Tackling LAME SHEEP!

- We've had a really bad year this year with foot rot and I thin we will be foot vaxing the sheep next year.
Until then we are trying to keep on top of any problems before they get too severe.
This piece of ground has amazing grass but I do find that winter grazing that has cattle on during summer seems to cause more lameness issues than just clean silage aftermath.
Let me know what you think.

ABOUT ME
I’m 32 years old and I’m a sheep farmer from Ayrshire in South West Scotland, which is why I have such a strong accent! I was born and raised on a sheep farm watching my dad who was the shepherd.
At 18 I went away from farming to work in the city (something I still do) and at 23 (2013) I decided I wanted to do something for some extra money so I went on a sheep shearing course. The hardest thing I’ll ever do was learning to shear sheep. [shudders thinking about it]
I shore whilst on my holidays from work for 2 years and then in 2015 my dad died so I decided to get my own sheep so I could continue working with sheep as it was something I loved doing. From there it escalated quickly from my first 4 sheep in my mum’s garden to now running around 850 breeding ewes.
I shore over 19,000 sheep this season in the UK and have my own shearing run which lets you see many different farms in the summer months.
A few years ago I bought myself a sheep pregnancy scanner and have been building up my run since then.
I watched a few farm vlogs on UA-cam and decided I could have a go and now here we are!
Thanks for watching my videos and please subscribe if you want to see more in future.
Wrap your glass meds bottles in vet wrap. When they are that expensive you don't want to be breaking them. Sandi made that mistake once 😔 it's sickening 😪
🤣 good idea!
There's also pipe freezing wraps...soft neoprene that may be a nice fit...just cut n label
Any sticky bandage will do, grab one off HGP.
Great idea !
I'm a young sheep farmer here in New Zealand and really enjoy watching you guys. Heading over to the UK this year to learn the UK way of farming. Thanks for making me look forward to it
Oh how wonderful ! Seeing all y’all together makes my heart happy ❤ Lizzy you are a badass , I mean that in a good way. Two babies and still holding it down.
You two crack me up! 🤣 It's great to see everyone out taking care of the sheep.
It was lovely to see the entire family out together. Little Jock is fearless and adorable! Thank you for sharing.
That was the best picture that you took of him sitting on that machine just absolutely adorable personally I would blow it up to an 8 by 10 picture❤
Great video, lovely to see all the family out together, I see lizzy didn't let you drive😂
🤣 no it’s easier on my ear if she drives 😅
Hello Cammy, from (very) Northern California. This is my first time watching your video. I followed you from The Hoof GP. Your job is SO PHYSICAL! It's nice to "meet" you.
You sound like my great-grammy who was raised in Kilbirnie. Gosh, I miss her voice. ❤
Nice looking family. It was funny hearing Jock giving sheep dog commands. Can't wait to watch tje young ones help rounding up the flock.
Short n sweet fun lizzy seems so much more relaxed with the cam n jock my goodness hes a cutie pie❤
Needed this!!! Recovering from surgery and really needed to see this!!! Lovely family, lovely landscape, lovely sheep!!!
Hope ewe are back to health very soon, Lisa. 🐑
Thanks Lisa! Look after yourself 🥰
Hey you two...greetings from Australia! Even you must admit - that was a hard day's work! Place is looking nice and green Cam - after three good seasons we've gone crispy brown and hand feeding now. The good news is that a restaurant rated in Australia's top 10 has started buying our lamb...and that's worth smiling about!
love the ''your getting weaker'' comment, love both of you and your beautiful boys, my chill out video, we all need something like this in our life, and I highly recommend you and Sandi to all mu family and friends...keep up the brilliant work you do hugs and much gratitude to the farming life xxx
I love how well trained and obedient your dog is 😂
🤣🤣🤣 i’m a patient man
Love seeing Lizzy and the boys.
Beautiful day with your beautiful family. I hope the jag works quickly. 😁👍👍
Lovely video nice to see all the family members working together wee Jock is such a character and also gorgeous Lizzie looks amazing motherhood certainly seems to suit her. Take care
Football best investment you will make
You can usually tell by the needle. IM are longer to get to the muscle and subQ are sorter because they just have to go below the skin.
Aww, the family is in good fettle this time of year. Always great to see a new video from you. Hopefully your feet issue lessens soon.
