ESI-4000 Classic Lowpass Filter with LFO & Envelope Modulation
Вставка
- Опубліковано 1 жов 2024
- A whole lot of LFO & a whole lot of modulation makes this filter even better than it already is. Although the E-MU ESI4000 has a number of filter types on it the filter feature in this video is the classic low pass filter from the ESI-32.

Formations in Rhythm is a dense sample based work placed against environmental sounds recorded in Toronto during the spring and summer of 2015. The result is nothing short of beautiful. The experience expands as this music provides the perfect backdrop for chapter X the tale of Tau, Adaima, Navv and the Twins who were first revealed in the EBook/Album “Passage To Alkebulan”.

Just ordered an esi32, I couldn't stand what my mpc 1000 LP filter where doing to my samples by sucking the life out of them.
What's up man! Congrats on picking up an ESI32! Thanks for watching!!!!
i managed to get one for $25. im a lucky man. fully functioning Turbo, no Zip though. Just been messing around with the floppy drive before I hook up an external Zip. ---I Don't wat to mess it up!
What's up George! That's an amazing deal! Congrats!
Do you think the ESI 4000 and the SP 1200 are a good combination? Akso can i connect them together via midi and operate it the same way as usung the s950 with the 1200?
LOVE THAT FILTER!!!!.... you're making me really my miss ESI 32
no software I've heard can emulate (you see what I did there) that
+Ron Edwards What up Bruv! Yeah I definitely saw what you did Lol! The ESI series are difficult but they sound so good! I used to have an ESI-2000 and I actually thought it sounded a bit warmer than the 4000 but I'm really happy with it nonetheless.
The Daydream Sound do you agree with the comment that no software can emulate this? I am doubting between getting this hardware or software.
It must be my month. Your definitely inspiring more creative use of gear that I own. Keep em coming.
+Netm8kr It sure is!
Very nice!! I have one of these in the attic. I think I better get it out of retirement after seeing your video :-)
+Richard James Thanks man! It's a great sounding sampler.
I’d been sleeping on EMU for a long time. Just scored a fully updated (screen, scsi2sd) turbo for ~$450. Expensive compared to what some other folks paid but then the screen is likely to die and the scsi2sd is up to date. Your videos are very inspiring
Musical even with high resonance and preserves harmonics all through the sweep, yeah E-mu! :)
What's up man!!!! It's a great sounding filter for sure!!!
I have emu 4000 with the turbo option lovely warm and deep sounds filters are hectic I love them
What's up Christopher!!!! Thanks for watching!!! Yep!!! The E-MU ESI series samplers sound great!!!!!!!
great video dude!! I did a quick video showing how to use the mod wheel on the ESI VCF cutoff. Such a good sound on that lowpass!! bigup
Hi, do you know if it is possible to use it as an external filter to process the signal live ?
What's up LeeO! Thanks for reaching out! I haven't tried it but I don't think it's possible with the ESI 4000's filter.
Hahah I've suggested this machine to u before . Not knowing u already had it.
wow, just so smooth I hear what you were saying about the filter now.
+DJ SABZI What's up man! It's a really nice filter!
can make automation using the emu filters via ableton?
What's up Heitor! Thanks for reaching out! I've never tried it but it might be possible.
This is sounding like magic out of my Rokit 5s.
+MarvelousProductions What up Bruv! Yeah the ESI series samplers sound amazing!
How do you assign these parameters to a midi control?
I m going crazy
What's up man!!!! Thanks for reaching out!!! I've never tried it.
Checking my manual, they're on Midi channels 0-31 and 64-79
I get most use out the 6 pole filters and the amazing hipass
Did you have the zip installed? I just picked up an ESI2000 & have an internal drive. Would like to figure out how to set it up
The 4000Turbo comes with the zip installed.
I've tried to find a softsoft to replace my ESI 4000 rack, but nothing really even comes close to it. :(
try the TAL-Sampler VST.
E-MU also made a sampler VST that has the same filters..but its not really commercially available anymore
Hey @thedaydreamsound why is it that I can't change the filter in real time how you're doing it? I sampled a synth and unless I hit the keys again, I don't hear any change in the filter. I just bought the ESI4000 v.3.2 so I'm having trouble.
Just keep the keys playing with other hand or use an external keyboard with a latch (to keep key note on). The filter on these is much more than shown here. Not just different types (but check because many sample libraries have the cutoff at essentially infinity for a LP ... I.e. off!!). But also because each key can have a different filter if you like.
Beautiful sounds!
Thanks!
I also bought this sampler today for 50 euros.. because software sample(player)rs have so bad and flat sounding filters. This sampler has so much character in its sound. Something that software just cannot deliver..
I have been also developing my own software sampler with a pretty good 4pole analog sounding filter with a good low-end bass as a hobby. But once again, I had to move to hardware samplers to get that unique sound. I think it's more because of (crappy) D/A converters that make the final character into the sound
@@myrskyv78 samplers should (I believe) be measured against their "time". In the early days lo-fi was the best one could get. Eventually sampling because verbatim - and yet some of the most sought after instruments had lo-fi and/or bit crushing and bat phasor filters - your crappy D2A might just give your instrument character - I think good analogue filters on DCOs can sound awesome - and some digital filters are cool too
this is so fresh
+MRBILLHANCOCK What's up man! Much appreciated!
Being born and bred on Akai here in the UK (started with s700 then s2800/s950 combo) I've had little exposure to the American designs. Hearing your demo of the ESI32 filter - it rocks! Hardware samplers are still crazy cheap with only 12-bit machines like s950, E-Max etc or MPC60/SP12/1200s fetching high prices. I must get a couple before people catch on. I've heard the filter is nice on the Yamaha A series as well.
What's up man! Yeah the E-MU filters are definitely amazing! Each manufacturer has their own sound of filter for sure. I haven't heard very much Yamaha gear myself but it's definitely worth looking into.
On a side note. I've noticed that the UK was definitely an Akai country! Not a bad thing at all!
Yes - that's a pretty fair assessment. I started using samplers in the mid-90s around the peak of dance music. Most people I knew had Akai and so I chose the same so I could get help when I needed it (no real internet then!). Also, you can share/collaborate more easily if you use similar kit of course. I think clusters of Akai users was a big part of Akai's market domination back then. It's only now that I'm even aware of just how great some other brands sounded. Subscribed :-)
i picked up an ESI 4000 TURBO last month with SCSI2SD and 32MB RAM this little Monster makes me very happy.
When everyone thinks this baby is not up to date.....this one has no idea what he is talking about! ;)
controlling the filters with an external faderbox is much more funny !: )
