You Need To Sand It! And If You Use Grey Primer Before You Paint It Black, You Can Make It Look Like Its Metal Because Some Of The Grey Will Show If You Sand It Lightly.

or he could dry-brush it with metallic silver, but sanding it would make it much cleaner.

I suggest using puzzleboard foam instead of the foam you're using, you can actually shape it and it holds up better, might have to mess with the thickness though

Agreed. Plus, covering it with a few layers of white or wood glue before painting would give it a much better surface finish and make it all that more durable.
