ABOUT ME
I’m 31 years old and I’m a sheep farmer from Ayrshire in South West Scotland, which is why I have such a strong accent! I was born and raised on a sheep farm watching my dad who was the shepherd.
At 18 I went away from farming to work in the city (something I still do) and at 23 (2013) I decided I wanted to do something for some extra money so I went on a sheep shearing course. The hardest thing I’ll ever do was learning to shear sheep. [shudders thinking about it]
I shore whilst on my holidays from work for 2 years and then in 2015 my dad died so I decided to get my own sheep so I could continue working with sheep as it was something I loved doing. From there it escalated quickly from my first 4 sheep in my mum’s garden to now running around 600 breeding ewes.
I shore over 15,000 sheep this season in UK and I also travel to Norway for shearing in March and September. (Covid messed it up this year)
A few years ago I bought myself a sheep pregnancy scanner and have been building up my run since then.
I watched a few farm vlogs on UA-cam and decided I could have a go and now here we are!
Thanks for watching my videos and please subscribe if you want to see more in future.
Im almost tempted to believe Scotland is on another planet! Everytime I watch any Scottish videos Im blown away by the absolute savageness of the sky! Its so angry and huge! Its got to influence how you feel. Our sky over my part of the world is just blue. So boring. Even your clouds are amazing. Lucky you. 💖
I'm an enviromentalist but i totally agree about the hill farms and talking to the locals and I think the hill farmers do a wonderful job and know their land very well. In my experience they do work much better hand in hand with wildlife than most. My focus is on the monoculture farming on lowlands in England which are often a wasteland as far as wildlife is concerned and the over reliance on chemical fertilizers etc which is totally different to hill farming sheep.
The whole who owns the land thing is a major issue for us all. I would like rules which mean land is available for small scale farmers as a priority and that you must live in the country to own land. Trees are increably important and we have far less tree cover than most European countries but as you said in the right places, and indeed the right sort of trees not just single species quick growing conifers.
I’m almost speechless…I had to watch this twice. It was absolutely beautiful. I can’t even imagine the work you put in Cammy to but this video together as it is basically movie quality. The message this vlog brings is so very important and I’m so proud of you for bringing it to us and hopefully a lot of folks that need to hear it. Thank you for what you do for farming…it means everything 😊🐑💙
Thanks you so much Tammy! You are always so supportive and the positivity on here makes it all worthwhile!
Well said. I could watch the sheep all day.
❤I really enjoyed this blog!
The scenery was stunning and the quality of this video tremendous. Tourism Wales should use it in an ad!
My doctor told me to try counting sheep when I’m having trouble sleeping, I tried it loads of times but it never worked I told him , he asked why, and I said there’s always one missing.
@@johnpark-jones4285 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
The Jack Russell was fired after this video! 😂
Such a majestic place to farm, and live. Thank you for sharing this video with us! Love from the USA!
Gareth Wyn Jones has very important point that a lot of "environmentalists" and greenies don't always have a clue regarding farming or healthy environment. Many don't know interspecies dependency or value of livestock grazing and have very prepackaged idea and talking points regarding land usage and farming. A lot of scientists, researchers and entomologists will argue differently and argue that grazing animals protect habitat and encourage insect species to thrive and are significant to healthy land/habitat. So it's good to hear him say this. Farmers need to invite and get serious-minded researchers onto their lands to explore the benefits and interspecies relationships. It's very important point to make and good constructive communication can be made.
Gareth is some man. Everything that man speaks is facts and I couldn’t agree with him more 👌🏻
Thank you - Diolch
@@GarethWynJones cefnogwyr defaid surely brawd haha 😉
Well managed farms using methods that preserve the soils and prevent contamination from runoff are good for the environment, not bad. We need more great farmers who care about the land and sustainability. Keep at it!
Exactly. I think some corporate methods of farming are giving the whole field a bad name.
It's not only a corporate problem. There's plenty of family farmers overgrazing. Our actions need to be above reproach if we want to be above reproach. If we keep set stocking and selling animals to feed lots to finish we will continue to have problems with environmentalist and vegan lobbying in our governments.
