    The Ed Sullivan Show was a television variety program that aired on CBS from 1948-1971. For 23 years it aired every Sunday night and played host to the world's greatest talents. The Ed Sullivan Show is well known for bringing rock n' roll music to the forefront of American culture through acts like Elvis Presley, The Beatles, and The Rolling Stones. The entertainers each week ranged from comedians like Joan Rivers and Rodney Dangerfield, to Broadway stars Julie Andrews and Richard Burton, to pop singers such as Bobby Darin and Petula Clark. It also frequently featured stars of Motown such as The Supremes, The Temptations, Stevie Wonder and The Jackson 5. The Ed Sullivan Show was one of the only places on American television where such a wide variety of popular culture was showcased and its legacy lives on to this day.

    Liza's voice and personality make anything she touched sound great.

      Yes, and in this case she was making silk out of a sow's ear. She is far better than this drippy song. The original by Blood Sweat and Tears is not one of my favorites.

    The Brass Buttons were from Rochester NY. The Rascals' guitarist Gene Cornish brought them to Atlantic Records, where they issued a few singles. Their appearance on Sullivan with Liza was the talk of our hometown. Glad to see this posted.

    Salute to Brenda Holloway co-writing this great classic.

      Brenda didn't "co-write" this sing. She was the original lyricist with her sister Patrice. Berry Gordy only stuck his nose into this song for credits, but it was Brenda's song to begin with.

    Liza was always a superb performer and entertainer. She was wonderful in "The Sterile Cuckoo"., "Junie Moon", "Cabaret" and "Arthur". It is a shame her movie career melted. Upon winning the Oscar she dumped her manager Stevie Phillips and this was a big mistake. Liza after Cabaret was hot and Stevie was very savvy about what films were right for Liza. Her new management booked her in concert after concert and had no vision about her film career. Liza appeared in dull leading lady roles that were not right for her. "Lucky Lady" was one. The film had possibilities but was poorly written. Even with Burt Reynolds, Gene Hackman, and Liza, it fizzled at the box office. "A Matter of Time" was a cheap disjointed mess that immediately flopped. Her film career never recovered. "Arthur" was a wonderful exception. Liza and Dudley Moore were wonderful together.

    Didn't Diana Ross wear the same kind of suit during the 1972 Oscar's in hopes that she'll win for Lady sings the Blues, but in a different color?

    • @MrRickyMoody
      @MrRickyMoody 3 роки тому

      Yes sorta (Diana’s was silver & better looking)in her entrance but then she changed into a black dress with black fur.

    • @ernestchacon4928
      @ernestchacon4928 3 роки тому +1

      @@MrRickyMoody Yes, but Diana is known to copy others to her advantage. I guess that's why she didn't win the Oscar, Hollywood is very aware of those stunts.

      @@ernestchacon4928 LOL. That’s NOT why she lost the Oscar. 😎
