Stories and everything was SO buggy that I started pirating it. EA doesn't deserve any more of my money, I already spent WAY too much on all Sims games (been playing since Sims 1)

I love some of the build/ buy stuff but honestly: This already painfully empty pack didnt even get a kitchen. I mean... theres certain things i expect an expansion to have, a bathroom set, a kitchen set, beds, sofas. I just kind of hope that not many people will buy the pack so ea understands that this is just too little effort for 40€ or whatever currency you have. Also I'm thankful that you address how this pack shouldnt be a full expansion. Also, in germany the price didnt go up at all, its still 40€ as always. I dont really understand why they made it more expensive in some places but not others.
I own all the explanations and game packs (except for star wars) and most of the stuff packs and a few kits. Like I have given EA a lot of money. This is the one expensive hobby I have so paying for packs over years felt worth it. All this to say, I don't want to buy this. The way they put out for rent knowing it was broken, paying simmers for early access, the shrinking of expansion packs, etc. It's all starting to get to me. It's getting to be too much. (I don't think anyone is a bad person if you buy this pack. I would feel bad personally if I paid $50-ish dollars for it)

Instead of the gym stuff they could have put in aerobics class and pole dancing or something, I was just thinking the hanging light that's a circle with the ball light reminds me of those dancing hoop thingos that hang from a ceiling
I suspect their research showed that a lot of gym equipment in Mexican gyms has a particular look to it, and this was the most efficient way to make the gym be recognised as Mexican by Mexican people. And so we get new gym equipment. Everyone is always bleating about representation...well this is the sort of thing involved. They take the time to make the feel of that gym match up to a bunch of pictures of Mexican gyms.
@@sarahgradolph6310 Not sure about gates but peacemaker_ic expands some packs, like adding a variety of windows with the same style and swatches to match different wall heights. Not just windows, kind of all build/buy items (might as well the gates but not sure, I don’t use a lot of gates in my game)

I love how they look and thinking of having lovely fresh air circulating through my sims' houses, but then imagining having those windows in any of James's save games (where thunderstorms are the norm lol) is a nightmare!

Maybe a ‘it’s stuffy in here’ buff as a push for opening a window, some for too cold, tie in with the mold for leaving a window open when it’s raining or dust when it’s windy in Oasis Springs with an open window. Sigh. The game has massive potential, and I agree that even something as simple as a window buff isn’t going to happen.
I always expect full transparency from James which is why he’s my favorite UA-camr in the Sims community, but I’m especially happy and grateful that he continues to express his opinions & speak up. You'd think an EP about love would have way more plants and fun furniture items like new romantic curtains, fuzzy couches with heart pillows, the heart shaped pillows themselves, gym equipment like a multibar station that encourages couples to workout together, way more rug options such as fuzzy rugs, printed rugs, new columns, new finishes for roofs, implementing terrace window seats, adding more trees with lights or heart garlands, adding fruit light garlands, adding new photo album related items, another new job like a sim radio host that plays romantic music, that could also add a radio tower with hearts coming out if it, adding a pantry closet and an actual kitchen to encourage sims to cook together. There were so many options they could have taken for furniture. We just have an empty Ep with some of these items. I'm really unhappy how they missed the opportunity to introduce way more plants native to mexico and actually make a more vibrant environment. instead, we got reused assets..
this "fence door" is someting very common here in brazil, we actual ccal it a gate, you see them as a security door in houses or building tht have a wall or a corridor, not only with normal fences. I have one a home, they often have a special security key that can't be replicated, when you buy the gate they give you like 4 because you can't make copies
@@kupcakez no, if you have a tall gate, you usually have a tall fence to match or a wall, Brazilian houses are very well protected. They could've made a tall fence for this pack
@@kupcakez Not usually! The gates are either as tall as the full iron doors (just instead of full walls, they’re iron and patterned) or just plain walls with an open-patterned strong iron gate door. Usually the houses have this garage-type open area in the front of the house (some partially covered and some having no ceiling) and the house is full walls of course while the garage/open front has those gates and tall iron doors, in my experience in parts of Brasil at least. So it may seem easy to hop or go through but it’s meant to be secure and not be easy to go through at all. Some gates will have spiked tall tops to keep the pattern aesthetically pleasing while serving as an another way to secure the front garage leading to the official house and front doors. Hope this helps! Sorry if it was confusing 😅 Source: I’m Brazilian and am basing this off my grandma’s house outside of a big city.
Thank you for being a big creator and agreeing with the idea of this being game pack sized. IK it likely doesn't change anything EA will do but it nice to hear the people who EA trusts to honestly review their product state their disappointment with the lack of content for the highest price point pack
The doubling up of items, and the thousand versions of the same things gets to me. I agree there should be an exercise bike or something, just mix it up for gods sake, it seems like each pack comes with like 5% cool imaginative things, then its just the same shit not enough swatches.
Sims 3 had similar issues at one point too. While I'd like newer items, I'd like new skills attached as well to justify them. Reskins while sucky means they can be stuck into more builds despite doing the same thing something else we have does. I guess it depends what you are doing in the game that affects which way to lean on it. (In the end all the games suffered item/object bloat, I wouldn't mind paying for cheaper GPs without the items like Parenthood but not everyone would be happy with that either)
This pack should've been combined with Wedding Stories as an expansion pack and add Tartosa as holiday destination so you could have like a destination wedding quest or something.
or just give us two worlds, they gave us two with base game, and we all know the worlds are a lot smaller than previously due to the lack of an open world system🤷

