Hi Petri. I'm going to have to move to your part of Finland to have access to all these records you find! Had a quick browse on UA-cam for some of these... Always liked gamelan music - a big influence on the minimalist composers I like such as Reich and Glass - would love to find that album. The jasper album sounds pretty up my street with that 70s bluesy prog. I absolutely loved the Ondekoza LP - I'm a big fan of percussion music. Saw the Kodo drummers from Japan live many years ago and they were so powerful... superb. Alwari did an LP in the Pop Liisa series of albums that Svart put out a few years back. It was all covers of songs by bands like Wishbone Ash, Uriah Heep, and the Moody Blues. It was very well done. The System Tandem album was a bit hit or miss for me, but that was just on a quick sampling so would probably need to listen to them a bit more. I couldn't find that album Origini, but I did sample a couple of their earlier albums. I'm afraid these didn't do a lot for me - didn't like the vocals. But I did enjoy what I heard by Makvirag. Been listening to quite a bit of European folk recently - mostly French, but also some Italian, Hungarian and others. Nice video again... all the best... Pete
Hi Pete, i didnt know that Alwari is part of the Pop Liisa serie. I would love to see Japanese drumming live, can imagine it raising on the new level on live and same with gamelan. I like the heavy feeling on this Gamelan record, the pace and rhytm, also some instrumental heavy doom bands comes to mind along the names you wrote. I have also listened quite a lot French and German folk lately but mainly online, some of i am hoping to see someday in wild. Saw on one vc channel Antoine Tome album which is superb bit jazzy latin and middle eastern influenced folk. The Jasper album is at least really good sounding vinyl as being bootleg. As what goes to the Italian one, as me being a fan of subgenre, its hard to understand that its not easy to say anything positive about the music, lol. Always great to hear your thoughts of the stuff Pete. Have a great week, cheers, -petri.
Lots of interesting finds again Petri. The Bouzouki is an intriguing instrument to me. It naturally seems to sound quite bright, so poor audio could be less forgiving quick I would think. The Finnish - German duo is interesting. Might be a Bandcamp download purchase. Too much shipping from Europe gets spendy. Alwari will definitely be something I need to seek out. I have been listening to some older Finnish harder rock lately after finding rerelases of Elonkorjuu and Kalevala. Makvirag sounds enjoyable. I have been spending some time with Bulgarian folk inspired music lately, Ivan Papasov and his Wedding Band. Southeast European folk seems to speak to me. Cheers, Richard
Hi Richard, nice to hear from you as always, that Papasov sounded great after short check, i like the clarinet. Yes i think Kalevala has great reputation here also. Tuohitorvi is maybe a bit "poppier', track Taikajuoma was my favourite then at twelve years:) I have not actually ordered via postage anything for couple of years now but of course i had to do that back then when i wanted my favourite RPI and psych on vinyl, lol. Now its just locals, fairs and when travelling. I like the Gryke pyje stuff because its sort of easy listening but somehow not. Have a great week and cheers, -petri
Gryke Pyje sounds pretty good, I listened to some of it off Bandcamp. Looks like there's are a bunch of artist on that label. Looking at the YT video from Turku, looks like a nice place to live and visit. Do most people in Finland speak English?
Hi Dave, yes nowadays people speak or at least should, lol, can english pretty well because we have it at school for eight years few hours per week. Turku is indeed beautiful and the size suites well for me. We used to take often daycruises to archipelago. I think the towns shipyard makes huge cruisers for example to Caribbean use also. Glad that you tried and liked gryke pyje, I like to read with their music but i think it can be also used as deep listening, there seems to be loads of little labels that makes cassettes and also some vinyls. There is no enough time to go through all the stuff, lol. Always a pleasure to hear from you Dave and catch your Whats up videos. Thanks, -Petri
Lol i have that la turquie lp too..got it last year..nice record. Pyje sounds interesting as for as modern lp's go. I have that gamelan lp..natural trance and psychedelic music. Alot of ancient music has a ritualistic and naturalistic quality that always appeals to me. I like some good bouzouki music..i have a real interesting one i will try to show if i ever make another video..lol. I also always think of it's great use in the suspira soundtrack by goblin..as well as an outstanding italian ethno folk/jazz rock outfit called maad whose one lp i highly recommend. Have several takio drums lp's and like pete commented have seen some live and it is quite powerful and even spiritual too and also has that ritual component i like..i think i have that one with a different cover as i several from that particular ensemble. I think the whole finnish progressive music scene was really interesting and little discussed..of course i love alot of the jazz rock from that era of finnish music. Too me system tadem is a minor classic on japo..two truly great musicians connecting there..stivin in particular did some outstanding solo lp's in 70's and 80's. Those makvirag are on my want list i like there stuff but yet too pick any of there lp's up..there in the vain of other similar bands kolinda and makem both of whom i love much..nice too see you brother..hope all is well with you and yours..much love chris
Hi Chris, great to hear from you and some of your thoughts of the stack as always. I actually just quite recently got that japo and on one sunny saturday it worked really well. Some of the new stuff is so that beside influences are obvious you have to appreciate if music is well done. And the Finnish guy of Pyje has also made cd of fieldrecording in India so I guess he is into some sort of tribal vibes, lol. That spiritual and ritualistic aspect of some ethnic and ancient music is good thing especially for me because all my favourite neopsych tracks have same elements in some doses at least. I see that I have had Maad in wantlist, that needs maybe online revisit, and also need some Kolinda in collection. Hope you are well too, -Petri
I would not worry about subscribers at all (in relation to another comment here). Spring is here at last. Its been dull grey winter here, rain and blandness. Interesting how my vinyl finds always get more views than other ones. I just did a response and people don't generally have time to watch a dozen replies to a thread though it is a sociable thing to do. Hope you are okay and didn't suffer a sore back leaning against that wall 😉
Martin, thats a good point, threads can be funny and sociable. Its quite difficult to say the optimum amount of subscribers for myself, but if I all of a sudden got hundreds of new subs I probably stop making videos, lol. Its not spring here, just week and half ago got even tiny snowstorm here in south, takatalvi!! My right side of lower back nerve likes when i am leaning like that direction, believe it or not:), Cheers.
@@hatripekala4983 ah yes I heard about the back blow afterthought winter. More subs and views well it's irrelevant unless it's a career I guess, those retired people with more time on their hands have more potential to do that but it's a social life from home which I thought was more generation X and after not baby boomers. Anyway.
It's been a while, another fantastic eclectic bunch of records. I don't understand the vinyl community at all. Some girl shows crap pop albums and gets a thousand views. Some bloke shows a boring bunch of Stones, Beatles or Floyd albums, which are good but everyone has them, and gets 2000 subscribers. Showing different obscure records gets ignored.
Hello M! When keeping a longer pause at making videos, it is really hard to start again. During the last year I lost one sub and got one new, perhaps it was the same person:) Thanks for the support pal, -petri
