Impressed with John Lone's voice as well as his pretty face!!! How could he do that? It's women's voice.
he got Chinese opera training when he was young so that he knew the skills in how to change his voice like a woman.

David Cronenberg's directed several great movies, and this is probably his most overlooked.

M Butterfly is about a French diplomat who fell in love with a Chinese Peking Opera Singer, unaware of the fact that Singers in the Beijing Opera were all men. Song Liling/ Madame Butterfly used this as an advantage to deceive him since he sidelines as a spy.