I wouldn't want Tartosa to be a holiday world at all. It's one of the very few European worlds that the game has. They could have made it a 2nd world with the pack or a basegame update though.
I completely agree with this feeling more like a game pack, which is a bit annoying considering (at least in nz I'm not sure about aus) the price for this expansion has gone up from $50nzd (like every single other expansion) to $70nzd, and I really don't think that's worth it!

Yea, as a Kiwi, it's hard for me to justify buying this one full price, between the MASSIVE price increase ($50nzd to $70nzd) and the seemingly smaller amount of features/items than what you'd expect in an EP, this one is a tough decision. I'm not usually one to gripe about pack size - I happily bought Horse Ranch for example, to me, even though I can see a lot of areas where it could have been bigger/better, it was still an EP size. This one feels pretty much the same scale as MWS, especially since it seems to borrow systems adapted from MWS and GrT for it's CORE features. It's a bummer cos I have been either day one or preorder on almost all packs for the past few years, and I don't want to miss out on those preorder items (that bed will be great for Rags to Riches), but boy, is this one a tough decision. Thanks for the overview, great to get your perspective on it before making a decision!

I'm excited for the pack but I agree it's lacking to consider it an expansion pack. I would've liked to see more lots, a new venue type, new type of exercise equipment, more interactions for the new closet, a new photo booth (since the pack is about dating) and a new kitchen to justify it being an expansion.
I think you hit the nail on the head with the theory that a hotel system got cut from this pack. They were probably planning to add it using an adjusted For Rent system but were unable to figure out how to fix the bugs in time for their scheduled launch. Which really makes me wonder why they dont slow down their release schedule to give their programmers enough time to create fully realized packs rather than constantly churning out new content that looks nice on the surface but is ultimately half-baked.

