Finally, SOMEONE giving paper Mario attention when Nintendo doesn't even acknowledge its existence (Edit): Yes I realize they just announced origami king, so you don't need to keep commenting on it!
The name "Big Bertha" actually comes from the "Dicke Bertha", the nickname given by WW1 German soldiers to the Minenwerfer-Gerät siege howitzer. Allied forces quickly adopted "Big Bertha" as a way to call basically any big artillery gun the Germans had, and after the war, became a synonym for "massive thing", hence the nickname of Worcestershire's Lickey Banker steam locomotive.
@@afuzzycreature8387 is the underwater one actually called Big Bertha? Because when I was younger and got the game on NES I always thought that and I found out it was Boss Bass like 2 years ago
Super Paper Mario is probably my favorite game of all time and it’s so sad that it’s so underrated and forgotten. I’m so glad that my favorite level made it on this list.
Well, it was straightforward in terms of gameplay, but in the other departments it does distinguish from the classic Mario blueprint. The world weren't themed around deserts, seas or snowy areas, having instead forests, mountains, large caverns and even a pair of bridges (think about it: A world based on TWO FREAKING BRIDGES!!). Even SMB2, with all the talk at how different it is, is closer to the setting collection by having its worlds themed around deserts, snow and sky. Another thing that makes it stand out is that, while it has many familiar enemies, some of them behave in ways that aren't seen again: Koopas that are expelled from their shells when hit, Boos that are grouped in a swarm-like pattern in the Ghost Houses, Pokeys that vary their size depending on whether you were approaching them alone or with Yoshi, and attack patterns for the Koopalings that aren't seen in the other games (for example, Wendy doesn't use her rings, nor does Iggy throw balls or even maneuvers above one). Lastly, unlike most Mario games where Fortresses serve as mid-world challenges, here in World only one has that purpose (in Chocolate Island); the others are well out of the way

I feel like the Paper Mario one was taken out of context. It's not weird, is supposed to prevent a feeling of hopelessness and to raise the stakes. It's like this as the world was just destroyed.
9:00 most might forget it but it's too important to me and my childhood to forget about it! I spent hours on it exploring the weird and fascinating worlds and interacting with the equally as weird NPCs even the story gives me major nostalgia! I could never forget my favorite paper mario game.
The thing about Super Mario Odyssey is, nearly every Kingdom is designed with a weird contrast of some sort. Cap kingdom is simultaneously ghost and hat themed, Cascade is full of live dinosaurs and fossils alike, Sand is a freezing desert, Lake is full of fish people who live in air-filled domes underwater, Wooded is a bunch of robots on a steel structure that have made it into a thriving garden of all things, Cloud doesn’t count, Lost is a jungle made of plastic, Metro is a blend of realism and cartoons, Snow has the warmest, coziest aura I’ve ever seen, Seaside isn’t as clear as the others, Luncheon is made of food that’s made of inedible crystal, Ruined is suddenly Dark Souls, Bowser’s is a fantasy kingdom stylized after a real ancient civilization... in a sense, they’re ALL the weirdest!
In Super Mario 3 the weirdest for me is the abandoned fortress in world 7, i mean you start in a room full of blocks then you go to another one that is completely empty no enemies although you can see where they should have been, then you find a power-up that can go from a mushroom to a fire flower, but there is no clue about why you need them if there is no enemies or what exactly you can do with them and finally you can be running in circles until time out. And what puts the cherry is that you need to obtain a hidden Tanooki suit to get out of there through a pipe that is way above a cross...is like a figurative way of saying that you are trapped in a cursed place and you need a holy power to exorcise it an escape from the loop. By the way thank you for including Super paper Mario, to this day i don't get why the hate it just tried to go one step further into a darker undertone.
