The events of Pitch black were the reason Ridick was called on the planet that happen to be under atack keeping the story going. Even the 3rd movie is connected to Pitch black since it traces the same events. You might need better research.

      Actually, there's an animated feature called Chronicles of Riddick: Dark Fury that covers some of the time between the events of Pitch Black and the beginning of Chronicles of Riddick. Without giving too many spoilers, it introduces the character of Toombs and provides some connective tissue that explains part of the later storyline of CoR. Excellent animation and voiced by all the same actors (Diesel, David, Chinlund, etc.) from the live-action features.

      Maybe because, as explained in the video, American audiences were largely unfamiliar with the original Mad Max and Mad Max 2 was originally entitled "The Road Warrior" when it first came out? Also the two films are very different from each other with Max and the post-apocalyptic setting being the only things they have in common.

    • @005AGIMA
      @005AGIMA 8 років тому +8

      Komic Klepto Interestingly, the original Mad Max was DUBBED over with American accents for the USA audience (and sadly that version was also used in the UK). Re timelines, the original trilogy has Mad Max 1 and 2 occurring post economical global collapse, but pre nuclear apocalypse. Only Thunderdome was post nuclear Apocalypse. However the timeline has changed now due to the comic book series, game, and Fury Road. But I guess they don't count in the context of this conversation. Great movies regardless. But yes, most of the world knew Road Warrior was a sequel if we're honest. The only reason some didn't was because #2 had a bigger budget and more hype. (and no apparent need to be dubbed over lol)

    Technically, Die Hard is a sequel to the 1968 Frank Sinatra film 'The Detective'. It was based on the first in a series of crime novels. Sinatra was too old to play the role by the time they got around to making it, so instead they changed the character in the script to John McClane. But it's still based on the same plot as the book's sequel.

      I already have. The trailer for it is like a cheap porn from the 90's or 80's. Trump is a cartoon character of a person. It's kind of disturbing to consider that he has risen to this level. Makes me worry for my own species.

    Changing Mad Max 2 to The Road Warrior was the best title change ever. The Road Warrior name deserves it's own award.

    Actually "My Summer Story" maintained the title "It Runs In The Family" until 2003 when another more popular movie of the same name came out. It officially was retitled "My Summer Story" in 2006 for it's DVD release. I even remember watching it on TV in 2001 on HBO, and they were still calling it by it's former name.

    Are they smoking their own mojo? 99.9% of these movies were, in fact, highly well known sequels. Apparently the only ones who did not know it was the staff of WatchMojo. Barely any of these movies "hid' their "sequelness." Army of Darkness began directly after Evil Dead 2? EVERYONE knew Two Jakes was a sequel to Chinatown. it was how the movie was advertised and every news outlet said it directly. Damn people, try harder to come up with these top tens. I mean put some actually effort into it.

      james howe Dude, they were advertised as sequels, called sequels, talked about being sequels. When Two Jakes was announced news was constantly going on about "hey they're making a sequel to Chinatown." I think some of the trailers might be on UA-cam, have a look. The premise was "movies that people didn't know where sequels." I know Road Warrior was a Mad Max sequel and I was a teenager when it came out. I knew because they said it directly. And it was actually called "Mad Max: The Road Warrior. Kinda of clue there. Just like Star Wars was just "Star Wars" before the prequels. Maybe two on this list were not obvious or stated sequels. The rest everyone know were sequals to the first or second movies. (I mean seriously, Chronicles of Riddick? They talked about it being the Pitch Black sequel from the moment the movie was announced.)

      How can 99,9% of the movies listed here be known sequels? The number of movies displayed here are 10 + a few honorable mentions. Are you saying that a part of a certain movie is not a known sequel or what? Because otherwise your claim that 99,9% of the movies here are know sequels would require

      Transitions to cartoon animation for sequels don't count-unless everyone was hit by an animation conversion ray,and that fact is part of the sequel's plot.As well as turning everyone back live for any sequels.Bullshit by any other name.

    It Runs in the Family (aka My Summer Story) is probably one of best underrated movie sequels ever. It’s based on the same story of the real “Ralphie,” and very similar in style and tone. I never understood that when I was younger but I loved it just the same. My pops told me it was a sequel when I first saw it and I guess I just didn’t get it at the time because the actors were different but even so it’s a great little flick and if you watch the Christmas Story every Christmas then you should give a watch

    I find it hard to believe that anyone who was interested enough to see any of these movies wouldn't know they were sequels, unless they were really young. I was 14 when The Color Of Money came out and knew it was a sequel to The Hustler without ever seeing the original film.

    The Riddick Franchise actually has more entries outside the movies media, that are really good an definitely worth a look.
    - TCoR: Dark Fury (2004) is an animated movie set between Pitch Black and TCoR.
    - TCoR: Escape from Butcher Bay + Assault on Dark Athena are video games that are prequels to the movie franchise, centered mostly around Riddick's escape from Butcher Bay and introducing the character of Johns