The tupi-guaranis are the largest indigenous tribe in South America and tupi-guarani is their language. But Mexico is not in South America, Mexico is in North America. It's really a beautiful tree Mexico City has them scattered through the city, if you search pictures of Paseo de la Reforma in Mexico City you'll see some of them. They've been part of Mexico City's landscape for a century, I'm sure that's why they included them in the pack. Thank you for adding to my knowledge! I'm going to search for more on the tupi-guaranis
I'm so happy about the jacaranda trees, one of the things that I love the most about spring here in Mexico city, and yeah those water towers are on EVERY roof here. For the most part they are black
I wonder if it will lose the flowers if you have the Seasons EP? I'm from Australia and Jacaranda's are very common here but look completely different when not in bloom during spring.
the issue with tilable things like wallpaper and flooring is that half the time the tile doesn't have the pattern I need for that piece of flooring or wall. And if I'm trying to make a specific pattern, but the game is like "oh sorry we're putting the pattern 1-tile off of what you'd like" so it's just awful instead and I just never use the tileable stuff. Get Together did it best with the wallpaper imo. I can actively select which style from the set I need instead of it just being randomly generated for me...why I also hate the wallpapers with the "built in" columns, its buggy and doesn't work correctly, so I never use them.
exactly. Those looping patterns would be great if you could CHOOSE which tile to start on, instead of having whatever the game decides. Honestly, I just assumed there was some way to switch through them that I just couldn't figure out, like the obscure controls to use triangular quarter floor tiles etc.
I was actually getting a bit hooked seeing so many nods to Sims 2 and it kind of felt like the dev team was trying to create something we really want. But when I heard that this is not only an EXPANSION PACK but also they INCREASED THE PRICE...boy, this is the same price as a Triple A game or four full Indie Games. This is ridiculous.

Why do I feel like they were originally going to add a hotel system with this pack, but decided to cut it after having so much trouble with the For Rent system? 🙃Hotels would've been such a fantastic addition to the game even if it was similar to penthouses/apartments where you have to build it on a specific lot
Hot take: I like that the wooden beams don't disappear. I'm very much over decor items, shelves, cabinets and such not being visible after I've built a cool space and used those things as accent pieces I understand James is speaking from a Sims youtuber perspective where his Sims being visible is important but in my game personally I am yet to be bothered by stuff seriously obstructing my view
The Lovestruck Expansion has EVERY color for each of the Tiny Towners! That's rare! There are Base Game Wallpapers, and they have several shades of the same colors; pastel, normal, dark
This is my best guess for why there's two windows for things that seem like there should be one: In web design/dev, you have identifiers called IDs and Classes. You attach these to different elements of a web page and when you call them in CSS, you applying can apply styling to them. So you can style many different elements with just a few lines of code. But you have go be careful when coding because these things can overlap and affect each other. And the more code you have, the higher the chance you have of breaking something. TS4 is so old with, I would wager, thousands of lines of code. I assume they use identifiers as well and at this point, the code is widespread and easy to break that they just create a different item with a new identifier to keep try and not break something. This is my best guess anyway.
With the rumor about Sim 5 being abandoned, I think EA needs to go even more extensive with quality control and if they are going to stretch Sim4 to the end of time they are going to have to take on the lofty task of addressing the aging coding, organizing it, and completely updating it.
@@zinthaniel9913 I do agree but at the same time, a lot of the same issues would still exist. A very, very rudimentary example would be a person who decides to attend college. Then they get married. But they still like to party with their friends. Then they have a kid. And maybe another kid. And they have a full time job. And then they get get another part time job. And they job an organization for school. That's a lot for one person to balance. Of course, they will graduate. They can trim off the their partying. But there's still a lot of things taking up their time. At some point, you're going to end up double booking and having to make choices about what event you're going to choose over the other. Again, I don't mean this example as a one-by-one comparison. I just mean there's over 50 total packs all attached to one very old game engine. There's only so much clean-up and reconstruction that can be done to help. There needs to be a new game. I think a Sims 5 will be made eventually. If not project Rene, then at some point of time.
the item duplication issue like with the windows is because of lack of oversight and poor management. They obviously didn't need BOTH when one functions as both...and then they complain that they need to make the game run better but constantly do nonsense like this. Of course the game gets slogged down when you're adding duplicate assets for NO REASON. Debug is a great example of this problem too. In EVERY pack there are duplicated base game items that aren't needed as they're base game, but they copy paste it and include it in the new pack to look like they're filling it up when they're not. The lack of matching gates is also a big oversight/poor management issue. Oh yeah we need duplicate windows but no matching gates >.> oh yeah you also need 3 more bars with matching backs! 3!!! jfc
jacarandas are from the southerm hemisphere actually, they are native in Argentina, Brazil, Bolivia and Paraguay, not Mexico that is in the northern hemisphere. Jacarandas also grow in South africa and in Australia (as you said) that are also in the southern hemisphere