Good fella he his his wealth of knoledge was amazing .greavt film cam the quality was awsome
We sure do. And we need people to be willing to spend more money on products, that were produced environmental friendly. The financial load of producing high quality environmental friendly products can not lie on the farmers, or companies in general. But people just respond to marketing and don't pay attention to the facts. Things are so screwed up these days.
as a Dutch shepherd it was such an amazing watch with all the hills and mountains we lack but it was also very nice to see us do a lot of the same stuff and having a jack russel creating more work for a long day. Would love to join this some day and me lass also, though not sure she is used to such a large terrain, I bet her instinct knows better what to do then my (lack of) instincts. Thanks for sharing and have a great season!
This is one of the most beatiful videos I have seing, it got it all - love, beauty, romanitic, real people, humor, anger, happieness. And it is probably only people who are affected by multinational companies bad conscience and wiseacre people, who really can understand how it feels in your suol and heart when the land and lifestyle that has existed for ages is beeing ruined.
Thanks Maria!! Glad u enjoyed it!
love the video, looks just like New Zealand South Island High Country.
Amazing. I'm a farmer in South West Wales, Gareth is a inspiration to me. When ever I'm stressed and struggling. There is always something he sais or dose that inspires me and gives me self belief to carry on.
What a beautiful place to live!
Diolch - Thank you
Wow the passion from this guy blew me away !!
that was spectacular. very nice present.
This is great. Farmer's aren't the problem, government is the problem. It's beautiful country in Wales. It's also nice seeing how each country handles their farming.
Brilliant video Cam . It is important that people understand that this land is being taken care of. We don't need to change it. The people and the countryside are both beautiful just like Scotland. My mom is British I was lucky enough to get to visit . We spent a week going around Scotland during the month I was there. I absolutely fell in love .
Thanks Kathy! You are so right!
@@TheSheepGame is my go to vlog.....always......eh....d.
Hello from North Carolina USA… enjoy your videos.
Fantastic vlog cammy. Gareth wyn jones speaks more sense than anyone about letting the people who work the land manage the land.
Cheers
I just realized I'm beginning to tell the difference between Scottish, English and Welsh accents. 😯😲😳 and the scenery in this, Wow! Fur a moment I felt like I was falling into the video! Amazing. And he's so right about sustainability and trapping carbon.
Brilliant Stacey😁😁
@@TheSheepGame one of your best videos, Cammy. Keep up the good work! Amazing scenery, entertaining characters and Incredibly educational.
Fantastic video, stunning country, lovely people ❤
Amazing video and a great message!! 😁
Thanks to the Jack Russell for adding a good dose of laughter. 😂
Jack is a liability at times 😂
Its not just here in Australia that the greenies and big corporations are destroying the world ! Love your show even though we struggle too understand your accent lol ! We have a small hobby farm with about 40 sheep, xbreeds ! We love learning more watching your vids ! 👍
This is spectacular. I’m fascinated by Wales. I hope you go there again. It’s incredibly beautiful. Thank you for this! I’m just dying laughing watching the sheep scattered all over the town because of one tiny dog, after all the work the big dogs did to get them down there. Hysterical! Some of your best work here, Cammy!
Thank you! It took ages so I appreciate that!
Your videos are always riveting. This one brought me to tears.
Hello Williams family in Wales .
I just love “traveling” to all these beautiful countrysides through your videos. Thank you so much! ❤️🙏
Excellent, the message in the video is so important for the future of farming in the UK. This way of life is so important for nature and for food production. Thank you Cammy, Gareth and all involved. Take care.
Dioich - Thank you
Thanks Christine. Gareth is doing great work for our industry!
@@TheSheepGame and you are too Cammy.
The only videos I have enjoyed as much are the ones with wee Jock. The drone footage made me yearn to the point of tears. What a beautiful part of the world. Thank you Cammy.
Cam, I loved the sheep splitting up! Thanks for the laugh, I know you all worked real hard to get those sheep to the farm. You did a great job with this video. I loved the one on one conversation and the drone footage.
Thanks Tina
Such incredible beauty. Thanks for sharing.
