Also remember these cadets are all basically 15 years old, and most have never seen a titan or someone die until now.

I've always interpreted the pomegranate as a metaphor for life. It's one of the most difficult fruits to consume because you're after the seeds, but they're DELICIOUS! Pom = Difficult, but worth it. Life = Cruel, but worth it.

This is probably the best episode of season 1, and one of the best in the show. Mikasa at her absolute best. Kono sekai wa zankoku da. Soshite, totemo utsukushi (This world is cruel but very beautiful) is one of my favorite quotes.

And there’s 2 more inside. So yeah, the wall is pretty impressive but when I heard that it blew my mind.

None of the reactors realize that the scene from the beginning is the supply base, the captain runs away with his 2 subordinates, leaving the other unexperience member unsupervise stuck inside. Later, Showing Jean said the supply team didn't help them and blame them for not helping. Actually the one who's to blame is Captain Kitz Woermann, he's a coward that nearly kill Armin, Mikasa and Eren on later episode.

Late comment but the pomegranate has a meaning Anime takes alot of inspiration from greek mythology The pomegranate in greek myth is one of or the only fruits to grow in hades. Hades wife ate it. If you eat it in hades you stay there forever. Depending on the version of the story, hades wife willingly ate of it to be with hades for eternity. Another symbol is the scarf. In anime theres something called the red threat/steing of fate. Symbolizes when two characters/souls are connected for eternity through time and space. In greek myth it means the same thing and is one of the only threads the aisters of fate cant cut or alter. In the anime Mikasas scarf is the symbol for the red thread
I never finished season 3 of AOT cause I got busy with work back when it was airing, but seeing these reactions is making me want to go back and finish season 3 and then the rest of the anime. 😁

Jean can't just "save them" it's swarming with titans, if somoene tries to save a comrade he will be caught and die that's all and if another one tries then three people wil die instead of two, ect That's why they were all standing, a great soldier can only measure up to one titan at a time, if there are many it's too much ( Mikasa is an exception not the rule )