I wish they wouldn’t do the alternating wall papers and give them as two different swatches that match as it makes it hard if you want it centered as an accent wall, same with the trim on corners for siding. Country living did it that way with the wall papers and it’s so much better that way.
Yeah, in Denmark the price of an expansion is 299 DKK - $65,24 AUD - $43,6 USD - €40,07 EUR which is really damn expensive, so it’s safe to say that I won’t be getting this pack on launch. It definitely doesn’t feel like the pack is an expansion, no matter how I look at it it’s more of a game pack size 😕 ( And omg the window thing! I got unreasonably upset about there being two versions of the exact same window, except one curves while the other doesn’t. For some reason that got me really mad 😂 I thought the same thing with HSY when they added the curved and non-curved window. Like, why bother adding a duplicate window that’s made utterly useless by the existence of the one that can both go on curved _and_ straight walls?? *internal screaming!* )

Genuinely think they should've combined My Wedding Stories and Lovestruck and then that would've been a worthwhile EP. Also, I can't help but feel like this is just... an update to City Living? I was playing in San Myshuno the other day and went to the Love Festival and so much of that echos what I've seen from this pack. A lot of these features should've been added to a City Living refresh imo. I'm glad you've actually said it though. We can always trust you to be honest about the new packs.
a few of the items just seem like recolours of other packs items... like the triangle shade umbrella thing is in the toddler stuff and another pack I'm pretty sure... and who knows if they'll fix the tagging issues! I'm not a cas player really but the shoes from the paranormal pack aren't under any category either, and they've never fixed that! I think the single tile beam will be cool for outdoor pergola builds and that sort of thing!

The open and closing windows is so lazy. I’m in my first year of learning game design and even I know how easy and doable that is. AND it is basically the same as gates and doors having a closed version and open version. Its so easy and it shows how lazy they can be
I was really hoping that the trailer was just a bad representation of the game, but turns out that it's exactly as expected. Like you said, this is at MOST a game pack... Jungle Adventures and even Outdoor Retreat certainly have more content! Each pack seems to be lazier than the last... thank god we've got 3 new bars though!!!! They more than make up for the lack of gate and the already accumulating pile of bugs... I guess the good thing is that you've got new colourful items for Tiny Town! Yay for more purple for Camillo
I think the beam ceiling items and the fairy lights on the ceiling and wall are probably meant to make/enhance a canopy bed or area, especially with how you showed those curtains worked being off the wall
I’m glad I’m not the only one that noticed this. Those arches and the bathroom tile with the curves, so much good art deco stuff but still not enough to warrant the price hike on this pack.

It would be cool if you could store water in the water tank and see available water levels with eco lifestyle. And if the picnic basket from cottage living functioned with the picnic blanket. Also, it's crazy because they have a window opening animation from the high school years pack. I never really use that window because random sims enter my home through it, but if it just opened that would have been cool too. I've even caught my sims randomly staring out a window as an animation that I can't initiate. So the animations are there, just not accessible to us.
I love the fact that James said this is definitely too close to game pack territory. A lot of us have been saying this since we saw leaks. It was even further confirmed by the livestream and how they…didn’t show much off at all. I like the items in the pack, but that doesn’t justify buying the pack. The rehashing and duplication of items is cheap and lazy. Yeah, we _totally_ need *more* bars and the same mirror twice, one just with rando polaroids. We don’t need the same exercise equipment. Why aren’t the dumbbells functional? If there was no world or a slightly smaller one minus one neighborhood, it’s a game pack

This pack reminds me of seasons and growing together. Most of its gameplay is background type stuff. It will entirely alter how I play the game, but it doesn't stand out the same way horses or cats and dogs or get to rent features do. But it will forever change how relationships work. Since it's changing an already existing feature rather than adding something new, most people don't see it as an expansion.
I audibly gasped when I saw James graced us with a random unscheduled video in the middle of the day!? (In the US) ... and I thought, what did we do to deserve this?! But now... I'm realizing now it's because of the new pack and the limitations on the timelines they have to review it before it comes out for us and everyone else is releasing theirs now too. Lmaoooo. Oh well, I'm still excited as ever.

