      As you said in your video buy an equivalent car to what your mates have, I have an idea for yous since you bought the cheapest example in the country, find a car you both like and one of you buy the cheapest example and the other buy the most expensive example in the country, see what it takes to get the cheapest one to the same level, see what's still wrong with the most expensive one and then modify them using genuine parts for the expensive one and knockoff parts for the cheap one.

      That looked like such a good time!
      I used to own a 106 Rallye that was a right hoot to drive, and living in Europe meant parts availability was obviously better, and way cheaper.
      rev happy 1.6 liter, 103 horsepower, and only 860kg of car to lug around. It moved very well!
      We didn't get the 1.6 in the Swift here sadly, only the 1.3. The chassis is probably still solid, don't know how much else changes with the Sport version you've got there?

    The Peugbro turned Marty into a giggling track gremlin. Hunched over the wheel cackling as he locked up and four-wheel-drifted around corners to keep Moog at bay. Say what you want about either of these cars, that looked like a ridiculous amount of fun for both!

    Always loved the 206, shame you didn't get the GTI 180. Sports variant vs sports variant. So far it's been a bit unfair on the old pug, was very surprised to see how well it did against the swift considering it's just the pov base spec commuter version.

    The TU5JP4 is one of the better French 16-valve engines, on an armored cast iron block. Very amenable to modification. You can pull about ~150 horsepower out of it cheaply by changing the exhaust manifold, adding sharp camshafts with adjustable pulleys and an aluminum intake manifold from a Citroen C2 VTS, all topped off with tuning. Combined with the car's low weight, it makes for an incredibly fun driving experience :)

      Their Achilles heel (very appropriately) is the rear axle - the trailing arms pivot on needle bearings which rot away along with the stub that they mount on and the rear wheels develop a large amount of negative camber, sometimes so much that the tyres rub the inner arches! Entire rear axle replacement required every few years. There are entire companies that specialise in supply of refurbed axles. It's not a particularly expensive or difficult job to do the swap at least. Possibly in the Australian climate it's not so much of an issue.

Those 1.9 TDI engines make about 95~100kW standard but just with a basic tune it will do at least 120kW and with some reasonable cheap performance parts it will do well over 130kW... lots of potential for little money. It's easy to forget how much location plays in, as here in Norway it's kinda the opposite, the 206 is cheap and easy to find parts for, the Swift Sport isn't sold in Norway, as Suzuki Norway only sells AWD Suzukis, though some people did special order some, so there's like 6 Swift Sports in Norway in total, parts having to be special ordered in some cases, as they don't have FWD bits at the Suzuki dealerships.
    That said though, as a friend of mine used to work at a Suzuki dealership he owned one of the 6 Swift Sports in Norway, and test driving it both when stock, and when on coilovers and 18" OZ magnesium wheels, it is a car that is quite glued to the road, but their proportions feel strange, like the roof is super tall when stood next to one.
    Haven't driven a normal 206, but they were incredibly common on the road, to the point of there being 206 racing leagues.
    I did however get driving lessons in a 206CC as my grandmother used to have one, most I remember of that was how annoyed I got at not having low RPM torque, so exiting a roundabout in 2nd gear to go up a small hill, I ended up having to downshift into 1st, which I was not used to having to do at all.

    • @ferrumignis
      @ferrumignis Рік тому +5

      Even though the Swift Sport was available in the UK, parts are still expensive and there is much less aftermarket support compared to European brands. That also affects insurance, my Swift Sport insurance was nearly 50% higher than a newer, more valuable and more powerful Golf GTi. The Swift is far more fun to drive though.