Beautiful land. So glad Gareth and the others there are taking care of it. The aerial shots were magnificent. Loved watching the dogs working the sheep after that split up.
Diolch - thanks
Farmer-environmentalist here. THIS is NOT the kind of farming that's problematic for the environment. As he said, you can't enact a blanket policy and expect it to work everywhere. The kind of farming that's problematic is the kind that DOESN'T take the health of the soil, wildlife and plant life diversity, etc. into account. Just because environmentalists say X farming practice is causing problems, necessarily means they're NOT taking about ALL practices, and even then there's room for different layers of "problematic." Feed lots, for example are generally problematic for the environment, BUT there are many feed lots that have taken HUGE steps to off-set those problems. And there are some farms that keep livestock stationary but don't have MOST of the carbon footprint problems that "feed lots" are infamous for. On Sandi Brock's farm, as you know, the sheep are stationary and their waste is concentrated BUT the farm practices regarding composting the waste and putting back on the fields reduces the damage that waste had the potential to do. Using blanket accusations against "environmentalists" not knowing what they're talking about is doing to environmentalists what some farmers, including Jones here, complain is being done to them. Stop it! I love The Sheep Game, but when I checked out Jones' social media, maaan, all kinds of minimally accurate information (with a LOT of inaccurate accusations) from repeatedly discredited sources. It doesn't look good for "farmers" when that's their representative. That said, I think we all agree that the world needs food, the world needs farmers, AND the world needs farmers to adjust practices based on new information and do so in ethical ways that aim to reduce the far-reaching externalities of their practices. ✌️♥️
Cammy the perfect video for today. I live to watch the dogs work. Display of strong family ties. I lost my Mom 3 hours ago today, so this one was special for me.
Glad I could brighten your sad day a little hit Lesa! Thanks for always watching and commenting!
I'm truly sorry for your loss you have my deepest sympathy.
@@kathysmith4261 Agreed!
Absolutely stunning! Thank you for taking us with you and for introducing me to Gareth the world needs more people like the two of you.

I just loved this video. My family history is Welsh but many generations removed. I'd love to go visit Wales one day.
What an insanely beautiful place! You’ve outdone yourself, Cammy.
Thanks Elizabeth!
Well done Cammy! Class video and dare I say the best I have seen from all I follow over the years. Mind blowing…
Thank you for the video, it's wonderful. Beautiful country. Environmentalist doesn't know what they are talking about.I have a soft spot for farmers, my grand parents and ancestors were farmers
Marvelous! Simply marvelous. It is beautiful, but doesn't tug at my heart like Scotland!
Thanks Tam! Glad you enjoyed it!
That was a Terrific Drone Footage Cammy xx I laughed when I saw the Jack Russell. Gareth is a Great Guy I enjoyed listening to him his Passion Came Through xx
Diolch - Thank you. Jack is a law upon himself 😂🙈
Awwww man I wish I could of teleported myself there! Smashing vlog Cammy!
Awesome video Cam, thanks for taking me home, incredible footage and brings back so many fantastic memories with my father gathering sheep in the Carneddau, which is God's Country, such Hiraeth watching the video with an occasional tear....... Diolch Gareth for showing our beautiful scenery and the hill farming way.
That's great Howard, glad I was able to bring back some good memories for you.
Oh boy that's one of the funniest videos I've seen in a long time ty. 😆 🤣 😂
Beautiful! I'm really enjoying seeing the sheep farmers of the United Kingdom and Scotland through your lens, Cammy. Thank you!
What a great video Cammy I'm a Welsh hill farmer and this video means a lot to us hill farmers thanks
I love this video and Gareth is right about the trees in Tasmanian we don't keep replanting we fall then replant in that place we have lost a lot off dairy farm just for tree but the government has put a stop to it
What beautiful country it is there lovely
It's a dream of mine to make it to the UK and drive around the whole country!! So beautiful!
The message is powerful and so true. That land is beautiful.
Absolutely amazing 🥰 I live in New Mexico, USA and we have some beautiful mountains but not quite like the ones you have in this video. Thank you so much for capturing the beauty of it all.
So beautiful to see the northern Welsh landscape. Thank you again for taking us on such a great trip. Love the monsoon jackets too!