The creepiest in SMB1 is -1, obviously. The creepiest in SMB2 (US) is 7-2 because it's so long and dungeony, and at the end all the phantos watching you fight King Wart. The creepiest in SMBTLL is 9-1 because it's a purple underwater level that feels very unnormal. The creepiest in SMB3 is 2-quicksand for it's angry sun that wants Mario dead. The creepiest in SML is 3-2, even though it still isn't very creepy. The creepiest in SMW is Choco-Ghost House because all the enemies look just so, spooky. Though not a level, Space Zone in SML2:6GC has a moon that gets hit by a star then the moon gets a creepy face. The same game, Turtle Zone's 3rd level you go into a whales... insides, and there's sharp teeth and squishy things, and at the end there's a mean octopus. The creepiest in 64 is big boo's haunt because of the piano. The creepiest in SMS is Sirena Beach Episode 5 because King Boo. The creepiest in NSMB is World 8-3 because of the giant eel that chases you for half the stage. The creepiest in SMG is Bonefin Galaxy Kingfin's Fearsome Waters because of the giant bone fish you fight, and that intro with the teeth, that's pretty scary! The creepiest in NSMBW is World 8-1 because of the poisonous gas you're running from. SMG2 Hell Valley Sky Trees, do I need to say anything else?! The creepiest in SM3DL is 4-4, because of the ghost that appears in the background at the flagpole at 170 on the timer. The creepiest level in NSMB2 is 2-ghost house because of the very mega sized boo, it's bigger than king boo! The creepiest in NSMBU is Soda Jungle-4 Painted Swampland, because the spooky background paintings, especially the giant Bowser at the end. The creepiest in SM3DW is World Castle-5 Trick Trap Tower because of the quickly moving purple clouds that you need to avoid while running down the tower. Finally, the creepiest in SMO is ruined kingdom because of how broken and dark it is, and it's big, scary dragon! That's my list of the creepiest Mario levels. Hope you liked it!
I think the 2-3 in super mario land being a submarine is a reference to how SMB1 was originally planned to play like that in a coin-heaven-like environment.
@@LabeBrett I think the fact he sold it as confidently as he did actually takes the sting off it a little......despite the pain of an american pronouncing any county ever
You included the "Manta" Ray @8:08 stage as strange and i wanted to give a little background, The Mobula Ray was believed to fly because it would leap out of the water getting around 2 meters out of the water before falling back in. They had some fun Legends in sailing history about them because of this which gives a little more insight to the Rays jumping in and out of the stage
I would say the Whoa Zone in Super Paper Mario is also really weird. (10:18-10:26) Isn't the second fortress of world 3 in SMB3 also mostly underwater?
3:39 Torpedo Ted is found in new super mario bros U. This is disappointing that you did not do your research. I mean, come on, you shouldn't make mistakes like this. Please address that.

@@gddanielk8491 I'm from London, say i definitely say wuh-ster, but its not a big deal at all. Almost every American I've met says wor-cest-sher-shai-rr
6-a in nsmb also had a weird star coin, you basically jump down a sand pit, which, while any other case it would kill you, in _this_ case only it takes you to a sub level with the coin
Must say, I disagree with most of the early entries here, I know we all have our own opinion, but there are some objective facts to contend with: 1. The CheepCheep bridge level actually comes up twice, in worlds 2 and 7, whereas the mushroom platform level 4-3 only comes up once, so that one is clearly the most out of place (although forshadowed in 4-2). 2. Totally agree viz the whale level. Thar she blowes ... 3. The level with the rising water is reprised several times on world 3 and 4. But world 3 does have a unique level that isn't present anywhere else in the game: level 3-7, the one with the green hummocks. Land: Again the submarine level is very similar to the final level, so I would say something like 2-2 and 4-2 are more stand alone. Although I do take your point about the submarine level's overall uniqueness in the whole Mario cannon ... Land2: These levels are all quite different to one another, so Pumpkin Zone is a good shout. Personally I would go Hippo Level myself, because of the unique levitation method. Wario: Just as a bonus, that bog in that you have to traverse, drain and then traverse again is quite wierd. I would otherwise have mentioned the right > left scrolling railway level, but that does occur twice. I never went beyond NIntendo and Gameboy so my experience ends there. Enjoyable vid : - )
Tiny Huge Island is based on that World 4 level in SMB3, where you could go through doors to switch between huge and tiny. So it's not really out of left field.
10:22 this style only appears in one other title, Vanilla Fortress in Super Mario World What about parts of NSMBW 4-Castle? What about NSMBU 3-Castle? *What about 3-Fortress from the same game?*
Some of my picks for weirdest levels in the first few games: Super Mario Bros. - level 6-3, where every platform and set piece is white, with the black night background. The only level to basically be this way. And maybe the two castles with patterns are weirdest as well. Super Mario Bros. 3 - The world 4 level where you can go into doors to switch between having the enemies be big or normal-sized; the last level before going to the second map screen in Super Mario Bros. 3, where the ending is different from all other levels, ending by going into an upside-down pipe (and if you go in the pipe at the top of the map to go back to the first screen, you have to play this one again to go back); The first fortress of world 7, where there's no enemies (except Boom-Boom), a few items enemies come from are there but empty, and it can be hard to figure out how to exit. Super Mario World - the dolphins level; The level in Chocolate Mountain where each part of the level changes based on how many coins you get and how fast you complete each section.
