Spot in, one thing you didn't mention is that liquidity even in a hot market tends to dry up on higher priced items. The more it is worth on paper the fewer the number of buyers available to you. Everyone getting in now should go back and watch some original a Rudy's bathroom content and see just how hard and frustrating it was in the down market for him.

      @thomas_o 2 дні тому +1

From what I can remember, Rudy's bathroom inventory was due to the massive reprints of Roaring Skies and Primal Clash by PCI and the aftermath. He was still able to move some stuff, but he had to break down the collection boxes and sell the packs and contents individually. I believe he mentioned, subsequently he didn't purchase as many Sun & Moon products due to that (which he admitted was probably a bad mistake on his part).

Especially for someone like me who only sells on fb market. I’ve learned that about $200 is the most I can charge for something and get a lot of interest

@@akirohitan4698 because the average person who has deepish pockets isn't on marketplace... they want a better way to secure product. marketplace is a great place to pick up boxes at discounts because the ebay or tcg price has an implied premium to it.

FWIW, I know of one person that used collectinsure to file a claim and it was a relatively painless process.

Who else been holding since 2020-2021? This is time is glorious for real “investors” and not the fomo squad.

The part I think a lot of people overlook is the selling portion.
Sell on eBay - depending on your state selling fees, I sell a decent amount so mine is 12.5% instead of 15%. I make buyer pay shipping so that's not a thing, but their is a risk with chargebacks and getting scammed.
Sell locally - Everyone I've talked to locally doesn't want sealed for any more than 75% market value which honesty is kind of insane. In a hot market also, in a sellers market the buyers don't want to go above 75%...I can't imagine their offers in a bad market. probably 60% or less. I wasn't in a hurry to sell either so I just waited until I found a buyer that was comfortable with what I wanted to sell at...but it took forever.

the reality is that sales in person should always be at a discount to digital retail or physical retail sales like ebay ,tcgp or the local game store. there is a premium implied in the ebay price due to selling fees, sales tax, shipping and insurance. all these costs should be passed on to the consumer so the end price is somewhere between 15-30% above street value. anything in person will always go for a discount because you the seller aren't a market maker. that's why game stores and the like sell at a premium because they are the "dealers". not to mention selling on your own is a decentralized market that doesnt have a consistent supply of consumer demand because most consumers are centralized to retailers. 🙂

@ not. 30% discount your nuts if you think that

For those who have the cash, it’s a great period to buy a lot, sell part in 6-12 month to pay big part of what they will keep long term.

As I look back at the sealed I've bought and held over the past 3-4 years, I've been glad I didn't go further than I did. I'm glad with the prices I'm getting with what I'm starting to sell off. When it comes to the thought of a home disaster, the last thing I want is a bunch of heavy items I can't move in 5 minutes. There are opportunities to outperform markets, but you have to ask yourself if it's worth the excess risk.

That is why I swapped to PSA slabs and vault 50% of it. Easy liquidity and safe. Also, Slabs are settling in price where you can make a decent profit now. I only Keep One booster box of the big hitters like evo skies/ lost origin. I keep my slabs in a fireproof safe.. even though they are all ultra-modern cards their value is getting crazy and worth protecting

The best chance to cool this market is early 2027 when gen 10 card sets drop. if the gen is underwhelming then it could be like early SV all over again.

Yup! Im already not looking forward to shipping my sealed stuff. I dont have too much but its enough to where i am running out of storage space. I've been trying to find local buyers who will take at least 80% but they all want less than 70.

if you are buying online and selling on the street you wont be able to make any profit. same goes with thinking that online price is street price, online price is always a premium because the multiple selling costs like shipping etc. is implied as a passed cost to consumers. need to be a market maker to sell for a realistic price and not compress your margins unfortunately...

Is Shining Magikarp from Celebrations on fire or what? I would imagine other cards from that amazing set (25th anniversary) will catch on fire as well. Every card from the classic collection is a remake of an epic OG from within the Pokémon TCG. I know all the new fufu alt art whatever cards are nice, and you have about a zillion to one chances of pulling one of those, but you can actually collect this very cool set and own every one of the cards from it for a few grand tops. For me, completing this set in a PSA 10 is far more attractive of a hobby move than sitting on a pile of unopened cardboard, waiting for that day down the road when they haul you away to a home for the elderly and your kids dump your sealed ETBs on EBAY and take the money and buy a new SUV with the proceeds. Mark this post, the next "hottest set" from the early 2020s is going to be Celebrations.

Fairly new to pokemon, but if it's like stocks/bitcoin, having the ability to wait things out through cycles is the winning strategy.

the pokemon market is still tiny. if it can sustain this "run" then people have no idea what is really coming. trump can shitcoin his way to billions in a day, the card market isnt even close to this yet...

Invest in Pokemon and other TCG as you would do with stock market : long term and don’t count on getting your money back at a certain time !

if that's the case then you should be buying the top cards in the marketplace. they will index better than sealed product ever could :)