I’m Somerset but have to say Wales quite special
The scenery ... OMG! Thanks so much Cammy.
Another window into an extraordinary part of the world! And ponies as a bonus ❤️ I’ll have to be sure to remember the pub quiz tip!
😁 that’s a quiz winning bit of knowledge that
Cammy, you should come to Iceland in the fall for gathering and "réttir". You would love it.
Cammy wonderful to meet Gareth and to see you help him bring in lots.
Thank you so much for your videos.
Hi Cammy, "A Place for the Soul to Find Peace"! It could not of been said better.
Thank you for sharing this gorgeous land with us and of course all of the beautiful sheep.
Take care and Be Safe till next time. Much love to you and you, Lizzy and sweet baby Jock. ❤❤❤
My dog is helping by barking at the video. What a beautiful countryside, and a great video.
Stunning country, handsome sheep breed, brilliant drone footage!👍
I’m from Boston & this is amazing!
Well done fella. Great video. As a welsh hill farmer myself I agree will all points raised and like yourself I'm very concerned about who the way farming is being perceived and ruled by people who dont understand how the countryside works. Keep banging the drum, hopefully they'll listen 🤟🤙
His family has been working that same patch of land for 375 years??! That is time that we here in America just cannot wrap our minds around. What a brilliant advocate for sustainable agriculture. Absolutely love it!
It could be longer, but that's how far we've managed to trace the family tree to this farm
That was brilliant. Nice sheep country and the shepherds are as suited to it as the Welsh ewes. One branch of my family were Jones from North Wales. Even though we now live across the Atlantic over 2800 miles away I feel an innate kinship. We are still in the same business raising sheep, caring for the land and producing healthy food. Thanks for this great vlog Cammy very well done!
It's great to see people passionate about respecting the land, working with the environment, and ensuring sustainable practices continue into the future. It's sad that there are so many huge commercial farms (at least here in the US) that don't respect the land or animals at all and cause a lot of harm for the environment. I hope in the UK that any reforms put in place recognize the difference between these situations and focus on those that do not act so responsibly.
That scenery was breath taking.
Thank you so much Cammie for giving us a snapshot into the beauty of other farms and areas.
Brought us right into the scenes- loved the conversations with serious, very knowledgeable guys learning from generation to generation. Bravo, Cammy!
Super video so I interesting and super footage .great work cammy
That was so wonderful to watch. Loved everything about it. Thankyou.
Thanks Shannon
Love love love the scenery! I was born and raised in the rocky mountains of Montana, USA and now live on the prairies in Saskatchewan Canada. I miss the mountains and hills! Loved seeing the ponies as well! Thank you for sharing about the care of the land.
Oh Cammy! Thank you for sharing this. It looks like paradise. How blessed to live there. The Welsh breed is absolutely awesome. Looks like the lion and lamb together.
What a fabulous insight into sheep farming in Wales...it is true, the folk who work the land, know the land and how to best care for it...beautiful sheep they were, and the land also...thank you for this great video that you have brought us...give my love to Lizzy and wee Jock...from Perthshire💌😁🐑🐏✨🖖
Beautiful scenery and wonderful conversation. The elite are doing so much more harm than people imagine.
Brilliant ! The views, the message , the passion , so important, well done Cammy 😊
Thanks Hazel 🥰
Oh what beautiful land and such incredible views. How do those folks ever get anything done, I wonder? Thank you Cammy for bringing us along to get a taste of such beauty. The sheep look healthy and happy there. The people seem so nice. Thank you again.
Quad bikes and sheepdogs make the job far easier
You take us places that we probably won't ever get to see in person Cammie. What a beautiful place!
Beautiful Country ! Thank you for sharing it !🥰😍
And the humor !
Excellent. Well done Cammy and Gareth.
Thanks - Diolch
Yes!!! My dad was born and raised in Wales, I still remember the sheep roaming the streets when we visited his brother. Thanks for the memories mate.
WOW! What a view! With the clouds/fog, almost looks like you could drive right off the face of the earth! Beautiful place to farm, and one heck of an "Office view!" Greetings from Ontario, Canada!