expansion packs should live up to the name and expand gameplay and at least 70-80% of items/content in it should be new in some fashion. like the closet should be functional to click and the sim will clean the whole level or home. makes no sense that they added new gym weights as deco instead of actually making it animated and not giving us a treadmill reskin. there should be jump rope and exercise mat workouts by now. we have yoga classes so we should have dance workout classes too. barely any lots too the worlds just seem small and not immersive having to travel to a different world for a cafe

here is the reason for double items that normally should have been one item, like the mirror with and without the photos: pad the object count to hide the fact that they put less and less unique objects in these packs
if pictures your sims takes could slot to the mirror that would be cool, but no.... duplicate of the same object instead
they do this not just in BB, CAS suffers the same issue. If I remember it correctly there is an item in Discover Uni that is a reskin of a base game item. Like if you place that item on top of the base game item it fits like a glove, just with a different color. I totally agree, they do these repeated items so that they can say they have released 'x' amount of assets. When really it's less than that.

The menu needs a serious update or overhaul. So many items could go in a wrench icon similar to cabinets. Things like window sets, doors/arches, 2 items that are basically the same line the mirrors one with pics and the without. I think this would lead to more complete sets of both windows and doors/arches like cabinets come in complete usable sets.
And I agree we need more categories on things as well. It’s so hard to find things when things have weird names instead of having a functional name like “shelf” for example.
It would even be cool to have even furniture sets that way. Like matching bedroom or living room furniture. Ya know? I feel like it’s so hard to find things and the amount of items with all the packs triggers decision paralysis for my adhd even with the better build buy mod.

Yes, and the wall art section of Build/Buy-mode is a disaster, so many packs add wall decals that only have one swatch, so it really clutters up the menu since you now have to scroll past all the wall decals you never use in order to find one specific painting. Sorting paintings by size (how many tiles they use) would be really useful, for instance. I think this should be the case for basically all the menus, that there are more sub-sections and that the tagging of items makes sense. So if I search for “shelf”, I should get shelves, no matter if their names or descriptions contain the word “shelf” or not.

Totally agree with all the comments above! They could also give us a mat like the yoga one but on which you do push-ups and sit-ups that the sims are randomly doing anyway. No extra animation, just a simple 2-tile “rug” and maybe they could eliminate the weird push-up buffs. If they like recycling so much, they should actually recycle

If My Wedding Story and Lovestruck was combined it'd be an expansion pack. Lovestruck is a gamepack and Wedding Story is a stuffpack (because the gameplay is so broken you can just enjoy B&B & CAS.) They're feeding us bugs and half assed packs which is why Sims 4 is the only game I pirate, I used to pay for all packs until My Wedding Story and now I don't feel mad spending my money on a broken outdated game.

I love some of the build/ buy stuff but honestly: This already painfully empty pack didnt even get a kitchen. I mean... theres certain things i expect an expansion to have, a bathroom set, a kitchen set, beds, sofas.

I own all the explanations and game packs (except for star wars) and most of the stuff packs and a few kits. Like I have given EA a lot of money. This is the one expensive hobby I have so paying for packs over years felt worth it.
All this to say, I don't want to buy this. The way they put out for rent knowing it was broken, paying simmers for early access, the shrinking of expansion packs, etc. It's all starting to get to me.

I suspect their research showed that a lot of gym equipment in Mexican gyms has a particular look to it, and this was the most efficient way to make the gym be recognised as Mexican by Mexican people. And so we get new gym equipment.
Everyone is always bleating about representation...well this is the sort of thing involved. They take the time to make the feel of that gym match up to a bunch of pictures of Mexican gyms.
They are too lazy and the spagetti coding in the game can't really hold too many more animations.
Can't wait for a modder to expand this pack to fix the gate issues, add more color swatches and add smaller windows etc.

