      Indeed, you are wrong. Teddy Riner cannot get any more points in Lima, because only the 5 best results from the last 12 months counts. Riner have already filled all these slots, but Saito haven't. Thus, even if Riner gets gold and Saito gets silver, Saito will earn 70 points and Riner earns nothing. To be honest, I don't get why Riner is competing in Lima.

      @@alparjuttner9095 Maybe as practice against Saito without possible drawback (except injury, Buddha willing)? I was here hoping for a shared first place in Lima; but that's impossible with two generic opponents plus Saito and Riner.

      @@alparjuttner9095 Maybe he can lose on purpose and fight against Saito in the bronze match. But this is the situation, there are 4 people in +100 in Lima, and because Riner is seeded 1st he will fight the semi final before Saito, so if Riner wins, Saito loses on purpose and fight bronze and vice versa

    Everyone fighting everyone and seeing how has the most wins is called round robin.

    • @alparjuttner9095
      @alparjuttner9095 Місяць тому

      It won't be a round-robin. According to the competition outlines (page 14), the rules for 4 competitors: _Elimination_ system with two (2) _pools of two (2)_ single contests, then a contest between the two (2) losers _of each pool_ for the single bronze medal and a contest between the two (2) winners _of each pool_ for the gold and silver medals.

    Not exactly. If they have equal points, then an additional rule applies: "In case of equality of total points, the higher ranking will be decided by:
    ⚫ The highest sum of the current points from all World Championships.
    ⚫ The highest sum of the current points from all Grand Prix, Grand Slams and Masters.
    ⚫ The highest current points from one single event, then, if needed, the second highest, and so on."

    Finally, the original ranking was restored by Saito in Lima. He had 3 fights - 29, 12 and 28 seconds, respectively. Teddy was eventually withdrawn. Someone probably explained him that it makes no sense for him to go there.

    I am not sure about this story. If I am not mistaken, seeding is done based on the world ranking list, not based on the olympic ranking list. (To quote from the IJF FAQ: "Individual events will use the quarter-final repechage competition system with top 8 (eight) seeding according to the IJF Senior World Ranking List of the Olympic qualification period." In the WRL, Tasoev is no. 3, Riner is no. 6, and Saito is no. 7.

    • @aqiria
      @aqiria Місяць тому +2

      No they are seeding based on Olympic rankings, I inquired about that with IJF. Why else do you think Riner is going out of his way to move up 1 spot (and Saito doing it back to him as well)

    • @JudoHighlights2015

    I had no idea how judo in olympics works. So they already have playoffs set and the judokas just come to do the playoff matches they have been assigned to? Are we expecting Tasoev to take it home if they are so concerned about him?

    • @chrisgeorge7809
      @chrisgeorge7809 Місяць тому +2

      There is a seeding system for the top eight and repechage for everyone. Practically speaking, it means it's often single elimination but if the person who beat you keeps winning, you may still be alive and might end up competing for one of the bronze medals for instance. Seeding is based on Olympic ranking from points in these tournaments.