Great use of fettle 😁🥰
@@TheSheepGame I try 😁
Cammy’s beautiful family. Good seeing you. Enjoy watching you working the pups. They’re amazing.🙏💕👍🇺🇸🐑🐑🐑
Hi liz and cammie footvax is the way to go especially with buying in bite the bullet do.the whole flock every year and every thing coming I it save money hassle and time in the long term
I'm a joiner in East Lothian. Started watching ye a year ago as I dream of having a small-holding and wanted to learn about sheep. I've stayed due to yer positive nature and great sense of humour. I've got some American blood and spent some time there as kid but I also love Scots. I consider myself Tri-lingual: Scots, English and American 🤣Was also an actor in a previous life and keep thinking it would be fun to do a "translation" video with ye, though I've no idea how we'd work that out. This channel is braw! Go on yersel! Mark
🤍🤍🤍 what a beautiful family…so proud Cammy.
Thanks Tammy🥰🥰
Why do they call you sheep herders? Looks more like sheep catchers/wrestlers. 😂Love seeing Lizzie, the boys, & the doggos! ❤Beautiful girls you have there! Great video!
Maybe time for a Sheep Hook Cammy, The ladies seem to be getting a tad bit faster than you hehe! Love seeing the family all together 💜Nova Scotia 🇨🇦
Love your sheep videos cammy another amazing video

Your apprentice shepherd is so cute! 😅❤🇨🇦
Can't believe Fern is 11! She's going strong.
we love you lizzie!
The camera is there for my protection was hilarious.
Hi Cammy and Lizzie, How old is the new baby and what’s the name? Bye from California
Hi Cynthia
Baby Angus is now 11 weeks old. He hung on for a week and was born on Christmas Day! 😂
What a great way for your boys to grow up!!! Oh yeah, and interesting about the sheep as well! lol
Lizzy, you are the Queen of Sheep.
Nice video and a very mannerly family day at sheep, I didn't hear 1 cross word. 😂
Edited them all out for the sake of the kids 🤣
Jock is having a snack while you two work - cute ❤️❤️
You make grabbing sheep look so easy lol
Who needs a gym to work out lol
You make a brilliant team and lovely children bless you 👍👍👍👍
Wow, look at that blue sky, isn't it beautiful 😍🌞
You have a lovely family,Cammy and Lizzie❤️❤️
I use tulloxin same as draxin less than 1/3 of the price.
Leah my niece is coming to Scotland for 2 years.
She will be staying in Montrose, I told her to get her but to you to say hi, she would love to work with you if possible, she is from New Market Ontario Canada
I footvax my x bred ewes this year to be honest with you I thought it was a bit of a con but it seems to have worked great we've done 3 lame out of 450 in the last 10 weeks will definitely be doing them again along with the draft ewes and hill ewes worth the money but it does hurt paying for it I think if they dropped the price they would sell more of it would make a smaller margin but would probably make more profit as more would use it
Would a pair of clippers and some blue spray not do the job? It's a lot cheaper and time saving as one person with a dog could work the lambs in the field or a handling pen.
Have you never found a spray good enough for foot rot?
On another note - whats the best lube for lambing? Cheers!
I've gotta ask do you ever get a muddy wellie to the face carrying Jock on your shoulders?
What does a proper sheep farmer's son wear? Little bitty wellies! 👍😎👍
Having a girl bairn could just add to the fun!
I’ll try make that happen🤣
Cammy I started my one UA-cam channel called Sheep life Galway
Good Lad Charlie!
How often do you use the foot bath? Only when you see sore feets appearing?
Nice to see Lizzy.
That's some cost for a dose
Used to check sheep feet years ago , foot rot and foot and mouth , not nice to look it
Hi, Turkce alt yazi ekler misin?
HOORAY… the whole family.
A boy Cammy another good video 👍.
Great to see the we man help out with the raddles, even though he got sick of them fairly rapid & threw em away 🤣🤣🤣
These modern bairns are soft 🤣
Such a treat to see the boys!!!❤️❤️❤️❤️ So adorable
"You guys know." Yes, Cammy, yes we do! 🤣
Good morning gorgeous family. 🇳🇿 8.30am in New Zealand. Magpies singing and the sun is out. 12 C
Awesome Dee 🥰
I was doing that this morning 😂
Hello beautiful family .. appreciate your Amazing beautiful fabulous upload .. gorgeous editing filming captured .. have a wonderful blessing day .. Merci
"Lizzy loves her....Lizzy loves her..." hahahaha
You're a good dog, Fern, no matter what daddy says. 😉
Have you counted up the cost of treatments? £3/shot of draxxin for ewe lambs probably £6/ewe it could leave the vaccine cheap! That’s before you take time gathering to treat etc. Be interesting if you look back and see how much draxxin you have used in the last 12 months. I footvax everything as most of the grazing is away from the house and would say it’s a big help, only get bits of scald now.