I really enjoyed the video! That said... I thought about half your choices were off. That might be because you’re avoiding mentioning levels you’ve mentioned in previous levels, but there are a few I was shocked you didn’t pick.
In SMB3 there's Giant Land(world4), where enemies are huge but if you enter a door they become small (not smaller than you, but this was the first glimpse for that idea)
Would have loved to see your choice for the original Paper Mario. I'm new to your videos and from what I can gather from the comments it's a small victory that any Paper Mario made it in. Lol so it's all good. Good video, man.

@@amazingfireboy1848 The dedication
@Dragon Kirby it was late at night, I didn't want to describe a lot. I fixed it, though.
@@amazingfireboy1848 how are some of those things creepy? they're just normal level gimmicks.
@@jclkaytwo what would you put?
I think the 2-3 in super mario land being a submarine is a reference to how SMB1 was originally planned to play like that in a coin-heaven-like environment.
Promise me you’ll never pronounce Worcestershire like that again in your life and I’ll subscribe
He may be wrong but he said it more confidently than any other American I know would have
@@LabeBrett I think the fact he sold it as confidently as he did actually takes the sting off it a little......despite the pain of an american pronouncing any county ever
Thenmsub to me bub playz

@@dx.feelgood5825 Well, my channel is doing kinda bad, so I need all the subs I can get
for anybody wondering about the world of nothing. its meant to show the player what happens when the void devours a world
Alright, I subbed. You put out some pretty damn good videos.
Marty Mcfly 88MPH sane here, i’m really enjoying going through his content.
Yes! Finally someone includes Super Paper Mario! Love that game💖
Same
how on earth was the GIANT FREAKING DARK SOULS DRAGON not the weirdest level?!? it looked straight out of dark souls
That's actually Boss Bass that appears in 3-3 & 3-8. Big Bertha is the one that appears in 3-5, and a few other underwater levels.
"Mr. L is just Luigi"
Wow, I can't believe you would spoil that totally not obvious secret for a game that came out many years ago!
Wow, I can’t believe you found the joke!
You included the "Manta" Ray @8:08 stage as strange and i wanted to give a little background,
The Mobula Ray was believed to fly because it would leap out of the water getting around 2 meters out of the water before falling back in. They had some fun Legends in sailing history about them because of this which gives a little more insight to the Rays jumping in and out of the stage
"Super Mario Bros is the first Mario game."
*Angry arcade game noises*
Donkey Kong and Mario Bros (not to be confused with super mario bros)
@@cg0825 If you want to get really technical, he wasn't Mario in Donkey Kong, he was Jumpman.
I would say the Whoa Zone in Super Paper Mario is also really weird.
(10:18-10:26) Isn't the second fortress of world 3 in SMB3 also mostly underwater?
That one Mr l level had nothing.
The entire place has been destroyed by the pure heart.
And then you fight the mysterious Mr l!
You comment on loads of videos. Huh.
So that’s how Luigi wins by doing absolutely nothing.
Edge lord what's your favorite anime?
@@joshwright8255 yugioh 5ds
It was destroyed by Count Bleck, not the pure heart. Also everyone in that dimension died.... pretty dark for a Mario game.
i love. i love super paper mario. thank you for including this game. literally my favorite paper mario dont @ me please :(
Try playing the weirdest levels in super Mario maker 2
SUPER PAPER MARIO IS MY FAVORITE GAME. I’m so happy to see you added it and so sad to see it forgotten...
"The torpedo ted never came back on another Mario game."
Didnt they appear in the World 3 castle of NSMBU?
or in super mario galaxy (buoy base galaxy)
underwater level: *exists*
copycat: you're the weirdest thing I ever saw omg lol
3:39
Torpedo Ted is found in new super mario bros U. This is disappointing that you did not do your research. I mean, come on, you shouldn't make mistakes like this. Please address that.
@@Crash-MM2 frik, ok sorry, im dum dum, ima delete this
hes also in smg1 in buoy base galaxy
9:20
it wasn't the comunity that named the hell valley sky trees, this is their name on the game's code that dataminers found on the game's code.
7:51 you’re a great UA-camr and all but being queasy from meat on bones is kind of wimpy.
Having meat on the bones makes it look like the enemy bait in the original Legend of Zelda-perhaps that explains it.