You'd think an EP about love would have way more plants and fun furniture items like new romantic curtains, fuzzy couches with heart pillows, the heart shaped pillows themselves, gym equipment like a multibar station that encourages couples to workout together, way more rug options such as fuzzy rugs, printed rugs, new columns, new finishes for roofs, implementing terrace window seats, adding more trees with lights or heart garlands, adding fruit light garlands, adding new photo album related items, another new job like a sim radio host that plays romantic music, that could also add a radio tower with hearts coming out if it, adding a pantry closet and an actual kitchen to encourage sims to cook together. There were so many options they could have taken for furniture. We just have an empty Ep with some of these items. I'm really unhappy how they missed the opportunity to introduce way more plants native to mexico and actually make a more vibrant environment. instead, we got reused assets..
this "fence door" is someting very common here in brazil, we actual ccal it a gate, you see them as a security door in houses or building tht have a wall or a corridor, not only with normal fences. I have one a home, they often have a special security key that can't be replicated, when you buy the gate they give you like 4 because you can't make copies

@@kupcakez no, if you have a tall gate, you usually have a tall fence to match or a wall, Brazilian houses are very well protected. They could've made a tall fence for this pack
@@kupcakez Not usually! The gates are either as tall as the full iron doors (just instead of full walls, they’re iron and patterned) or just plain walls with an open-patterned strong iron gate door. Usually the houses have this garage-type open area in the front of the house (some partially covered and some having no ceiling) and the house is full walls of course while the garage/open front has those gates and tall iron doors, in my experience in parts of Brasil at least. So it may seem easy to hop or go through but it’s meant to be secure and not be easy to go through at all. Some gates will have spiked tall tops to keep the pattern aesthetically pleasing while serving as an another way to secure the front garage leading to the official house and front doors. Hope this helps! Sorry if it was confusing 😅 Source: I’m Brazilian and am basing this off my grandma’s house outside of a big city.

IK it likely doesn't change anything EA will do but it nice to hear the people who EA trusts to honestly review their product state their disappointment with the lack of content for the highest price point pack
The doubling up of items, and the thousand versions of the same things gets to me. I agree there should be an exercise bike or something, just mix it up for gods sake, it seems like each pack comes with like 5% cool imaginative things, then its just the same shit not enough swatches.
Sims 3 had similar issues at one point too. While I'd like newer items, I'd like new skills attached as well to justify them. Reskins while sucky means they can be stuck into more builds despite doing the same thing something else we have does. I guess it depends what you are doing in the game that affects which way to lean on it. (In the end all the games suffered item/object bloat, I wouldn't mind paying for cheaper GPs without the items like Parenthood but not everyone would be happy with that either)
This pack should've been combined with Wedding Stories as an expansion pack and add Tartosa as holiday destination so you could have like a destination wedding quest or something.

Yea, as a Kiwi, it's hard for me to justify buying this one full price, between the MASSIVE price increase ($50nzd to $70nzd) and the seemingly smaller amount of features/items than what you'd expect in an EP, this one is a tough decision. I'm not usually one to gripe about pack size - I happily bought Horse Ranch for example, to me, even though I can see a lot of areas where it could have been bigger/better, it was still an EP size. This one feels pretty much the same scale as MWS, especially since it seems to borrow systems adapted from MWS and GrT for it's CORE features. It's a bummer cos I have been either day one or preorder on almost all packs for the past few years, and I don't want to miss out on those preorder items (that bed will be great for Rags to Riches), but boy, is this one a tough decision.

I'm excited for the pack but I agree it's lacking to consider it an expansion pack. I would've liked to see more lots, a new venue type, new type of exercise equipment, more interactions for the new closet, a new photo booth (since the pack is about dating) and a new kitchen to justify it being an expansion.
I think you hit the nail on the head with the theory that a hotel system got cut from this pack. They were probably planning to add it using an adjusted For Rent system but were unable to figure out how to fix the bugs in time for their scheduled launch. Which really makes me wonder why they dont slow down their release schedule to give their programmers enough time to create fully realized packs rather than constantly churning out new content that looks nice on the surface but is ultimately half-baked.