Family day...good to see everybody. That looked like very manual labor.
I was needing it. I get lazy scanning sheep 🤣
Our ground is pretty clay and as you’ve had some weeks foxtrot is worse than others, i catch them and use engomisin blue antibiotic spray on the foot and next day it’s usually ok, brill stuff 👍
I did't know you could put a little one near the sheep. I couldn't withe a cow. I just never think some times. Granny 90 USA.
Surprised you're using Draxxin. I've only used it for really stubborn cases that haven't cleared up with Alamycin which costs only about £15 a 100ml bottle. Usually give metacam or equivalent at the same time. Vets advise has been to isolate affected sheep so I keep a few paddocks for footrot sheep to try and stop the others picking it up at pasture. I've had bad years with ewe lambs who then go on to not have problems later as ewes so I'm reluctant to cull as they also advise but do get rid of persistent offenders in the main flock.
Just curious, when will your girls be ready to lamb? Will you be able to do lambing videos on top of your shearing videos, or is shearing finished before they lamb?
My man, you are totally chad. I am not sure most viewers know how hard it is to not only catch sheep, but also to pick them up over the temp gate (what was that like thirty sheep?). Remind me NOT to challenge you to a wrestling match. 😂
I love Meg's outrun!
Pro tip: put a bit of tape or a bandaid/ plaster around the syringe at your 1ml mark for easy reference. Saves a lot of squinting 😆
You'd think it would be easier to catch a lame sheep. Of course, I couldn't do it in a million years!
Dad you need to grow your hair out so Jock has something to hold on to. You do realize the camera is not always running 😄. Wonderful job as usual.
Did you guys have another little one!? Congrats!
I like that ! How you casually walk among them like your just wandering then you go for the grab! Lol
Love your second UA-cam channel “Shearing Season”!
Interesting video 👌
So, when are you lifting weights? Just did, lol
Hi
Love seeing you both working together and the kids being able to be there at times. 🇨🇦
There will be a few purple marks tonight on ya. Ow
Try Nuflor too it’s good about 60euro pet 100ml
£50
Thanks!
A real family affair, another not to easy job done.
1.5 cc daraxxin will do the job on feet
Watch out Cami, your son has poop on his boot! Lol
You don't pare the feet or spray with alymycin Cammy? we jag them with Alymycin 300 LA as well if they are very lame. wee Jock will soon be running the show!!
No we stopped trimming feet couple years ago on vets advice. Totally on board with it. Antibiotics heals the foot then the sheep naturally breaks off the extra hoof when she starts walking on it again. We do usually spray them but we forgot it that day🤣.
You need rain boots for them. Worked for my mom.
Do the records flag up withdrawal if you select them for sale?
Yeah it notifies you that “animals in this group are within retention” 👍
Great video!
Quick question... would glasses help with the reading and the driving? Am serious, as we age our eyes change, maybe it's time for an eye exam (or at least get the cheap over-the-counter glasses from the pharmacy). Something to think about.
Have a great rest of the weekend!
-Jill
😅 cheers Jill. The writing was in russian that was the bother 🤣🤣
Eyes are interesting. My eye specialist told me I have 20/20 vision at 65. But my lenses are stiffening up, which is why close up, I need hobby glasses. He likened lenses to a rubber band. When it new, it springs back to the place it started. When it’s old, it is slow and sometime can’t make it back. Which is why we start to place the object we are looking at further away from our face. Commonly known as ‘Long Arm’ syndrome. When we run out of arm, we buy hobby glasses. You can exercise the lenses by looking the furtherest into the distance you can see and holding the gaze. You can sometimes feel the lens straining. Then look at you hand. Or be lazy like me and by hobby glasses.
Tried to snag or tackle a lamb at our herding lesson on Saturday morning because she kept banging into the fence to escape my dog. He wasnt being mean but she hadnt been worked before in a small group and was trying to commit suicide. My herding instructor could snag her either. So we gave up and ended the lesson. Loved the new sheep dog with the blond fur. He is doing great. Af few more lessons and he have a chance to win the Worlds.
Congratulations on your new baby. But I didn't know you had another. Could you introduce her/him?
His name is Angus, & he was born 25 Dec.
@@Cricket2731 a Christmas baby! What a great gift. 💖
Why not use your gate system for this job? Are they in a different field or something? I felt bad for you lifting them like that! Yikes!
It’s too hard to see the lame ones. Need a big pen with space so they can walk about and we can spot them 😁👍
@@TheSheepGame oooohhhhh that makes sense!