2:32 sorry m8 it’s pronounced “wuster” sheer or shire ikr sorry about that
Dan K yes that was pretty cringe ngl
Canadians pronounce it a really stupid way I’m sorry for that! It’s probably because of the sauce , we are weird apologies
Copycat in England accents r proper different which some NA people don’t get. I live up north so that’s how we say it. Sort of hard and not “posh” but London and south counties pronounce it differently cause of accent. The sauce is good anyway so who cares
Dan K yeah we have drastically different accents here too depending on where your from, definitely don’t mean to upset anyone I mean I get mad when people say Toronto wrong pol
@@gddanielk8491 I'm from London, say i definitely say wuh-ster, but its not a big deal at all. Almost every American I've met says wor-cest-sher-shai-rr
Love your videos! You have an excellent narrative voice. Many thanks.
Soda Lake was weird in Super Mario World, sure, but had nothing on Mondo.
Please do "The Coolest Level in every Mario game"
Wouldn't they all be ice levels?
Hahahahahahahaha
No
i liked in 2 how some of the levels went up and also how you could dig under the beginning of one of the sand levels
Where's Mario Maker?! You could've totally looked over the official levels included in the game and the sequel as well.
Thank you for recognizing the best Mario game, Super Paper Mario
9:46 aww yes, 69 is bacc
4:40 and 10:17 also have 69 coins
I think the weirdest kingdom in SMO is Luncheon, just because it’s made out of literal food. Keep up the amazing videos!
Worcestershire is not pronounced like that sorry
Avoiding ones you've mentioned in other videos is awesome! Thanks for not ripping off your viewers
6-a in nsmb also had a weird star coin, you basically jump down a sand pit, which, while any other case it would kill you, in _this_ case only it takes you to a sub level with the coin
Must say, I disagree with most of the early entries here, I know we all have our own opinion, but there are some objective facts to contend with:
I love quirky things! Weird stuff needs more love!
Great video!! Really love your channel. It’s all the games I play without somebody screaming every 5 seconds. Good job!!!👍
Love that Super Paper Mario representation👏
Tiny Huge Island is based on that World 4 level in SMB3, where you could go through doors to switch between huge and tiny. So it's not really out of left field.
The world of nothing was creepy and the music used only accentuates that feeling
Doki Doki Panic was actually initially developed as a vertically based Mario game, so it’s not as illegitimate as many claim!
The animation on the SMB2 ending is greats, surprised they didn't have something like that in the intro, would have been nice to showcase
10:22 this style only appears in one other title, Vanilla Fortress in Super Mario World
What about parts of NSMBW 4-Castle?
What about NSMBU 3-Castle?
*What about 3-Fortress from the same game?*
Ah yes, a Halloween levels inside a pumpkin are out of place, but getting eaten by a giant tutrle which has a whale inside it is completely normal?
Part of Bower's Castle in SMW also has an underwater portion in it, if you go through the right door for it that is.
Been watching you for a while but I finally subbed 😁 can’t wait til you hit 100k 🙏🏻 you deserve it
Some of my picks for weirdest levels in the first few games:
Super Mario Bros.
It is the water rising, but in the old graphics, it honestly looks like the ground is moving.
It would be interesting to see a top 10 video about the weirdest Mario Maker 2 levels you have seen :)
I haven’t forgotten super paper MARIO
For NSMB 6-A another weird thing is that sub area with a star coin that can only be accessed by sinking into quicksand
What a cool video. It’s the first one I’ve seen of yours and I’m now a subscriber. Keep up the good work
4:39 nice coins
Would have loved to see your choice for the original Paper Mario. I'm new to your videos and from what I can gather from the comments it's a small victory that any Paper Mario made it in. Lol so it's all good. Good video, man.
Also, I feel like cleaning the eel's teeth is the weirdest!
The bullet bill torpedo WAS in a different mario game. It was in mario bros for wii u and mario bros for switch
Super Paper Mario was one of my favorite games in the Paper Mario series. I wish I could play it again. The only reason I would even wants a Wii is to finish that game as I was unable to beat it in the short time I spent at my cousin's place.
3:38 the torpedos are seen again underwater in new super mario bros deluxe on the switch. I'm not sure about anywhere else but that's what I've seen them on recently
You're growing super fast! So well deserved!
Super paper Mario is my fav Mario game ever it’s so much fun and it will never be forgotten
12:10 it also looks exactly like the vacuum thing lala invented in episode 1 of ToLoveRu
Honestly I think that level in Super Mario Sunshine where you were transported to a tiny island with grass and had to collect red coins was the weirdest one.
5:44 But there's three of them... One ahead, one to the left, and one to the right. You can actually enter the level regular-sized.
"The thing that sets Super Mario World apart from all previous entries in the series is how different it is"
Fucking WHAT!? LOL
The thing you call a "flying foot" is a living umbrella.
It's a type of Yokai,or a Japanese monster.
came here to correct that, glad I wasn't alone in going "A FLYING FOOT?!"