It's really a beautiful tree Mexico City has them scattered through the city, if you search pictures of Paseo de la Reforma in Mexico City you'll see some of them. the issue with tilable things like wallpaper and flooring is that half the time the tile doesn't have the pattern I need for that piece of flooring or wall. And if I'm trying to make a specific pattern, but the game is like "oh sorry we're putting the pattern 1-tile off of what you'd like" so it's just awful instead and I just never use the tileable stuff. Get Together did it best with the wallpaper imo. I can actively select which style from the set I need instead of it just being randomly generated for me...why I also hate the wallpapers with the "built in" columns, its buggy and doesn't work correctly, so I never use them.

exactly. Those looping patterns would be great if you could CHOOSE which tile to start on, instead of having whatever the game decides. Honestly, I just assumed there was some way to switch through them that I just couldn't figure out, like the obscure controls to use triangular quarter floor tiles etc.
I was actually getting a bit hooked seeing so many nods to Sims 2 and it kind of felt like the dev team was trying to create something we really want. But when I heard that this is not only an EXPANSION PACK but also they INCREASED THE PRICE...boy, this is the same price as a Triple A game or four full Indie Games. This is ridiculous.

Hot take: I like that the wooden beams don't disappear. I'm very much over decor items, shelves, cabinets and such not being visible after I've built a cool space and used those things as accent pieces
I understand James is speaking from a Sims youtuber perspective where his Sims being visible is important but in my game personally I am yet to be bothered by stuff seriously obstructing my view

The Lovestruck Expansion has EVERY color for each of the Tiny Towners! That's rare! There are Base Game Wallpapers, and they have several shades of the same colors; pastel, normal, dark
This is my best guess for why there's two windows for things that seem like there should be one:
In web design/dev, you have identifiers called IDs and Classes. You attach these to different elements of a web page and when you call them in CSS, you applying can apply styling to them. So you can style many different elements with just a few lines of code. But you have go be careful when coding because these things can overlap and affect each other. And the more code you have, the higher the chance you have of breaking something.
TS4 is so old with, I would wager, thousands of lines of code. I assume they use identifiers as well and at this point, the code is widespread and easy to break that they just create a different item with a new identifier to keep try and not break something.
This is my best guess anyway.
With the rumor about Sim 5 being abandoned, I think EA needs to go even more extensive with quality control and if they are going to stretch Sim4 to the end of time they are going to have to take on the lofty task of addressing the aging coding, organizing it, and completely updating it.
@@zinthaniel9913 I do agree but at the same time, a lot of the same issues would still exist. A very, very rudimentary example would be a person who decides to attend college. Then they get married. But they still like to party with their friends. Then they have a kid. And maybe another kid. And they have a full time job. And then they get get another part time job. And they job an organization for school.
That's a lot for one person to balance.
Of course, they will graduate. They can trim off the their partying. But there's still a lot of things taking up their time. At some point, you're going to end up double booking and having to make choices about what event you're going to choose over the other.
Again, I don't mean this example as a one-by-one comparison. I just mean there's over 50 total packs all attached to one very old game engine. There's only so much clean-up and reconstruction that can be done to help.
There needs to be a new game. I think a Sims 5 will be made eventually. If not project Rene, then at some point of time.

the item duplication issue like with the windows is because of lack of oversight and poor management. They obviously didn't need BOTH when one functions as both...and then they complain that they need to make the game run better but constantly do nonsense like this. Of course the game gets slogged down when you're adding duplicate assets for NO REASON. Debug is a great example of this problem too. In EVERY pack there are duplicated base game items that aren't needed as they're base game, but they copy paste it and include it in the new pack to look like they're filling it up when they're not. The lack of matching gates is also a big oversight/poor management issue. Oh yeah we need duplicate windows but no matching gates >.> oh yeah you also need 3 more bars with matching backs! 3!!! jfc

jacarandas are from the southerm hemisphere actually, they are native in Argentina, Brazil, Bolivia and Paraguay, not Mexico that is in the northern hemisphere. Jacarandas also grow in South africa and in Australia (as you said) that are also in the southern hemisphere

Yes, I agree. When I think of romantic/dating life, I don't think about mexico. But I think It's a recurring theme for the Sims team to mix cities when they create a pack I mean San Myshuno it's aparently about San Francisco but I get new york or seoul from it

I wish they wouldn’t do the alternating wall papers and give them as two different swatches that match as it makes it hard if you want it centered as an accent wall, same with the trim on corners for siding. Country living did it that way with the wall papers and it’s so much better that way.