Good country to muster off horses, bugger bouncing around on a quad all bloody day
That's the way our family did it befoure ATVs became commonplace
That mare with the blonde mane is as beautiful as is Wales.
How did you do with your fear of heights? Better with less steep dropoffs?
Was Thomas Murray the company you borrowed your bog monster vehicle from for previous testing?
Simply an amazing video. My grandfather’s grandfather used to tell him stories growing up in Wales on his fathers farm. I hope to someday visit Wales. This is beautiful!
Great video. Gareth hits the nail on the head with his comments on current carbon credit schemes.
Beautiful scenery cammy must be extremely fresh on the breath too awesome clips mate love your content 👍🍺🥃🍺
Wowie that was fabulous! Thanks so much, Cammy. The Welsh sheep have beautiful faces. Those ponies are also living the good life, free and easy on the mountain.
Thanks Tula, definitely a great life for the native ponies
Absolutely beautiful! 👍
Great video! If only there had been a little bit of absolutely stunning scenery worked in... And if only Gareth was a little more passionate... :)
😂😂😂
I try my best 😂
Just put the camera on your shoulder and take us to dinner too. Would LOVE to see all the dishes. I know it's probably rude, but I'm living vicariously here. Love this video! Excellent views.
Stunning, stunning video Cammy, which would put a lot of the so called professional's that work for TV company's to shame.
You also managed to introduce the discussion regarding the environmental issues in to this video as well, which was a joy to hear from people that know what their talking about and didn't learn it in a room.
If this doesn't get picked up by a TV company, then there is no justice in the world.
Thanks you so, so much for this wonderful piece of majestic brilliance. 👍👌🙏
This is so much like my Dads sheep business when I was a kid. I’m 74 now. We rode horses and had a dog most of We kids walked . It took all day getting the sheep off the mountain and down the canyon, onto the highway and up to the entrance of the White River National Forrest.
I agree. I keep rewling the video back because I cant believe how stunningly beautiful this is.
I absolutely love this video! Sustainability 💯! the world needs more videos like this! Thank you
Stunningly beautiful, the scenery and photography a wonderful look at life and the passionate ❤ Thank you for sharing.
Thanks Bernadette, did my best to do the landscape and views justice with the drone shots
Wow! Just wow! This is probably one of the most beautiful videos I have seen of all the UA-cam videos I've ever been watching for so many years. Thank you all so much.
Wow Cathy that means a lot!! Thank you!
AMAZING!!! Cammy, this was fantastic. The area is stunning and I love seeing all those woolly wonders running down the lanes, some on side trips first. The Welsh Mountain sheep is quite handsome. It was so interesting to hear the concerns expressed regarding the environment. Thank you so much....yes it was all AMAZING!
Thanks so much as always Donna! It’s worth all the hours at the computer for this feedback!
A boy Cammy another good video 👍. Beautiful scenery & on quads is an amazing way of gathering sheep. Looks like to much fun though 🤣🤣
Fantastic video you made a great job Cammy. The scenery was amazing nearly as bonnie as Scotland, what lovely people these Welsh farmers are.
Thank you
Awesome. Absolutely stunning scenery. And I always love watching the sheep herd moving. ❤️❤️
What a brilliant video Cammie! A wonderful glimpse into farming the Welsh Highlands with a charming family of an ancient bloodline! And the unbelievable panoramas from the drone footage! I could watch this all day.
I don't know how you do it; with the work, the travel, lambing, PLUS general farming, while then having to sit through all the scene selecting and editing, plus all the music (which I must say, has become very bright and cheerful in the recent months since you went back to mostly Celtic sounds. I love every minute of it.) I just can't tell you how impressed I am with everything you've done. And you still manage to have time for a family. It just boggles the mind!
Thank you again for bringing us along on your adventures!
Thanks so much!! It’s a fair effort sometimes so it’s nice to hear things like this. Make it all worthwhile!
What a beautiful video! Great timing after my local lamb burger meal(: love Jack the Russel-ler of sheep, that is a classic day on the farm, everything goes smoothly until it doesn’t. The ponies!
Amazing scenery and tremendous camera work!