Yeah, in Denmark the price of an expansion is 299 DKK - $65,24 AUD - $43,6 USD - €40,07 EUR which is really damn expensive, so it’s safe to say that I won’t be getting this pack on launch. It definitely doesn’t feel like the pack is an expansion, no matter how I look at it it’s more of a game pack size 😕
( And omg the window thing! I got unreasonably upset about there being two versions of the exact same window, except one curves while the other doesn’t. For some reason that got me really mad 😂 I thought the same thing with HSY when they added the curved and non-curved window. Like, why bother adding a duplicate window that’s made utterly useless by the existence of the one that can both go on curved _and_ straight walls?? *internal screaming!* )

As a builder I love packs with a really distinctive look. It makes it so fun doing themed builds.
Genuinely think they should've combined My Wedding Stories and Lovestruck and then that would've been a worthwhile EP. Also, I can't help but feel like this is just... an update to City Living? I was playing in San Myshuno the other day and went to the Love Festival and so much of that echos what I've seen from this pack. A lot of these features should've been added to a City Living refresh imo. I'm glad you've actually said it though. We can always trust you to be honest about the new packs.

a few of the items just seem like recolours of other packs items... like the triangle shade umbrella thing is in the toddler stuff and another pack I'm pretty sure... and who knows if they'll fix the tagging issues! I'm not a cas player really but the shoes from the paranormal pack aren't under any category either, and they've never fixed that! I think the single tile beam will be cool for outdoor pergola builds and that sort of thing!

The open and closing windows is so lazy. I’m in my first year of learning game design and even I know how easy and doable that is. AND it is basically the same as gates and doors having a closed version and open version. Its so easy and it shows how lazy they can be
I was really hoping that the trailer was just a bad representation of the game, but turns out that it's exactly as expected. Like you said, this is at MOST a game pack... Jungle Adventures and even Outdoor Retreat certainly have more content! Each pack seems to be lazier than the last...
thank god we've got 3 new bars though!!!! They more than make up for the lack of gate and the already accumulating pile of bugs...

I think the beam ceiling items and the fairy lights on the ceiling and wall are probably meant to make/enhance a canopy bed or area, especially with how you showed those curtains worked being off the wall

It would be cool if you could store water in the water tank and see available water levels with eco lifestyle. And if the picnic basket from cottage living functioned with the picnic blanket.
Also, it's crazy because they have a window opening animation from the high school years pack. I never really use that window because random sims enter my home through it, but if it just opened that would have been cool too. I've even caught my sims randomly staring out a window as an animation that I can't initiate. So the animations are there, just not accessible to us.
Isn't there a solar water heater in For Rent that could be integrated? It would be a cool mod to link everything together in a functional way.

I love the fact that James said this is definitely too close to game pack territory. A lot of us have been saying this since we saw leaks. It was even further confirmed by the livestream and how they…didn’t show much off at all. I like the items in the pack, but that doesn’t justify buying the pack. The rehashing and duplication of items is cheap and lazy. Yeah, we _totally_ need *more* bars and the same mirror twice, one just with rando polaroids. We don’t need the same exercise equipment. Why aren’t the dumbbells functional? If there was no world or a slightly smaller one minus one neighborhood, it’s a game pack

This pack reminds me of seasons and growing together. Most of its gameplay is background type stuff. It will entirely alter how I play the game, but it doesn't stand out the same way horses or cats and dogs or get to rent features do. But it will forever change how relationships work. Since it's changing an already existing feature rather than adding something new, most people don't see it as an expansion.
i like that the swatches sorta match with each other and the style is so nice too.

100% agree they should make the windows operable! It's funny you call them cages, the bars in front of windows. We call them Romeo and Juliet balconies.
Some of the new objects would be really neat for some new Barbie or faire styled builds.
